Took Napthens Southport 7 months to complete the purchase of our house.
Initially months passed by without any progress, despite my chasing. Claims they had been emailing and phoning the sellers solicitors everyday to no avail.
I figured I'd call the sellers solicitor myself, it took one phone call from me to realise they had closed down.
This meant we missed our first completion deadline.
Got a 2 month extension from the lender, only to miss this one also.
Napthens informed us everything was ready to complete. Except, one day before completion it turns out the ID on vendors side hadn't been completed. Granted this wasn't down to Napthens to sort, but we clearly weren't ready to complete.
Fortunately though, another extension had already been arranged - prior to me receiving the news about the ID ???
No urgency, No accountability, No apology. Just excuses trying to diminish their responsibility.
I genuinely feel I've spent £000's for paper gathering admin work, instead of a proactive solicitor working with my best interests at heart..

Go with a smaller independent solicitor, I'm sure you'll get a more personal experience who listen and more importantly act.

I recently reached out to Napthens solicitors to assist with the purchase of a property. From the conveyance quotes I was provided, the only job they had carried out was my ID checks. Then, I asked the conveyor not to carry out any further works because of a problem with the valuation of the property. After I changed my mind about purchasing the property I was sent a bill of £204 for searches (with water, drainage, flood risk and local authority listed on the bill) which I had clearly asked the conveyor not to carry out. When I queried it, she changed her mind and told me the bill was not for the searches but for the time spent corresponding with me and the estate agents. I called several times for clarifications but my calls was directed to the answering machine.

No one told me I will be charged on an hourly basis especially when I had not yet signed a contract.

I appreciate we have had 3 calls but paying almost 20 % of my quote when only ID checks have been carried out is an absolute rip off.

The most annoying part is how fast they switched from being nice to ignoring my calls.

An important lesson I have learnt from this experience is to be wary of solicitors recommended by estates agents. This is a story for another day

My case was long and challenging.

I first met Helen Lucking (Head of Family Law) in January 2020. A very knowledgeable and experienced solicitor, most understanding of my situation. She gave me the confidence boost I needed, as we embarked on Divorce proceedings. However, Covid’19 played a huge part in delaying the process. And in mid 2021, unfortunately my husband passed away before the divorce was completed.

I then found myself in semi limbo, until Helen suggested I seek advice from Nicola Turner, Senior Associate in Napthens Litigation team. Also Emma Andersen her colleague, who I first met during my divorce.

I can’t speak highly enough of their tact and skill in handling my Litigation case. Nicola is decisive yet encouraging and we moved forward to successfully secure and achieve a positive outcome.
