Origin Windows and Doors for New Build Home

We were recommended Origin Windows and Doors by our architect for our new build SIP home in South London. We used HBD systems in St Alban’s as the company to source all our windows, doors and sliding doors through. HBD have been involved in our project for the last two years and have been outstanding throughout this time.
Our first meeting was with at their showroom in St Albans. We were really impressed with the Origin products on offer and the knowledge of the sales team regarding Origin. We have a lot of glass and sliding doors in the property so we needed a cost effective product that didn’t blow the budget. We opted for Origin Windows, doors & Sliding Doors throughout and we have been very happy with the product, a great qualtiy product that will last a long time.

As with any project of this size there was a couple of small issues that required resolving after the main fitting. Origin was very prompt to send a team round to take care of it. We found that they really do care about their after sales customer service and support. We really felt that they had our best interest at heart, and only signed the project off when we were 110% happy with every single window and door.
I wouldn’t have any hesitation in recommending any Origin product to future customers.

Decent enough product but terrible customer service and communication and consistently lying re. delayed delivery which it turns out, is the norm, so don’t trust any scheduling they give you.

We have used Origin in the past for our…

We have used Origin in the past for our original bi-fold doors & double front door. The quality and design gave us the re-assurance to use them for our new extension window & bi-fold doors again. The installers HBD Systems were very good although their communication could be improved as they were slow to inform me of a re-schedule install date. We did have an issue with marks on all three glass panels for the doors but this was resolved quickly without fuss. My only negative comment would be that the gaskets used around the bi-fold doors seem to damage very easily, these should be made a little tougher.

Bifold repair

Ryan Scott came out after one of our hinges broke. We contacted where we purchased the bifolds and after a while they arranged the replacement. Ryan was very thorough and noticed some other issues that we were not aware off. Ryan has submitted a report and we hope to have the other issues sorted soon.

Top Tier Quality

We can't even begin to describe just how much Origin's beautiful aluminium products have transformed the look of our home.
First and foremost, the quality of the product is outstanding. The bifold doors and windows operate smoothly and effortlessly, whilst also looking fantastic aesthetically. The positive comments from neighbours and visitors only confirm our thoughts that we could not have picked a better option.

Bifolding doors - exceptional safety, customer care and aesthetics

We've had our Origin bifolding doors for about 10 years now and absolutely LOVE them - and the people who work there.

We were particularly attracted to Origin's bifolding doors, because they're designed to be completely safe for not trapping kids' fingers in them.

The original installation was done by fitters who didn't know the correct way to install them and it caused lots of issues. (The fitter we were going to use went bust and we had to find someone else quickly).

Right from my very first communication with Billy at Origin, where I explained our problems, Origin's own team of expert fitters came and did an amazing job of resolving all of the numerous issues caused by the original fitters.

A few years on, our then-new extension that the doors are fitted in, had settled/moved and, as a result, the doors needed adjustment. Like the previous Origin team, Tommy and Chris have just been and done an amazing job of getting everything running smoothly again, in just one short visit.

The customer care I've had from Billy, every time I've been in communication with him, has been exceptional. Their fitters are superb and everyone I've ever spoken to at their HQ have also been fantastic.

At some point in the next few years, we'll probably move home and will definitely have Origin doors again in our next house if they're not already fitted, on account of their safety, aesthetics, smooth running and customer service.

Huge thanks to everyone there! Billy especially, thanks a million for always reallly looking after us, which we really do appreciate.

Origin Doors, interior revelation.

I was recently undertook an interior renovation and was taken with the new Origin Soho range. The OI30 looked like a great option and I approached a local installer - Goldseal to undertake the project. I cannot speak highly enough of both Goldseal and the Origin product. Both were exceptional. The transformation of my home was amazing, better than I was expecting and Gary and his team were very professional.

Most of the windows were of good…

Most of the windows were of good quality however, two large windows were delivered without drainage holes (despite these windows being coupled to casements that had drainage points installed and are therefore clearly external windows). Origin are unwilling to rectify this issue even though I have offered to take the windows to their factory. They have sent instructions on how to install drainage points myself, which pretty much states "drill hole in the frame". No dimensions, no other guidance.
If you want any sort of aftercare, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Get Schuco windows instead.

