My email was hacked. My Microsoft account was linked to my email, so the hacker used my email to change the password, then logged in and changed the email.
I filled out the form for a hacked account, I had proof of purchase for both Xbox and PC, they had my phone number which was linked to the account, none of this mattered to them.
The 'person' 'responding' to my form and subsequent emails didnt acknowledge a single email sent, completely ignored everything then turned around and said essentially 'oh we cannot prove its your account even though there is suspicious activity so we are going to keep it in limbo permemantly'. All they had to do was revert the email on the account back to the email that the account had been under for THE PAST TEN YEARS. The hacker changing the email was the first time the email had been changed ever. I mean come on.
They told me I would just have to repurchase everything, which, firstly indicates they 100% no it is my account as they know i made the purchases on the account, as again I had proof of every purchase made on the account, and secondly is incredibly scammy, 'oh we know you bought this but we are going to take it away because we want you to pay for it again'. I am not wealthy, I cannot repurchase a library of games collected over a decade.
Microsoft is practically shoving piracy down people's throats at this point as its the only viable option for games. Its a shame I cant pirate my ten years worth of word documents and powerpoints etc that Microsoft tossed in the fire.

Seriously regret signing up for Exchange Online

Seriously regret signing up for Exchange Online (Plan 1). My setup failed with an error when I tried to attach my company domain to the email service. This was due to a very old plan that was stuck in the system and impossible to cancel, even by the support staff (apparently because it was so old). To cut a long story short, if something goes wrong, expect many many hours dealing with support staff with strong, incomprehensible accents, phone dropouts, constant repeating of details etc etc. They even charged me twice because they had set the auto renew option by default (without my consent) and renewed it a year later. There is also zero hope of getting your money back even when it is a clear case of a service provider failing to provide a service. It is like arguing with a brick wall. My advice is to avoid all Microsoft subcriptions because if things go wrong, you will probably lose days of you life and you will never get your money back, however bad the service.

Two stunts pulled by Microsoft.

In 2023 Microsoft pulled a stunt were they lowered the capacity for storage on email accounts. I'd had an account for 25 years. This was done by lowering the capacity for attachments from 20Gb to 5GB. Effectively making the storage 5GB for everything. If over the 5GB, either you deleted thousands of emails which was impossible for a number of reasons, or paid for the account, or Microsoft locked the account.

Having paid for the account for a couple of years to unlock it, Microsoft them pull the next stunt. They won't allow the exporting of emails in one file as they used to. A service which was included when I started to pay. You now have to install 365 and pay £100 per year to do that. There is not free trial for those who already pay.

On both these problems, I have spent years attempting to sort this out. Previously on the phone with the first issue, they clearly thought it was amusing.

Extortion Racket

I am so angry, I have lost all respect for Microsoft, who are behaving like criminal extortioners.

A recent PC repair meant having to replace the motherboard and CPU. When I restarted my PC I was not surprised to see that Microsoft had detected the changes and wants me to reactivate Windows.

I have a genuine Windows licence which, together with my PC, is linked to my Microsoft account.

I expected to simply hit 'Activate Now' but that didn't work, nor did any of the suggested troubleshooting.

My genuine licence is a retail copy of Windows 7 Home which has been legitimately upgraded through Windows 10 and then to Windows 11. I suspect that Microsoft have screwed up their database when the upgrade to Windows 11 was done because they are now declaring that I don't have a valid licence.

There is no longer any way to talk to Microsoft, certainly not to a human on the phone, not even to a stupid AI BOT on chat.

I have followed all the troubleshooting suggestions but none of the work.

In short, the criminal extortioners at Microsoft only suggestion is to disregard the fact that I have a genuine licence and buy a new one from them for £119.

Pure criminal, plain and simple.

I have just got off two chats with Microsoft Technical Support and they both confirmed that Microsoft absolutely are running an extortion racket. They stated that my Genuine Retail Licence can only be used to activate Windows 11 once. If subsequently, Microsoft demand a reactivation because of a hardware repair then my licence will not be accepted. They stated that in this case I must give them £119 for a new Windows 11 licence.

