If I could give Metro Bank no stars I would

If I could give no stars I would.
On June 12th 2021 we were scammed through Google Pay, something people should be aware of, Google will not refund and will not take responsibility for the unauthorised Google payment.
Metro bank sent us an SMS warning that suspicious activity had been detected on our bank account. In effect GPay were drawing our funds to pay an unauthorised transaction from our Metro Bank account. Guess what happened!!!! you wouldn't believe it, Metro Bank after advising us of the suspicious activity went ahead and paid Google allocating the payment to pending, never to be seen again.
After many weeks and correspondence, trying to recover the funds from the unauthorised transaction Metro Bank have washed their hands of the problem with no explanation.
They don't deserve to be a bona fide bank.
Metro branches look immaculate but underneath the glitz, we find it difficult to understand how Metro Bank can operate in the way they do without some recourse to its customer base.

Amazing Service

I would like to show my appreciation to Kulvinder Dhanda and Luke Bicknell from the Solihull Branch , they have excelled in their customer service skills, by opening a new business account for my company. The service has been a 5 star rating, and i would highly recommend them both . Fantastic Service and Prompt delivery.

Still no Proper Response to complaint in March re lack of action in December

I am still waiting for a reply re what i have to do to get a written reply to my many emails following up on my complaint in March????????
Metro failed to act on receipt of my ISA transfer form in Dec 2020 until after many chase up calla I got my funds end Feb. Missing out on about £7k profit I had made in same period on my existing ISA Stocks and Shares account in same period with IG.
My complaints have never been properly addressed and my complaints re the complaint handling process got nowhere.
I have many emails to show that Metrobank has shown absolutely no care for being a people bank in my case and I advise everyone not to touch Metrobank with a bargepole. Yours in disgust Susan Reed

PRA - do your job and shut down Metro Bank to protect the public

Metro Bank Plc should not have a banking licence. Appalling that the Bank of England and the Prudential Regulation Authority have not yet shut down this bank to protect the public. Withdraw your money whilst you still can.

When problems arise, superficial smiles are replaced with dishonest, borderline psycho behaviour by staff who are clearly not up to the job. Malicious staff especially delight in freezing bank accounts without notice or reason, denying customers access to the money they entrusted Metro Bank to hold. DO NOT TRUST METRO BANK WITH YOUR MONEY.

Online banking and new card excellent service

I went to the Birmingham store today and a colleague called Sanah provided me with excellent customer service and was very professional, she was very fast and efficient with making sure all my needs where met. She is an asset to Metro bank. Deserves a reward.

One of the worst bank in the uk

One of the worst bank in the uk, makes life hard for one I would not recommend this bank to anyone, made a biggest mistake opening my account here will be closing it ASAP stay away if your time and life is precious

Laughably Bad

I am still in the process of trying to set up a business account with Metro Bank.

The customer service and quality of the processes have been the worst I have ever seen in my life. I used to work in finance and I've seen it all.

I have been repeatedly asked for the same information and have spent 5.5 hours and counting trying to get this account set up.

The staff are, for the most part, polite but clueless, and do not take responsibility for the abject failure of their customer service - they seem so accustomed to and nonchalant about receiving negative feedback it's bizarre.

Whilst a lot of them are friendly it is run by people who are not up to it and cannot themselves navigate the backward processes Metro Bank has in place e.g. filling in a paper form, in-branch, for the Metro Bank bod to then manually enter that data onto the system straight after, with 50% accuracy etc. Time = 2 hours.

I am only setting up an account with them because I have to for a funding reason.

AVOID THEM, AVOID THEM, AVOID THEM.

Absolutely loved the experience so far

Absolutely loved the experience so far. Geraldine Oh what an Angel. When visiting the Ilford branch if possible ask for Geraldine she's such a darling.. She's sure to sort you out almost immediately. She's so patient and helpful. Made me love the bank.

Appalling Shambles of a Bank - Avoid at All Costs

I posted a few days ago about the appalling service from Metro Bank, in my view almost fraudulent. The issue still hasn't been resolved because they are now insisting on sending some information by post. That's right, in 2021 Metro Bank haven't worked out that email or secure messaging would be the best way to do it. The outcome is, they will have had my money, a significant sum, for an extra week, gaining interest for themselves. The people on the phone are very good and as friendly and as helpful as they can be but they seem to be embarrassed themselves by the bank. Truly true appalling.

Choose any other bank

Choose any other bank, i have over £2000 in metrobank, but after several attempts to pay £13.50 on ebay because metrobank said insufficient funds find another payment method...after several wasted hours trying understand why metrobank even even via PayPal was declined, only be told ive exceeded max no. transactions, nobody at Reading told me you can pay a limited no. People in one day...deceitful...go to another bank where you can spend your own money...and not be told NO

Shocking service.

Shocking service.
I invested a large amount for one year fixed interest.
Now we are are struggling to get the money sent back to our original account from where we originally sent the money. I have had my internet account blocked because they said that there was suspicious activity.
The suspicious activity was me having problems trying to log in which was no fault of my own because their website was playing up.
They now want me to make a stressful journey to the centre of Birmingham which is a no go area to us. The reason I made an internet account was to save going to banks. They seem so useless and appear to live in a dinosaur age of red tape.
Do not use them if you want to keep your sanity.

New Account - So far so good!

We have just opened an account with Metro Bank and we were very impressed with Veronica, the person who opened our account, other staff and premises. We think it's impressive that the managers are on the "shop floor" and accessible. Although "proof is in the pudding" and it is too early to give 5 Stars - so far so good. The call centre phone was answered very quickly, which is amazing. Normal holding time for any bank is a good 20 mins! Please keep up the service Metro Bank.