We are sorry to hear you are disappointed with your Origin window and the missing drainage holes.

Having looked into this it does appear that unfortunately, the order placed with Origin did not request drainage on that particular window. Whist we would like to help in this situation, once a window is manufactured it is not possible to then put the unit back through the manufacturing process within our factory.

We have provided detailed information and guidance on how to resolve this on-site. However, if you do not feel comfortable to make this adjustment, you could speak with the trade partner who you purchased through and ask for their assistance.

Alternatively, we can offer details of a remedial company who may be able to help or we can arrange a chargeable call out for you.

Please let our enquiry team know if you require us to do this.

Long standing satisfied Customer but ......

Long standing Customer, the whole house has Origin windows & bifolds. As others have found , your installer ( fitters) will make or break the quality of the install. The final door recently fitted is a single door with lower panel. A mobility threshold is fitted. The issue with the design (note not the installation) is that rain water collects on the square lipped bottom rail. (as it does on the bifold doors (same design)) . Surface tension causes this to puddle. As the door is opened (inward) the opening vibration breaks the surface tension and the water runs down the face of the bottom rail and drips off on the interior floor. Not an issue with open outward doors. A camber to the top angle of this bottom rail would easily encourage the water to run off and not pool. Madness for a premium product, makes you wonder whether the designers have the product fitted to their own houses.

Absolutely disgraceful company

Absolutely disgraceful company. Stay well away. Product looks nice, but is not that good, overpriced, and suffers from being in the hands of incompetents. Origin insist that you use their network of installers. The ones they told us to use did not do a very good job at the time, but have since, by responding to a Trustpilot review, are seeking to make amends.
When I thought that Origin would want to know what had gone wrong, I was rudely dismissed at the very first port of call.
You would think that a supposed quality supplier would be highly concerned if their product was being poorly installed, causing loss and damage, that the follow up customer service was even worse, with the overall experience for their brand so awful, to be indescribable. Would they be interested? No. Couldn't care less.
Always amuses me when brands make such a show of responding on here, the public face, but in the background, simply sneer at unsuspecting members of the public, while taking their money.
I started receiving their ads on my Facebook page. When I started to leave honest feedback, they simply blocked me. What does that tell you about a brand?
When I then wrote to them, I was simply rudely dismissed and my complaints ignored. That mindset and attitude HAS to come from the top.
Stay away. Your hard earned money is better spent elsewhere.

Addition to respond to the below:
This has got to be the most cynical reply by any company in the entirety of Trustpilot. You've put more effort into this, than actually resolving the issue.

Not only is it full of lies, you contradict yourselves. You say that you take complaints very seriously, then say you do not get involved, then seem to infer that you are responsible for resolving this?

I am shaking my head in disbelief at your utter lies. I wanted to bring the matter to your attention as I felt that your intervention could help to move matters along. Why was it not resolved back in 2019 then?

You literally did nothing except to tell me to go away, that you weren't interested, and that it had nothing to do with you. Shall we find somewhere to post up the emails? All can therefore read and make up their own minds.

Why did you block me from your social media? I didn't break any rules, except all that you allow on there is praise, isn't it? Unblock me and we can discuss it on there.

You really should stop digging.

We are sorry to hear you are having problems with your Origin purchase, it is always disappointing to hear a project has not gone as planned. Rest assured Origin does take seriously any formal complaints that are raised with us, as we did when you last contacted us in 2019.

However, as all partners work independently and are not owned by Origin I’m sure you will understand that we cannot become involved in disputes between them and their clients, nor can we assist with services not provided by Origin. For this reason, Origin would refer the homeowner back to the original installer for them to assess the situation and guide Origin as to how best we can support them to find an amicable resolution.

Our records show that when you last contacted us we did just that and worked with your supplier to assist them as needed at that stage, the outcome of which was, we believe, all issues were resolved at that time. We can also see from your updated review above that the partner has been in contact with you regarding your current concerns and we are sure if they require further assistance from Origin they will let us know, at which point we will of course provide the support they deem necessary and appropriate for Origin to give.

