The owner sent my makeup brand to labs and detected indications of high levels of PFAS even though the brand denied it initially. I am very grateful to have this information as a consumer.

I bought an entire set of Our Place…

I bought an entire set of Our Place pans and bake ware based on this sites reviews of quality non-poisoning tests. Now the pans I bought are on the list of avoid due to recent nano-particle release. What the H good is this site if it doesn’t test for all of her warnings against a product! I paid a fortune for her recommendations…is she going to give me back my money because she recommended this set as being safe for my family? I think not. Who is paying for her recommendations? The manufacturers of the items she has coupons for and links to purchase her approved list? Be cautious of her recommendations. Don’t buy based on her Tests! She isn’t as thorough as you are led to believe!

You may be a little bit confused about which investigation has testing and which does not. We try to be as clear as we can inside the content, but not everyone reads all the details. It's not possible to test the cookware (and other small kitchen appliances) for lots of technical reasons, so what we do in that category is reach out to the brands and ask them very specific questions. Unfortunately, when we reached out to Our Place years ago, they claimed they did not use nano on their cookware. The following year when we did an update, they changed their minds. So what we do is update the info as quickly as we can, but we do not have the ability to know if they are lying to us OR if they do not understand the issues, which is also sometimes very common. Mamavation also does investigations where we send food and personal care to the lab for testing of specific contaminants and you'll read that also in the comments. That may be why you believe we tested the cookware. I would recommend you contact them and ask for a refund because they were saying years ago they were not full of nano. You won't be the only one.

Has Helped Me Improve My Health

I was diagnosed with asthma in my early 70's after a bout of Covid. Mamavation has been my "go to" source for household and personal items to help me get rid of the triggering factors in my house. I have changed my tissues, my toilet paper, my tea, my deodorant and so many other items to help me breathe better. My asthma is now pretty well managed and I attribute Mamavation with much of my improvement. I didn't realize that many of the common chemicals are asthma triggers before I found Mamavation. Also, I am a retired professional researcher and I am totally satisfied with the quality of the research.

Beyond grateful for Mamavation

The woman who runs Mamavation, the woman who is Mamavation is one of the most selfless humans I've ever met. She's working for the betterment for all of us. I don't know about anyone else, but I've never paid for information from her testing. Yes, I use her links so she can get the benefit of my shopping because she's helping me do better for my family. I want plastics, heavy metals and chemicals out of our food supply and the every day products my family and I use. Mamavation helps give me the information on what is the safest to buy

Longevity with Mamavation

I've been following Mamavation and Leah Segedie for 13+ years now, and I can honestly say she’s one of the most dedicated advocates out there when it comes to ingredient transparency and healthier living.

Leah does the research most of us don't have time for—and she presents it in a way that’s easy to understand and actually useful. Whether you're trying to choose safer personal care products or avoid toxins in your food, Mamavation is my go-to. I trust Leah’s recommendations more than most because she’s not afraid to speak the truth, even when it’s unpopular. Highly recommend this platform to anyone who cares about what goes in—and on—their body.

Mamavation is a really great resource…

Mamavation is a really great resource for finding clean products to use in your home and daily life. They give you really great background information and the science on why you should avoid certain chemicals and products. She then gives you a list of not great, better, best products to choose from that often cover a variety of price points to make it more attainable for a lot of people.

Her philosophy is always "green enough" in that you should do what you can to minimize your exposure. She doesn't recommend that you have to go 100% if you don't want to or can't afford to, so she gives you options to choose from that work best for you. It's really refreshing to have someone take the "do what you can and what's best for you" approach in a world full of BS influencers peddling lies and telling you that you should go 100% in a certain direction or else you're failing.

Definitely follow Mamavation if you want to live a more green life, but don't want to feel like you have to be crazy about it.

Leah Segedie is a fearless advocate!

Leah Segedie is a fearless advocate for clean living and an incredible force who exposes the hidden toxins in our everyday products and foods. Her relentless pursuit of truth is driven by integrity and a deep commitment to empowering families with knowledge. What sets Leah apart is her unwavering dedication to independently raising funds for third-party testing, ensuring that we get honest, science-backed information about the products we use.

Before I buy anything, I check to see if Leah has reviewed or tested it. Her work has become my go-to source for safe, toxin-free choices. I first discovered her through her eye-opening book, Green Enough, and I’ve been following Mamavation ever since. The amount of toxic chemicals in everyday items is shocking, but thanks to Leah’s thorough research and lab testing, I feel empowered to make better choices for my family.

