Constant APP issues
I am giving a 4 star because the bank is great! But their app is always having issues. ALWAYS! It's driving me nuts!
Incompetent
This credit union does not understand court documents. The employees are rude, unhelpful, and grossly ignorant of basic financial institution responsibility. We actually filed a complaint with the NCUA over their incompetence. Stay away!
Business banking service sucks…
In an increasing online/digital banking environment, this bank absolutely bucks. I have yet to ever get satisfactory service over the phone for my business accounts. Will be switching as soon as feasible.
Was lied to multiple times
Was lied to multiple times. The lack of knowledge for business credit was unreal to me.. they even had a vehicle loan for 3 yrs which gave no credit through personal or business credit.. if you want a quality place to help give you credit and better your situation this establishment is not the correct place.. would not recommend ever
If I could give them zero stars I would…
If I could give them zero stars I would . I have had so much fraud on this account , but this last one is the last straw as it can e from a number on their website through Zelle, and they did NOTHING to fix the situation, basically said tough luck and that’s it. Literally the scammers took ALL my money out of my account and they are making us seem like it’s my fault I got scammed when the fraud was directly resulting from their website. I am LIVID. I had my money as well as my entire personal identification information taken from home. They don’t care . They will get their money back.. from the investigation, they just won’t give mine back to me / this is the second account conversion I’ve had in 3 months from fraud it just another of many fraudulent charges the bank allowed though . Worst customer service ever!
They returned the payment I made on a…
They returned the payment I made on a car loan from them then repoed my car. They refused to communicate with me or respond to my email and destroyed my credit for several years
Too long of a check hold…
We deposited a check from a different account on the 22nd, and they put a hold on it until the 26th even after it cleared our bank.
Mountain America is not for the small business
It is incredibly frustrating to feel like a loyal customer for years, only to be turned away when you need a simple tool to grow your business. Five years of history usually counts for a lot, but merchant services (taking credit cards) work a bit different
Even though my FICO scores were 650
They would not give me a credit card reader.
I guess I have no choice but to continue to use square and pay their high price fees for a credit card use
This is the first time I've had problems with mountain America and I'm really sick of them saying it if I ever need anything they'll be there for me.
The people that work there are very nice but the policies are very unfair and unrealistic
I was lied about the interest rate that…
I was lied about the interest rate that I was going to pay for my car note in order to get me to sign up. I looked at the interest rate written in the document I signed and was told that they were going to fix it to the interest rate they originally told me. That didn't happen, I was paying more interest rate that I normally would have. The only reason I did my car note with MACU was because I believed they had the cheapest interest rate because they told me so. When in fact, they were one of the most expensive and lied to me in order to get me to sign up with them. Never again MACU, I don't recommend them to my worst enemy.
Allowing a fraudulent charge to hit my account
I have been with MACU for YEARS and I have an obvous fraudlent charge on my card. This isn't a small amount either. I disputed it and MACU found that it was legitmate. I have my state Attorney General investigating this and they agree it is fraud but MACU doesn't and they are inisiting that I pay this large dollar amount.
I was told by someone yesterday that I could redispute it. Today I am told that I can not and they do not stand behind what their employees tell their customers that they owe us nothing. The supervisor I spoke to had a deffinate attitude.
I told them that I am going to close my account and was told "oh well".
Mountain America amazing experience!
My experience with Mountain America was amazing! The team was friendly, professional, outgoing, and extremely knowledgeable! I always felt welcome when calling and going in and the team was eager to assist you. I’ve seen some of the reviews and don’t understand those that left lower scaled scores. This Credit Union was so helpful I truly enjoyed banking there and was very bummed when I thought I should leave. (I moved out of state & didn’t realize they had sister banks across the US). When I Mountain America I went to USAA which is an amazing institution. I would definitely rank Mountain America in the same league as USAA! Keep doing the amazing job you’ve been doing!
Stuck overseas with NO account access
I am FURIOUS with the lack of access to my money that I have had overseas. I am currently sitting on a free shuttle and now running late for my flight back to the US because I have once again been blocked from booking an Uber on both of my MACU bank cards. I have provided my travel dates through the app before traveling and have already contacted you TWICE while in Ireland to remove repeated blocks on my cards. I have been stuck trying to get from the airport to my hotel upon arrival, stuck alone late at night trying to get back to my hotel, and am now running late to catch my international flight because of this despite reaching out to you several times throughout this trip. I only bank with MACU and have had NO access to funds during these times and have been left totally desperate, alone, trying to figure out alternatives with NO money. You had better believe that will change after this experience. I could not be more infuriated right now. Honestly, screw you all. I will never travel with you again!
Rude, arrogant and compete lack of responsibility
I sent a check using USPS. The tracking number indicated they received the check. I called MACU numerous times to make sure the transaction with the enclosed funds are performed. They indicated they were on it and to call the next day, After several days of calling, getting the run around, they said they lost the check. They were of no help. Because this was a 401K check--it was issued by the administrator I had to call the Administrator to begin a check cancelling process and waste of not being able to have my 401K transferred. Do not use MACU. They have no customer service. And when they answer they are rude, inconsiderate, and not reliable.
Save yourself the headache.
Wouldn’t recommend. My husband cashed his paycheck through them, was told there would be a 24hr hold. We are on day 5, and still no money we can access. Husband called and spoke to someone, informed them we have very important appointments today that we need OUR money for. They still won’t release our money, almost 3k. Claimed that they don’t have enough history with the people who paid him. He works for the city, how do you not have enough history with the city? Paycheck even says “CITY OF _____”. She said once the hold is done on the check they won’t need to hold any further checks from the city. My husband just laughed and said he’s switching banks after he gets his money. Save yourself the headache and don’t go with Mountain America.