To be clear, this is a Microsoft issue, for whatever reason, they have failed to properly upgrade my Windows 7 retail licence to a Windows 11 licence and expect me to give them £119 to cover for their problem.

This is truly Mafa-level behaviour.

And just when you think they couldn’t stoop any lower, this happens. I have just been speaking to customer service on the phone. She too confirmed the extortion racket that they operate and that my only way forward was to buy another Windows 1 licence and then she dropped this

“When you buy Windows 11, buy it directly from Microsoft because then we will be able to support you. If you buy from a different company then Microsoft won’t be able to provide any support”.

That must be illegal?

She also refused to give us a mailing address for Customer Service in the UK and she deliberately cut the call before the feedback questionnaire could kick in at the end.

Our business has been locked out of our Microsoft 365 tenant for days due to an MFA issue. I am the only global admin, yet the automated support system incorrectly says I’m not an admin and hangs up.

Every UK support number disconnects instantly. No callbacks. No human contact.

We have lost money, lost productivity, and our customer service rating has dropped to zero because we cannot access our own Microsoft 365 environment.

This is unacceptable for a paid business service. Microsoft urgently needs to fix its support systems.

Bought MSFS 2024 to help with my learning. It does not appear to have any instructions? What I can glean from Google often does not work on my MS Surface Pro desktop. It takes ages to load. When you do get in you just appear as a plane over open ocean that just crashes. Really lost here and disappointed I spent so much money on something that is of no use.

Microsoft Office 0x0 activation error — the software was eventually fixed, the support wasn't

I have a legitimate Office Home & Student 2021 licence and had been using Office successfully on my Mac.

Then Excel suddenly required activation and produced the dreaded: “Unknown error 0x0.”

I followed Microsoft's suggested procedures, but they did not resolve the problem. Worse, Microsoft's own AutoUpdate subsequently failed repeatedly, saying that update packages could not be downloaded.

What I found particularly unacceptable was the lack of an effective route to human assistance. I could not get someone at Microsoft to take ownership of the problem and guide me through it.

Eventually, after a long and complicated process, I managed to install a compatible Office version manually. Excel then accepted my Microsoft account, activated successfully and allowed me to open, edit, save and reopen my Excel files.

So the problem was solvable.

That is exactly what makes the support experience so frustrating.

I am not criticising Microsoft simply because software developed a fault. Software faults happen. I am criticising Microsoft because a legitimate paying customer experiencing a known activation problem was left to struggle through an ineffective support process rather than being given a clear route to a solution.

The contrast with Apple Support was striking. My experience with Apple has been that human support is accessible, patient and practical, with staff able to guide me through problems on the Mac. My experience with Microsoft was the opposite.
Microsoft makes excellent software. But excellent software also requires excellent customer support when it stops working.

The product was eventually fixed. The customer-support experience was not.

I hope Microsoft takes this criticism seriously, particularly because many other Mac users appear to have experienced the same 0x0 activation problem.

Microsoft Makes It Easier to Charge You Than to Help You

I've been a gamer for over 20 years. In all that time, I've dealt with support from countless companies. I can honestly say that Microsoft has consistently been one of the hardest companies to get support from.

I've only had to contact Microsoft once or twice over the years, but every single time it's been the same experience—going round in circles, being sent to pages that don't help, and struggling just to find a way to speak to a real person. By the end of it, it feels like you need psychiatric help more than technical support.

This time was no different. I only recently realised I'd been paying for PC Game Pass every month for around six months. I haven't actually used the service for about a year, so I wanted to ask about a refund.

Instead, I was sent to a refund page that only deals with game purchases, which told me I had nothing eligible to refund. There was no clear way to deal with subscription charges or speak to someone who could actually help.

Microsoft is one of the biggest technology companies in the world. There is no reason why paying customers should have to fight through a maze just to get support for a recurring subscription.

I'm asking Microsoft to review my account activity, see that I haven't been using Game Pass, and consider refunding the unused subscription charges.

More importantly, please fix this support system. It shouldn't feel like a test of endurance just to get help.
