Affordable MTD is HMRC-recognised software for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (MTD ITSA), built for sole traders and landlords who need to file quarterly updates and their final declaration without learning a full accounting system. The product covers self-employment income and UK property income, letting you enter transactions manually or import them from a spreadsheet, with AI-assisted categorisation to speed up the tedious part. Everything you submit goes straight to HMRC through the same MTD API used by every other approved provider, so you're never filing anything unofficial. Affordable MTD is free for the 2026-27 tax year, then £19.99 a year from April 2027, with no hidden charges and no long-term contract. Your card is only taken at your first submission, and you won't be charged until billing actually starts. It's built and run by a small UK-based team rather than a large team, which keeps the product focused: no invoicing, no payroll, no features you don't need for MTD compliance. That also means support replies come directly from someone who understands the product inside and out, not a ticketing queue. Affordable MTD is listed on GOV.UK's official software finder and holds HMRC production approval as part of Nesbitt Web Ltd. Made life much easier than expected.

The software is very easy to use and the support desk is proactive, quick to respond and helpful. I thought that this transition to the HMRC "Making Tax Digital for Income Tax" would be a real grind, but Affordable MTD seem to have made it pretty straight forward.

Easy to use

Free and easy to use in 2026. Next year it’s £20 which is still a bargain.

Affordable MTD made the process very…

Affordable MTD made the process very simple and easy to follow compared to the larger accounting offerings some of which were not really free and you only discovered this when you got into the process. Affordable WTD were upfront on the cost which was as they say quite affordable.
