I'm glad to hear that you found the session very useful. I will pass on your comments about the session feeling rushed to your mediator for their reflection.
As general information, the Family Mediation Council, who are responsible for standards within Family Mediation, requires the session to last a minimum of 45 minutes. We typically allow an hour to explore the issues but as you can appreciate there is a lot to cover - including providing information about mediation and other forms of non-court dispute resolution as well as discussing your circumstances and whether mediation is safe or appropriate for you at this time.

I found the whole experience biased…
I found the whole experience biased from the start. Where my situation was almost irrelevant, where I as a person was not seen, but it also shows in today’s society that woman have all the rights, get all the support and men are often seen as as the bad person regardless of circumstances. I felt like the mind has been made up before I was even listened too. The pure fact that the mediator is only a woman made the whole experience prejudiced from the start. In my personal opinion it should be considered to have two mediators present both man and woman so it is actually impartial and non biased for everyone.

It is always disappointing if our clients feel that they have not recievied the best service and I can only apologise if you felt you did not receive the highest standard of professional practice from our mediator.
I have looked at your case and you will appreciate that I am unable to go in to anything specifc within this reply due to confidentiality. However, I can say that all of our mediators are accredited by the Family Mediation Council and therefore provide their services in line with the FMC Code of Practice. Of particular importance as one of the central components of mediation as detailed in the Code of Practice is the impartiality and neutrality of the mediator. Our mediators are extremely aware of this and offer their services on this basis.
It is always welcome to receive feedback and so I will pass on your comments to your mediator for their reflection.
I agree that in an ideal scenario two mediators could be used (this is referred to as co-mediation) and this would in an ideal world be one male and one female, however, resources and the cost to the client associated with doing this would generally be prohibitive especially where one of the clients is legally aided and the use of more than one mediator is only permitted for exceptional circumstances.

Perpetual meditation
Nothing wrong administratively ie making payments, sorting dates etc but highly ineffective at directing towards a solution instead a preference for supplementary meetings. Ultimately a business and not a charity, in hindsight very much a case of attending the meeting/s and then withdrawing from the process sooner rather than later in order to move forward. A duplication of costs particularly if you already have solicitor involvement.

I have sent you an information request as we are not able to confirm which of our clients you are so that we can review your file.
In the first instance in relation to your comments about the service received, I can make the comment that all of our mediators have many years of experience and are accredited with the Family Mediation Council.
The forum of mediation allows our clients to explore possible resolutions outside (or sometimes alongside) a court process. Mediation can take several sessions depending on the complexity of the issues brought to mediation. Our mediators would never seek to extend the process if progress is not being made.
It is not always possible to reach an agreed way forward - Mediation is not a magic wand, however, even if a resolution cannot be reached mediation can, due to the legally privileged nature of the discussions, help to explore the issues so that clients can better understand their respective positions in a way that is not always possible through solicitor negotiation or a court process.

Update - thank you for providing your details so that I could review your case. Having had a chance to do this, the comments above hopefully provide some general context to the benefits of mediation overall but to repeat whilst mediation can allow legally privileged discussions to take place with the assistance of a skilled mediator, ultimately agreed proposals are made by the clients themselves. It is not always possible to reach an agreement and sometimes a court process may be required.
It is also becoming more popular to use a hybrid model where solicitors are on hand during the mediation session to assist their clients directly, this can reduce the overall costs and can be a quicker way of reaching a resolution. This is something that Mediation First offers where appropriate after we have met our clients to discuss the best model of mediation for them.

Experience meditation
I had a very good experience with Meditation first, I was able to book my first appointment with ease.
I then had a very good response to my first appointment.
I was able to express my thoughts and feelings without feeling overwhelmed.
Unfortunately my ex partner did not engage with the invitation to mediation. But no fault of the mediator.
It was a good step to try and engage with my ex partner over children matters.
I will now Persue the other options available to me.
