Pextons is without doubt the best hardware store I've been to. I feel very lucky to have lived nearby them for several years and the staff have always been incredibly helpful and have gone above and beyond to help solve all kinds of problems in the past.

Pextons are my favourite Iron mongers .The staff are always very helpful and knowledgeable.Where else can you go when you have a chipboard door with a faulty hinge and where the hinge won’t hold because the raw plug keeps coming out. They had the solution , which is still working after two years . On another occasion, although they are not agricultural engineers , I had every confidence that they would fix my faulty Strimmer . Sure enough they made every attempt but could not fix the fault , as the faulty part was unobtainable from the manufacturers . They did not charge me for their efforts !

This is the story of DOG 🐶.
My little sister's first word was dog when she was 2, her dad bought her a push along dog from a car boot sale. He was a bit bashed up but mum re-stuffed him as needed and gave him a new mouth made of felt, complete with a new tongue sticking out. My sister named him DOG.
He was very loved but children grow, he was retired to a store cupboard. Years later during 'lockdowns' he came out of retirement and was placed in the living room. Cupboard contents were sorted but DOG remained, it was cheerful to have him around. He was loved and petted by a whole new generation of children, unfortunately at some point he suffered a injury to his left front wheel. The stud was found quickly but the washer that secured it had vanished. Pextons was first port of call - mum tried to explain/describe it but to no avail. She had me carry DOG to Pextons, he was laid on the work top, measurements were taken, different things tried. The right part was found and hammered into place, he charged me 25p for the washer. Mum says DOG is recovered, and I see he is back to jumping on a chair when she hoovers 😊.

An absolute gem of a local hardware shop. Pexton's has everything you didn't remember that you needed and they will order items in if they don't stock them. Staff are so friendly and will go out of their way to help - for example, my son's bike saddle had a problem which led to some tears as we were all set to take it for its first spin but we popped into Pexton's to see about a screw and they fixed it for him there are then. They will go above and beyond all the time for their customers. A really important part of the Bishy road community.

We love Pextons! They are always so happy to help and seem to be able to solve any problem. Todd was very friendly and helpful today. Thank you!

Possibly the best all round hardware shop in the UK.
Every time I visit I get what I need. You get a great welcome and the staff are so helpful.
I always visit whenever I am nearby.

Fabulous. They have everything you could need and more. They are all so welcoming, friendly and knowledgable. And they’re very competitively priced. They’ve sharpened knives, cut keys, replaced watch battery etc, etc for me and I cannot fault them. I’ve only once not been able to buy what I went for but they suggested a perfectly acceptable alternative. I love this store and all of the staff. They are all so friendly, helpful and lovely. It’s a proper ‘Arkwright Open All Hours’ shop if you’re old enough to remember that! I cannot recommend too highly.

Great friendly service. They just cut straight to fixing the problem. Huge selection of all that stuff you need too and great prices.

I shop in Pextons on a regular basis as they’re always my “go to” choice of hardware store in York. Today, as usual, the staff were very friendly and helpful with fixing a particular problem I had, with some kitchen scales I’d bought at a big supermarket and had been unable to make work.

Put lots of effort in to sort my car key. Brilliant shop with lovely staff. Thank you so much

A wonderful local store - staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. I especially recommend the knife sharpening services, they take very good care of the blades!
