Would give them zero stars if that was possible. Worst power company in NZ!! Cannot answer questions, are extremely unhelpful and utterly useless. Our power bill with these clowns has literally doubled in a one month timeframe. For 3 years we have paid approx 300-350 a month. Our power bill is now over 600 a month and powershop have no explanation as to where the power is going whatsoever. We don't use any new electrical items and still they have no answers. They don't care about loyalty or customers in the slightest.
Beware of powershop false advertising
Beware of all their advertising of cheaper power and highly rated customer service. We have changed power companies as we were getting ridiculously high power bills for low power users.
when I complained about the price the powershop customer service agent couldn’t care less and literally told me to look around for a cheaper company. Changed to mercury far cheaper and really friendly customer service.

Avoid this company at all costs
By far the worst power company we've dealt with. Not only were we getting ripped off, but the customer support is shocking and rude. I highly DO NOT recommend Powershop Australia. This is why we canceled our account but they are still proving to be difficult, charging us for a meter that was free when we had it installed almost 6 months prior, however, now want us to pay for it since we're canceling our service. They didn't even ask any questions when we first called to cancel our account, which goes to show how little they care about their customers. Do yourself a favour and avoid this company at all costs even if their prices appear affordable - you will get stung just as we have.

Be careful with this company and you might get some shoc . I ended up paying avarage $3 per kwh unit( this is absolutely true). I am a law user and they made me to pay lumpsump monthly charge in stead of per unit charge. So i now changed after just two months of being with them .

I advise anyone to talk to them about the problem what is happening with your own personal problem. I did i have never been so wonderfully supported. I am on a support plan with them a programme and i am on my way to meet up with a community support team to check the power efficiency and problems of my home with a plan to work on some smart ways that i can make my power work with me as a team member. Im thankful for powershop they really will care about you if you give them a chance i dont have a good customer history but have found explaining the details of what financial issue i am in helped me get support. I was also rewarded a $50 gift for working well with Powershop which is ace for me. Thank you Susan Thank PWS.
Total Scam Company - AVOID
Powershop has these special "Power Packs" that they say are discounted from normal power prices, which are the ones you would normally use to purchase power.
The problem is that, while they claim that they E-Mail you to warn you that your "power balance" is low, and that you need to purchase power packs - you NEVER get the opportunity, because they sneakily "Auto purchase" standard Power Packs, then charge you for them.
Completely pointless "service", utter liars - since I do NOT get warning E-Mails (Yeah and they can forget saying the usual cope of 'Check your Spam Folder' - I know how E-Mail works), and scammers.
You can't "unpurchase" auto purchased power packs and replace them with the discounted ones either - even if you haven't paid for them yet.
Customer service is non existent - Their staff have always been condescending and rude.
Currently looking for a new supplier.

Proactively emailed and advised refund into my bank in less than 24 hours - moving providers due to a bundle deal. Always found the pricing great if you get the special packs, thanks guys
Extremely poor customer service
Extremely poor customer service - among the worst I have ever experienced. Power costs are very high - don't believe the hype. They'll charge you even when you have left the property and after they have closed your account. They won't reply to emails at all. Then in their chat bot service, when you get to speak to a person, they lack clarity and empathy, and use a very passive aggressive and/or accusatory tone. I would never recommend or use Powershop ever again. Do yourself a favour and find better!!!
UPDATE: Since posting this review, the customer services team have closed my account, resolved the issue and given me a small refund. I still found the experience poor, however, and had I not spent the time to chase Powershop, the situation may have continued.
Difficult and hard to deal with.
difficult to deal with and super high bills. Im consistently making high payments (80 pw)!but its not enough, i’d need to pay more than my food budget every week, (150pw!!) instead of letting me continuously pay the same amount over the warm months when i dont rely on a heatpump to keep my kids warm.

Expensive and inconvenient
It’s easy to sign up but to close an account is a nightmare. Tried calling, sending an sms and a couple of emails to close.
Ended up having to pay so much extra for weeks after disconnection date.

Can't recommend this power company at all.
First you have to play their little games of buying power packs all the time, spread across the year, so it always looks like you are in arrears.
Secondly, I paid for my months power via online transfer (an option they offer) but they also charged my credit card and added a fee. When I contacted them asking them to credit this they said they couldn't, even though it was showing as pending on my statement.
Trying to contact someone immediately is impossible.

"Sweet as"
I had an issue that I needed to talk to the Powershop team about but I couldn't get through. I waited online for ages and called and waited. I tried again another day with no success. I emailed and waited a week for a response. In the end, I finally got through online and advised that I was leaving Powershop. The response I got - "sweet as"!

Fabricated bill
Disgusted with powershops customer service. I could not contact them. I switched to genisis energy. Powershop did not give me an opportunity to have my final meter read and trying to bill me with an estimate they have made up.