Customer service is terrible
Went to deposit a check. Had the teller accuse me of stealing the money. The manager tried to get me to get a loan instead of depositing my check. Questioned what I was spending it on. Kept saying it was fraudulent. Then put a two week hold because they said it wasn't good. It is. Ridiculous. Will be changing credit unions. Never have I ever been treated so terrible.
This is by far the WORST bank someone…
This is by far the WORST bank someone could EVER deal with! They close branches left and right and their staff has no clue what they are doing. I have since switched to a different bank and wish I would have a long time ago. Do yourself a favor and run from this bank! Literally any bank is better than this joke of one.
My feedback is after 21 years with this…
My feedback is after 21 years with this credit union, I will be leaving. Why? I applied for an RV loan thru a dealer, they had me approved thru a different credit union, but I wanted to use mine. The dealer submitted the application got a counter offer back with approval at 7.99%. The CU then asked for proof of my residence, which I happily provided. You see I work remotely and part of the year I live in my RV in AZ and part of the year, I live at my daughters in UT. The minute they saw my mailing address was an RV resort, the pulled back my approval. I went to the local branch here in Mesa, AZ and talked to branch manager and assistant branch manager, but was told underwriting stands by their decision, unless I want to put 50% down but even that does not guarantee and approval. I am a senior, I am a snowbird, I live in my RV part of the year and discriminated against because of it. I will be closing my accounts today, filing a complaint with the BBB, as well as putting this same review on every social media platform I am aware of. I want other people to know it does not matter how long you have been with this CU if you live part time in your RV which a lot of us do close to retirement, you will be discriminated against.
Locked out accounts requiring branch visit for a remote member
After they worked with me over the phone (I live in California) to open my accounts and take my money, two months later they locked my online account and are requiring me to go into a branch with two forms of ID and proof of address. This is ridiculous! I'm not going to get on a plane to Utah just to get my online account with MACU unlocked. They need to provide alternative means of verifying identity and address without visiting a physical branch.
Terrible experience
I wanted to put money into this institution into two sizeable CDs. Two people to whom I spoke were rude to me (my son was shocked at how rudely they spoke to me -- one, a woman, even spoke to my son about me in the third person). When I left messages asking for someone to call me back either (1) they never called me back (this happened on more than one occasion) or (2) they finally did call me back -- but several days later -- and the rate that I wanted was gone by that point and replaced by a much lower interest rate. They made it outrageously difficult to open an account with them. The CDs never got opened and, now, I never will even attempt to deal with Mountain America CU ever again.
I Can See Why MACU's Ratings are So Low on Yelp and TrustPilot
I can see why their Yelp rating is only 2.7, and their TrustPilot rating only 2.0 (the latter probably more accurate), now that I've done business with them a little bit. Here are my complaints:
1. I transferred my money to them so I could open a CD since they had the highest rate I could find for a term of 12-18 months. The day the the money wire hit my new savings account with them, I called to set up the CD, since their system would not allow me to do it online. They said it would take 1-3 business days. After 4 days, the CD was still not open, so they had not kept their promise.
2. I called them on day 4 and they opened the CD on the spot, saying they had no record of me requesting the CD be opened. Top businesses nowadays often keep a record of phone convo's w/ clients so any customer service person can refer to it, thus give better client service, and avoid the super annoying and unprofessional question businesses sometimes ask of "who did you speak with?". The lady I spoke with on day one did not give me her name; how convenient, smh.
3. They were costing me significant money per day, since the CD was worth quite a bit.
4. On day 4, after they opened the CD over the phone, and confirmed it was opened, I requested a mere one day's worth of interest, since they had not kept their promise, they had proven it was quick and easy to open the CD (by doing it over the phone in minutes, instead of taking 1-3 days), and imo the client should not have to pay for the business not keeping their word and doing sloppy business in general. A different lady this time that was helping me said she checked and they would have to evaluate it, and someone should be getting back to me within a short time, and she gave me the exact # of days estimate.
5. Since they then did not get back to me via email as quickly as they had said they would, I contacted them again, so they had not kept their word again, so this was the 2nd time they had not kept their word.
6. They finally got back to me via email and asked me if I had any written documentation to support my request. How rude! Of course there was no written documentation, as the agreement was done by phone, and if they needed proof, then they should record the phone calls (after approval by client to record) and play them back to confirm them. They must know they promise 1-3 biz days to open a CD, as that must surely be their policy or the rep would not have told me that. And why would I open a savings account with them for the sole purpose of opening a CD at a high rate, and then not open the CD asap once the money was confirmed as in my savings account? They know that every time I have contacted them from the start, I had expressly said I wanted to open a CD at the special 5% rate that they were running at the time. I mean, really, how gauche.
7. I called them during all this process, trying to find out if they were going to credit me 1 day of interest or not (I could have asked for 2-3 days, since they had said 1-3 days, so they were 1-3 days late when I contacted them on day 4, and since they had not kept their promise, and were costing me time and money, yet I was generous, and only asked for 1 day interest). Their phone system said the wait was 25', and I could ask for a call back if I wished. I accepted this automated system offer, and then waited 35-40' and they never called back, so they broke their promise again, for at least the 3rd time, when I had only been doing business with them for about 1 week. In fact, they never called back at all, and I had to call them again after work that day.
8. Finally, when they had the nerve to ask me if I had any written documentation to support my claim, I said I was done with them, I was not going to ask again, they could either be professional and honorable or not, yet regardless, I was going to post at least one objective review online, telling people of my actual experience with them and their dreadful customer service. So, now at least one has been completed, as promised. I will complete my CD term with them and intend to never do business with them again.