East Better * Live Cleaner * Be Happier

I have been following Mamavation since I found her book; Green Enough. It is eye opening to learn how many every day products are toxic! Leah Segedie tests lots of every day products through professional labs to find what is in them or what exactly they are made of and shares the truth about if they are toxic to you and your children. If you care about what’s toxic and what’s not you should follow Mamavation online!

I LOVE this website

I only came across this website in the past few months (after their cinnamon study was referenced by some other trusted consumer testing groups) and I am soooo glad to have found it. There are quite a few consumer testing groups that test products for heavy metals like lead and arsenic, but Mamavation seems to research what certain product categories are most likely to be contaminated with (for some products it might be glyphosate, for others in might be phthalates, for others PFAS, etc) and then test for the most problematic of those contaminants. There are so many toxins in our world today that it can be paralyzing to try to make a decision about the best product to choose. So it's hugely helpful to have someone say, "Contaminant X is much more problematic than Contaminant Y, so we tested some products and here's what tested clean for X".
And for those who are worried that some brands might "pay to play" in order to get preferential results, just have a look through a selection of studies. There are quite a few brands that test great in one category and really poorly in another.
Overall, highly recommend!

Actual testing you can trust!

Mamavation has been my go-to for years now! There is a wealth of information available, with 3rd party testing of products from reputable labs. Just today I used Mamavation.com to help me decide which makeup products and ingredients to avoid and which are better for my teen.
It is wonderful to have someone you can actually trust for this information!

Awesome source!

Mamavation is my "go-to" for ALL things healthy! I honestly don't purchase a single item (food, clothing, household supplies, etc.) without going to the Mamavation research data! My grown son dies the same thing when he shops!
Thank you so much, Leah!!!

This is an affiliate marketing scam

This is an affiliate marketing scam. She has NEVER disclosed the lab or the lab results she uses. I talked to an expert in lab testing and they said when it gets to numbers like “30 parts per billion of pthalates” it’s almost 100% that is BS!

They cannot detect that little amount.

She just writes articles making up numbers of toxins in big brands and then sells you the “solution” who she conveniently makes money on. It’s a scam.

I don't know who your friend is who tests phthalates, but you absolutely CAN get results under 30 ppb.

I have a mixed review

I have a mixed review. At first I was so grateful to have products tested for purity. I threw out many pantry food items, and restocked based on her reports for herbs, spices, oils, grains, legumes, oats, peanut butter, dishes, cookware, etc.
While grateful to have the information, I was frustrated that some of the links to 'better' and 'best' items on her amazon affiliate links were 'currently unavailable' or the item had been relisted at an exhorbitant cost.
I also noticed her site mentions many 'better' and best' list items that are out of state and unavailable to many consumers in their regions.
So I would go through the list and find only 3 'better' and 'best' options for dried legumes, for example, the only safe dried legumes I could buy in my area were black eyed peas, from Target and dried great northern beans from Target and Walmart!
So I began loooking up EWG.org scores, and found many lower cost 'safe' options.
But, I noticed her scores contradict EWG.org scores (Environmental Working Group).
But EWG.org does not have an affiliate link to earn commissions on products sold on amazon, for example. huh.
It is not her fault that her site is unable to test all products available for sale in local grocery stores. But having a tiny amount of information ends up leaving the consumer in a state of fear, anxiety and panic: what items are 'safe?' And not enough information 'out there' and no way to find out.
This is not her fault, it would take a huge concerted effort to have testing done across the board so consumers have the information they need to purchase safe items. At least she is providing helpful information!
I did notice her affiliate link to amazon had a lot of very high priced items that no one on a normal or low budget could afford. I did not want to engage in 'food or kitchen snobbery' or elitism, so was frustrated.
I felt sorry for others who cannot afford these 'better' and 'best' list items.
While I am grateful to find the information on herbs and spices, oils and other grocery items; when it is cost prohibitive, I go by the EWG.org scores which you can look up by googling: "product name and EWG score," for example.
I purchased some store brand dried legumes from Family Fare, Walmart, Target, and Meijers based on Ewg.org scores, and found them on mamavation's 'not favorite' list! Then I foud some of her better and best list items on EWG scored at a level of 3 or more instead of 1 or 2 which is lowest for food toxins. Since I eat mainly vegetarian, this was increasingly frustrating.
If I went only by Mavation's safe food scores, there was very little options for safe food items in my area in the midwest that I could find, or afford! So I had limited options for safe food to eat.
Also, I noticed prices have skyrocketed on 'safe food'and other items, and price gouging is occurring on an alarming scale, as the panic for 'safe food' is rising amoung consumers. I found significant price gouging for products listed on mamavation's 'better' and 'best' lists on many online sites like amazon, ebay, walmart and other sites! As well as the fact that the stores no longer carry these items (as many that were previously available are now out of stock or currently unavailable). Some unscrupulous people bought them up, similar to the toilet paper shortage during the pandemic, and are now selling them at higher prices. This is also not her fault. There are always those instances where unscrupulous people take advantage and buy and resell items at exhorbitant prices.
I wonder how much these sites prey on the fear of consumers to get them to purchase higher priced and now 'price gouged' items?
I understand that very few sites can test all the food items available at local grocery stores, so again, that is not her fault. Of course, it could help if there were store brand testing done on national chain grocery stores, so consumers could have a clue, and purchase safer items that are affordable and available in their region. Again this is not her fault.
I do not want to be a 'food or kitchen snob' - During the devastation of increasing natural disasters like the fires, hurricanes, tornadoes and flood ravaged regions, and people have no food and running water, do you think they will stick their nose up, and refuse items on mamavation's 'not favorite' list, when they are starving? No. When you donate to charities to bring food to others in need, are they are going to check mamavation's or other similar sites and lists? No. You eat what you get and are grateful to have anything, and that's it.
So why bother. Put your trust and faith in God first, and pray over your food, and pray about this first, in Jesus' Name. Especially in these situations and perilous times. Who has time for all of this, with what is going on in the world?

