I found Maiko-sensei through another glowing review from another student! I was looking at finding a tutor for Japanese when I moved to London for my studies. Maiko-sensei was the best teacher I’ve had! Since I first started with her, I have been with her for around 1.5years!

She always makes time for conversations in Japanese and teaches you based on your speed and goals! I really enjoy our lessons together and she makes it really easy to understand the learnings and grammar through her slides and conversations.

For nearly two years, I've been studying with Maiko. I had previously spent several years in classroom settings, gaining a fair grasp of grammar and vocabulary, yet I lacked confidence in speaking and listening. I expressed to Maiko that I wanted to focus on these areas, and she tailored our lessons accordingly. Our sessions are filled with conversations in Japanese, and Maiko patiently navigates through my hesitant speech. She also pinpoints grammar aspects that require my attention and practice. Thanks to her support, my confidence in speaking Japanese is steadily growing.

Maiko is an outstanding Japanese tutor. She worked with my 11/12 year old son for the better part of the year working up to his exchange trip to Japan. He made clear progress and enjoyed himself along the way. Maiko is confident, kind, fun, and supremely organised. Highly recommend for any child or adult lessons.

Maiko was a great tutor and took me from zero Japanese to ordering food and drinks, using the subway and understanding etiquette before my trip to Tokyo/Hokkaido.

I can’t recommend taking a few lessons before your first trip enough, it literally opens doors if you can respond to ‘How many are you?’ with more than a blank stare!

I have been learning with Maiko for about 2 years. I had already done several years of class learning so had a reasonable knowledge of grammar and vocabulary but zero confidence in speaking and listening. I told Maiko this was what I wanted to concentrate on so this is what we have done. My lessons are lots of chatting in Japanese and Maiko is very patient with my stumbling language. She also identifies points of grammar I need to revise it practice. With her help my confidence in speaking Japanese continues to improve.

Maiko is truly an amazing tutor! The personal touch and well-structured lessons are incredibly engaging. My partner and I have been learning for over a year and we have loved every lesson. We started learning to help us on our trip in Japan, and Maiko went the extra mile and gave us recommendations, tips and tricks for while we were out there. We cannot thank Maiko enough for all that she has done, and we look forward to the lessons each week!

I have had a really good experience with Maiko-sensei. After learning Japanese for many years, I have reached an advanced level, and so what we have focused on in our classes over the last year is high-level conversation around current affairs etc. Maiko-sensei has adapted her normal teaching approach to accommodate this and diligently prepares materials and thoughts for our discussions. And, most important of all, she brings real energy and fun to the classes.

After visiting Japan yearly to see family for over 15 years, I decided it was finally time to learn Japanese properly. I’m now one year into my journey, and I’m so happy with my progress. Maiko is an amazing sensei and I really enjoy my lessons. Highly recommend!

I've been having lessons with Maiko for about 18 months. I had learned Japanese for several years previously but was feeling the need to raise my game. That has certainly happened. Maiko keeps me moving at just the right pace and sets exactly the right amount of homework (and marks it really quickly!). During the lessons we chat about anything and everything and she's extremely patient with me when I stumble. In other words, Maiko has succeeded in understanding my goals and tailoring the lessons to be exactly what I need. My skills and confidence have grown hugely. My partner and I had several lessons with Maiko to prepare for a holiday to Japan. Maiko was an enthusiastic and friendly tutor who helped us by designing a curriculum, and put together materials about greeting people, travel, food, and Japanese interest. Maiko taught us key phrases and ideas from each section, and answered any questions we had about grammar and usage. Our sessions were very enjoyable and this was really useful for our trip.
