Sadly I share experiences similar to others when it comes to the elusive highwayman Lee Taylor.

It seemed perfect timing that my then current accountant was becoming unsuitable for my business needs and so Lee Taylor seemed a sure bet with what he could offer me. He was introduced to me through Nexus Networking, another absolute scam of a business.

On initial checks, he had a fairly decent website with reference to his accountancy affiliations and claimed to be able to offer me all the services I required. He could deliver the speech to convince trust.

He promised monthly and quarterly catch-up sessions to discuss the books and forecasting for the business.
For over £100 per month, I got next to no service as promised...

Weeks went by where I had no contact, no replies to emails. Then the brown envelopes from HMRC in quick succession, almost daily! Like others, he fed the same excuses about the software not connecting and having a death in the family (how or if he has any family left at this point, who knows!)

Monthly CIS returns were not completed so I received monthly £100 penalty's from HMRC. CIS reports and payslips were also not sent to subcontractors for over a year.
VAT returns not completed on time or completely missing so cue the penalties from HMRC and penalty points on my account for failing to notify reports.
No bookkeeping software for accounting and notifying to HMRC. Another lie that he gave, so no records of bookkeeping, CIS reports and VAT reports. Everything was handed over to my new accountants in a rather basic excel document with more financial holes than a fishing net.
A few months into the absolute chaos he had caused, I started digging a little deeper and discovered that Lee had actually been struck off and removed from the IFA register in July 2024 and fined just under £13000 in costs for failing to keep to the rules. He still claims to be a member of the IFA. This means he has been falsely advertising and affiliating with them for nearly 2 years!
Because he was struck off the register, he had no accountant login for HMRC.
He coerced me into giving him access to my personal HMRC tax account with my login credentials, therefore compromising my security and personal information.
He claimed to have sent my last tax return (by post if you can believe that) when he actually hadn't. We received penalties for failing to submit the return and now are unable to register for Making Tax Digital. He claims this was sent by post 2 days before he sent me the docusign link to the return document.

On top of all this, he is still actively looking for new targets on LinkedIn, Facebook, and in person at local networking events.

Lee Taylor aka Pro Tax Accounting Ltd has single-handedly ruined my otherwise perfect relationship with HMRC, putting me in a seriously difficult situation with regards to penalties and debts.

After speaking with many current and ex clients of his, it is apparent that he is a compulsive liar, a known scam artist in the area, and lacks any morale desire to care about anyone than himself.

If you or anyone you know is currently using Pro Tax Accounting Ltd's services, I would strongly advise you to consider moving to a more professional team immediately!

Lee Taylor has blocked our company on WhatsApp, LinkedIn, and who knows where else thinking this and I will disappear. Unfortunately for him, that won't stop us getting back what we're owed - it's not what you know, it's who you know!

We are now in the process of taking legal action against Pro Tax Accounting Ltd for unpaid recompense for the penalties received and accounting fair charge of our time to rectify their failings.

I would advise people to AVOID this company at every cost!

Very Bad Service for nearly a Year:

There were errors with VAT under-calculating as well as over-calculating. There were problems with the payroll.
On receiving the information from my previous accountant, they resubmitted some of the payments that had already been submitted. This resulted in HMRC requesting the employee to pay more tax as the records were showing that she had earned a lot more money.
Within 11 months of joining them, I had to to move to another accountant.
I requested them to make corrections, they agreed but never updated and never picked my phones or responded to my email. My phone calls were not being answered.
Today I decided to use a different phone to call them, someone answered it! After explaining who I was, I was told the people in charge were either too busy or out of office.
I will appreciate any advice how to proceed to resolve these issues.

I'm not normally one to write a negative review, would rather just not use again and move on however, when it comes to business and peoples money, silence would only hinder rather than help.

I met Lee of ProTax Accounting through a networking group when I first became self employed - for the first few months Lee was incredibly helpful, however after a short time the contact became non-existent; the letters from HMRC starting to land at my door regarding failure to submit quarterly VAT returns, receiving 'estimated bills' from HMRC, my list of items on Xero to be reconciled were growing and in all honest, I don't have a clue how to do all of that.....but that's what my monthly payment to an Accountant is for, to pay for a service.

When checking on my Xero account late December/January, Lee had not even logged into my Xero since the early October the previous year. Yes I am naïve when it comes to being new in business but I know poor practice when I see it.

I wrote a severance of services email to Lee, which was never acknowledged and well over a month later I finally received the transfer of my Xero account from ProTax to me.....I don't know why I expected even an acknowledgement when the previous lack of communication should have told me everything I needed to know.

My advice is to not be distracted by the 'discounted' price per month - pay more for someone who is going to do what you pay them to do and you won't need to pay out for those HMRC fines.

Stay well clear. Caused nothing but problems and charged us for the privilege. Absolutely no professional integrity.