Filling in the wide Gap the FDA leaves

I like that there is an organization who is doing what the FDA should have been doing right along . Now that there is the possibility of true change to our government organizations, this type of "research" should be vetted and made easily available to the public. I understand the review that said it had a certain vagueness to it but I'm not surprised to see that many common foods and items are allowed to be toxic.

I'm a rebel at heart and when someone…

I'm a rebel at heart and when someone claims anything at all, I request evidence.
Something tells me that, brands being involved, MAMAVATION might have some biased opinions, maybe sponsorship, who's to know? I look for links to their claimed "studies" or "research" and I can't find any credible reference other than the link to EPA, but no definite information ro establish trust. I'm not saying they are wrong, and I recently came across MAMAVATION, but I don't think is wise to believe simply because there's no other resources available for us, simple mortals. There's conflictive information, there's opacity in the methods, etc. I think what we all should do is request for our government to establish official venues and protocols for this type or research, to make it public and unbiased. I give 3 stars to MAMAVATION because I can't deny their claims, but sadly, I don't think there's a way to confirm them either. I won't follow their "recommendations", but will do my own research, call companies and keep an open mind when reading their articles.

Mamavation is THE leader in non toxic living movement

We have a lot of autoimmune issues in our family so I rely on Mamavation to find the lowest toxicity products possible. She was testing for glyphosate and PFAS before anyone knew about them.

I love that she ranks the brands so you have a variety of choices based on how much you can afford (the best ones aren’t necessarily the most expensive).

I love that she is completely up front about how she funds the tests - affiliate links and ads. Though I do wish I could opt out on the ads (@mamavation I’d be happy to pay a subscription), I’m happy to use the affiliate links to support her work.

Leah is one of the true honest players trying to help people find better options for the things we use every day. She stands up to threats from brands when her lab tests show their product has high toxicity, and she doesn’t hesitate to retest a brand if they change their QA team or their product specs.

The Facebook group is a real bonus-she often asks for input on what types of products we’d like to see tested. She has very strict rules about not promoting products you are make a commission from (this is super common on some other Facebook groups that I’m on and it’s really annoying), being polite, etc Teh rules all seem quite reasonable for a private group (heads up-she will boot you out in a heartbeat if you violate them).

I don’t normally write such long reviews, but I’m really passionate about what Leah is doing and the value Mamavation brings by giving us transparency on toxicity in the products we use every day.

Mamavation does what nearly no one else…

Mamavation does what nearly no one else does: they hold companies accountable through independent lab testing for chemicals like PFAS. They also share those results in ways that are useful for women regardless of their budget, whether one can afford the "better" or "best" products. I follow closely and have learned about PFAS in my deodorant and butter wrappers, for example, which helped me choose differently. I tell everyone I know to check out the site, and hear back that my friends found it helpful.