Bifold nightmare

We had bifold doors fitted 6 years ago by Ekco doors in Edinburgh who were introduced to us by Origin. All was well at first but very quickly we had condensation develop on the inside of the threshold and issues with the foam gaskets shrinking. This was reported to the fitters who replaced the gaskets and blamed that on the condensation. Since then I've had the gaskets changed annually as they keep shrinking and I've had numerous excuses for the condensation. They refitted the doors in February but it's made no difference, in fact if anything it's worse. Now the installer has refused to come back unless I pay £250 and have blanked every effort I have made to get a copy of the fitting warranty. I have foam gaskets that were supplied under warranty but the installer refuses to fit them unless I pay £250 which won't be happening. Origin for their part only want to pass the blame to the installer and take absolutely no responsibility for anything apart from manufacturing defects despite the fact they introduce you to the installer. I sent them a detailed email listing the problems I'm experiencing but it's been ignored. Do yourself a big favour and go elsewhere. Find a company that actually takes responsibility for their installers instead of ignoring things.

Origin is sorry to hear that you are experiencing on-going issues with the Q-lon for your bi-fold door.
We are in receipt of your mail, where you kindly included a response from the manufacture of the Q-lon and they offered you a potential cause being installation or overstretching. As you are aware Origin do not provide installation services, we work through a network of independent trade partners who provide their own warranty for install work and glass supply.

It is also noted in your mail that Origin have attend your property twice which demonstrates that we do take ownership of issues when our support is required.

With regards to the condensation, this can be caused by several reasons including air circulation, building fabric and use of the room. As Origin are not involved in the project directly it would be inappropriate for us to comment on the reason or cause.

Origin prides itself in working closely with our trade partners to provide support and guidance as and when requested by them and we will continue to do so in your situation should the partner require it.
As a goodwill gesture, we are more than happy to send replacement Q-lon directly to you, even though we believe the product itself is not at fault, and we are happy to work with any builder or installer you wish to use for remedial works which will not impact your warranty with Origin.

Nice product but really poor care when things go wrong

I am astonished by some of the good stories on here as I have found the service incredibly poor. The product is fine but my lock has jammed and they won't even let me speak to someone who will help. Shocking.

Excellent customer support from Louise.

I recently gave a poor review, which at the time I felt justified. I was getting to my wits end trying to resolve two problems with my bi-fold doors, namely faulty/broken handles and a damaged seal (which incidentally was NOT the fault of origin-global),and getting nowhere fast. This was until Louise, Head of Sales Operations stepped in and took to resolving my door problems. This morning the parts arrived as promised for me to rectify my bi-folds. I can now get on with making them as good as the day they were fitted.
A big Thank You to Louise for her help with this matter.

Dear Neil,

We are sorry to hear of the issues you are having with your Origin doors. Origin always honours its warranty agreement for failed hardware due to manufactured defects. As explained when you contacted us, we are the manufacture of frames and hardware only and we are not able to help with install or service requirements, which includes remedial work. From what we understand in your e-mail & phone call you mentioned that your installer has moved out of the area and is unable to help. We therefore supplied you with 3 alternative companies who carry out remedial work as it is rare that a handle would fail without there potentially being an underlying issue, usually driven by the install and requiring some adjustments to the door set to avoid a reoccurring issue.

We are not aware of who the supplier is you mention and therefore cannot comment on their trading practices, we are however surprised they didn’t provide the costs prior to you confirming the order with them. Regardless of this, Origin is more than happy to work with any installer to provide parts claimed under warranty – as is what happened with the gentlemen with the hinge you noted. COVID period aside, (like a lot of companies we were closed) we are happy to provide validated warranty claims to any installer if the claim procedure is followed, which in your case it was not. That said we are happy to send you a replacement handle but require more details to do so and we will respond directly to you via your e-mail to gain these.

If you are reading this and wondering about Origin's customer service, let me explain. The building company who fitted my bi-fold doors did not register the product with Origin, nor did they inform Origin that it was to be set in a marine environment. (A marine environment requires a different salt-resistant coating, which Origin would have supplied.) Several years later, I contacted Origin about a rusty hinge and other parts. Origin customer service not only replaced the rusty parts free of charge, but also replaced the parts incorrectly fitted by the builder. If that's not superb customer service, I don't know what is.
