Some of the worst customer support I have ever had
All I wanted to do was register my business name, but it took my money and then took me to a page to sign up for an RBC Business bank account that you cannot skip!! Can't get a hold of anyone, cant cancel my registration unless I open the account. What if I already have a business account elsewhere?? Now this is keeping me from doing other things with my business cause I can't complete my registration and get my registration number
Seems like a cash grab referral service. It was helpful when I didn't know what I was doing, but it didn't do enough to clarify the differences between registration types, and their tax implications. So overall, not a great service and anything that seems too good to be true probably is.
OWNR robbed me. I set up a sole proprietorship through them and pursued the deal where they won't charge you the $49 OWNR fee if you open an RBC bank account. A week after signing up for OWNR, I had to reach out for them to remember to schedule my RBC appointment. After finally getting an appointment and setting up my account, I assumed everything was settled.
Now, 2 months later, I see a charge in my account for $49 even though I met all their terms. I reached out over email giving them all the details about the business and explaining how the charge is unjustified. Jas, the OWNR support worker I was assigned to, replied once saying they'd "look into it," then disappeared. No follow-up, no resolution.
OWNR is a subsidiary of RBC. Verifying I opened the account should have been easy, and it should have been done before charging me at all. But instead of honoring the promotion, they ignored the proof and charged me anyway.
I’d hoped to reach out to another support worker at OWNR, but they don’t have that option. I even sacrificed personal resources (gas money and time) to go to RBC and obtain printed confirmation that the account was opened. Clearly, following their conditions and having proof isn’t enough for them to issue my refund.
Their customer service was completely unresponsive until I left a negative review on Google. Only after that did I finally receive a reply. And instead of issuing the refund, they added new requirements that were never mentioned in the original offer. After I proved I opened the account, they suddenly said I had to keep it open for a full year, which was not clearly disclosed when I signed up. Then they added another condition, saying I’d only get a refund if I provided proof I dissolved the business.
I had to dispute the charge with my bank because OWNR refused to honor their own terms. Don’t expect to hear back from them after they take your money.
I've been with Ownr since their early days (before RBC acquired them). I am on their legacy plan, still it's not cheap, $348 + HST a year. I have no complaint about their platform and interface, it's very user friendly.
However, over the years, their service has become more and more expensive. Now to be able to make Address change for example, you would have to use their "Managed Corporation" plan which is $599 per year, which should be a one time fee, not an extra $300 you would have to pay.
Another thing is that they are also cutting back on customer service, now without the $599 per year "Managed" plan, you can only contact support via email with slower response. You used to be able to chat with their CS with a reasonable quick response.
But for now I am stuck with them. We need some competition here!
Ownr is not trustworthy, they have a relationship with RBC and they try to force you to work with RBC, charging you $49 if you don’t.
When I signed my business up with owner, I emailed Owner and specifically told them I didn’t want to have anything to do with RBC and that I didn’t want to be charged $49 or be forced into a relationship with RBC. At that time I was told everything was fine and I would be refunded the $49 no problem.
I later get an alert on my credit report saying that someone has made an inquiry on my credit report. It was RBC checking my credit report and setting up an appointment to open a business bank account. The credit inquiry brought my credit score down 12 points. This was after I had already been very explicit that I did not want to work with RBC.
I tried to cancel the appointment. There was no phone number for me to call to cancel. I had to show up to the appointment on the day and let them know that I was not interested in working with them and didn’t appreciate them making a credit inquiry without permission.
Six months later, my credit card has just been charged $49 by owner. When I reached out to customer service at Ownr, they said it’s because I failed to live up to my agreement with RBC. I didn’t enter into an agreement with RBC. Luckily I have kept all my emails and will take this as far as I need to go. Be very careful working with this company.
Ownr claimed helping business register but at the end it has no guidance for international clients to fill the form and even when we paid and would like to amend the form, the CS does not allow us to adjust the form and even want to scam extra money. They are so afraid of others broadcasting their CS service quality because they sucks, the staff Marvene gives no reason to stop your service and ban the chat instantly so u cannot get the evidence (they think) , they scammed international clients money and no body from ownr will explain or help you. Top avoid choice for foreigners or even local want to set up business which they also have commission we think they are with RBC but there’s still no point of misguiding us and collect extra money. Their attitude is like they are the God, we used to think Canada is humble and peaceful CS but this Ownr Canada companies setup really give ptsd to us as new comers in Canada.
Guys, red flag for this one if u think there are anyone to follow up with your documentation, nope. They dun care.
We have all the evidence, marvene or Josh, can be the same one that rude to us. There is right for us to do broadcast as content business founders but there’s no way you guys stop everything without reason and act like scamming us. We record as we met so many companies scamming people, the culture is here and if you did nth you dun need to afraid , it’s a sign you guys got issues and dun let public to discover, not a startup vibe but a traditional unprofessional few man band in the company, Ownr, dun lie or rude to your customers, collect extra money or scamming us won’t make u grow. Becareful and we are reporting scam issues to the government too!