Metro. No complaints

Metro Bank are so lovely to me whether I phone or visit the bank in person.
They question any transaction that they feel may be dodgy.
Point being I don't have to worry about my account being emptied.

The worst banking experience ever

If you have an account with Metro Bank please switch to some other bank and close your Metro Bank account immediately. If you are satisfied now at some stage you will regret for not following my advice.
I opened my account few weeks ago and made a transaction of £1000 into my Metro Bank account for an online investment. I even didn’t know when they blocked my account but after a few days when I tried transferring money again (£3000) it didn’t go through. I called customer service, they told me that my account has been blocked so no money can come in and out. I asked for the reason and they said they can’t tell me but will email someone who will get back to me but no time frame was given. They assured me that money should bounce back to the account where it came from within 24 hours. I spoke to three different advisors and they were very unhelpful and didn’t have clue what to do. I called them a number of times and each time the advisor gave me different information. I called the next day and one of the advisors said she will call back. She called me back after 6 hours to tell me that my account has been blocked due to suspicious activity. She gave me an email address and asked to email verification documents. I had to clarify what verification documents as no information was given. There was no time frame given. The interesting thing is that even though my account was blocked and I was told that money can’t come in and out Metro Bank manage to take my money in the account which should not happen. Later I went to the branch to see manager and she said the same thing that if the account is blocked how come the money come in. So Metro bank is happy to take your money even though your account is blocked but can’t provide you with any information on why. I have never come across this sort of worst service in any sector in my entire life. With my HSBC account if there has been any security threat they will call or text you straight away.

Points to consider
1- Are banks allowed to block your account without notifying you?
2- if they block your account shouldn’t the money bounce back to the account it came from? How come they allow it to get in but not out?
3- Their customer service team is clueless. There should be some sort of communication between the customer service team and their fraud/security team
4- The customer service is appalling. They will keep apologizing to you for not having any answers.
5- Reading other reviews it seems that this has happened to so many other customers but Metro bank has not taken any action. I am really surprised how this bank still exists with this sort of service.
I have no clue how long it would take for my account to be unblocked as there is no help available but for sure once this is sorted first thing I will do is close my account and ask my family and friends to do same.

Please pray that I don’t have to wait for long to get my money back and be with this worst bank ever for any longer.

I will be contacting the financial ombudsman, the FCA and getting legal advice

I had a problem accessing my account

I had a problem accessing my account, both on my phone and online on my Mac. It didn't get fixed over the phone, so I had to go into the bank -Tottenham Court Road branch.

Tobi assisted me after a short wait of 5 minutes. He was personable, extremely pleasant and wonderfully competent. In no time at all he sorted everything and fixed my problems.

Tobi gave me superior customer service and I'd like to recommend him for commendation.

Efficient - Sutton branch

I just opened a child account at the Sutton branch, the manager and lady who helped us were very polite and efficient. The new covid processes were dealt well, the manager added us to the list at the door and told us to enjoy some shopping and he would call us when we were near to top of queue. He gave us an estimated time and called us back. All worked well, as there was no waiting inside the bank we got seen quickly. Thanks

closed my account took my money

had this account for 3 years and today they have closed my account with no warning or reason. my account had money in it and was a very active account as I have 3 kids that need things. Going back to my old bank account.

What a joke of the bank.

I wanted to change my mobile number.
They said go to the bank !?!?!?!
Ok i went to their bank. They told me it's done wait 24hr. (24hr for update of your mobile number).
After 24hr nothing yet i rang metro customer services, and this person told me the best thing to do is to go again in bank and change it ahhahaha what a joke, it's not my fault you people fix it.
But no im going back to my old bank, thank you for nothing.

STAY AWAY- DISGRACEFUL & HEARTLESS

Dear Mr Frumpkin,

I wanted to let you know, that although it has come at enormous stress and at
significant and unnecessary cost to us, I'm relieved that we have ended our ongoing stressful relationship with your disgraceful Mickey Mouse bank.

You truly are the most disingenuous company, we've ever had the misfortune to have had our business dealings with!

In the midst of a global pandemic, even though there was little to no risk to Metro, you hit the panic button without the slightest consideration to us. This situation, clearly is a direct result caused of Metro inflating it’s share value, and your greed has resulted in refinancing costs us in excess of £100k and we fully intend to seek advice with regards to a compensation claim!

You lured people like us away from reputable banks, in our case Nat West, with false empty promises of how different and caring you were, when simply Metro is just a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Your Trust Pilot reviews say it all, and for your convenience and so you're under no illusion, I have pasted Metro review link -

As a property professional, I feel it's important that people know the type of company you really are, and how you treated us.

I have already advised and warned several clients, family members and friends to keep away from Metro, which has resulted in several millions of pounds of possible new mortgage business, not being placed with Metro!

As you know, Christmas 2020 was particularly hard for all families. With great empathy, consideration and seasonal cheer, Metro added a bit more sparkle and surprise, by writing to us on the 22nd December, informing us that we had 3 months to re-finance, sell or you would appoint LPA receivers. I accept that we were in technical breach of the terms, due to circumstances which we had no control over, however, we had never missed a mortgage payment and tried to make arrangements by giving Metro comfort by offering to pay quarterly or even 6 months up front, which was declined.

Dealing with bereavement, the threat of losing our property and possibly our business, really added to the Christmas spirit and something I will never forget.

In closing, I truly hope Metro gets all it deserves and I'm sure there will be many more unhappy customers, posting the truth about a small challenger bank that coned it’s way on to the high street and hopefully shortly disappears as fast as it arrived.
