It was a great experience, I attended the flagship programme at oxford and I couldn't be happier

One of the most unexpected and meaningful parts of my time at the John Locke Summer Camp was the friendships I made. Before arriving in Boston, I was nervous about meeting so many new people. I wondered whether I would fit in, whether I would have anything in common with everyone, and whether I would feel comfortable being myself. I never could have imagined that some of the people I met within those first few days would become some of my closest friends.

A great experience; the lectures were very insightful and the preceptors were friendly and approachable. I learnt lots on this course and we did lots of fun activities, like punting, a boat party, and farewell dinner in the Oxford Museum of Natural History.

Attending the Applied Mathematics Course in Cambridge this year was honestly one of the most intellectually transformative experiences of my life so far. I feel extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from inspiring professors, entrepreneurs and authors who shared their passion and challenged us to think beyond our narrow school curriculum. My eyes were opened to the incredibly wide range of applications that maths has in our world from climate change and cost benefit analysis to business competition and game theory. Beyond the academic experience, I was inspired by the intellectual curiosity and ambition of the students around me, many of whom I am now fortunate to call friends. I left the course with an even deeper passion for mathematics, a broader perspective on its applications, and a strong desire to remain involved with the JLI community.

My experience with the John Locke Institute was genuinely one of the most intellectually rewarding experiences I have had as a student. What stood out to me was not just the quality of the teaching, but the way every discussion pushed me to question assumptions, reason independently, and engage with ideas I would never have encountered in a conventional classroom. The preceptors and professors were incredibly thoughtful, the students were curious and ambitious, and the conversations often continued far beyond the classroom. I came in with a strong interest in mathematics and left with a much broader appreciation for how economics, policy, geography, mathematics, and philosophy can intersect. More than anything, JLI gave me greater confidence in my own ability to think, question, and learn. I also came away with wonderful friendships and memories that I know I will carry for a long time. I would wholeheartedly recommend JLI to anyone who wants an education that challenges not only what you know, but how you think.

I had an exceptional experience at the John Locke Institute. The programme was intellectually stimulating, challenging, and incredibly rewarding, while also providing the opportunity to meet a group of ambitious and like-minded students. The Preceptors and Professors were very competent, both in their expertise and in the way they encouraged open discussion and critical thinking. I was also particularly impressed by Martin Cox’s leadership and the vision behind the programme. Having attended several other educational programmes, I can honestly say that John Locke was by far the most inspiring and enriching one I have experienced. I would highly recommend it to any curious and ambitious student.

I think the John Locke community is one of the kind that is holistic enough to support students intellectually and socially. It’s a summer course that I will cherish and look back in, because of how many people I’ve met that are my friends.

I have attended two JLI programs, both in Oxford. During both courses I was able to have lectures from speakers at Cambridge, Oxford and Harvard, and attend socratic seminars with students from all around the world. Even after years of not seeing other students, I am still in contact with them, through the amazing connections that the institute has given us. I also participated in incredible debates on topics such as ‘Is war ever morally justified’ and ‘What are morals’ which have hugely shaped my thought and speech processes, meaning I am a much more confident person. During the programs, there are also a plethora of activities to participate in such as swimming, tennis, karaoke and an ice cream party. The institute is incredible and I would be a completely different person if I had not attended.

I had a great time being exposed to new ideas through both lectures by interesting speakers and engaging student-led discussions. The overall experience expanded my worldview and helped me not only to further develop my arguing skills, but also discover my own ideas through this course.

I recently attended JLI's Politics and International Relations summer school at Georgetown. I went into the program unsure of what to expect from it, but the sheer value completely blew me away. Not only did we get to engage with knowledgeable and enthusiastic professors on a day-to-day basis, but my peers were also ridiculously sharp and friendly. JLI's summer courses offer not only valuable knowledge and a tight-knit community of potentially lifelong friends, but also build qualities like intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and confidence.

It was such a lovely experience, I got to meet so many amazing people, both staff and students. The discussions were very challenging and thought provoking.

I attended the John Locke Institute Flagship Programme at Oxford and loved learning from world-class professors and peers. It was an amazing opportunity to engage in respectful disagreement and develop my own views.

false advertisement... 1, the programme has basically nothing to do with oxford except that we got like three hours of free time in town one day... and a punting trip the other day... but no academic involvement at all. 2, more than half of the professors were not legit and gave super introductory lectures that NO ONE LEARNED ANYTHING NEW. (eg., one psychology lecture was given by an intern and she started from "what is psychology"...so...) 3, the whole organization of the summer school was unsatisfactory, as students were almost always confused about directions and event locations. 4, unnecessarily strict rules!!! We are not allowed to leave campus at any given time, are forbidden from entering other same-gender dorms and other rooms, and are not allowed to leave dorm room past eleven. Absurdly 7 students were straight up expelled from the program just because they were outside of their rooms past 11pm... no warning, no strike whatsoever. That included three girls I knew who quietly exchanged a few words after simply going to use the restroom and disturbed nobody... It was for sure very unfair. Overall, it was unfortunately a dissapointing experience. PLEASE do not waste 13k for this scam. (also they did not specify the price of this two week program until after we were accepted)

John Locke PPE Summer School Singapore
The John Locke PPE Summer School in Singapore this year was an unforgettable experience for me. From the elite organisation of the entire program to the vivid lectures, everything about it was simply perfected. Everyone who attended was so polite and respectful, and you can really engage in some meaningful intellectual conversations with many different people from different places. I learnt and experienced a lot there, not merely from the coursework but also the environment and people I was encapsulated in. Would definitely recommend

I attended my first JLI course this summer in Singapore. It was amazing! There were so many people from all over the world, all interesting and so fun to talk to. Each lecture gave me something new to think about, and some even changed my perspective on the world as a whole.

After attending the Georgetown Summer University program, my entire academic trajectory has shifted. I have made connections with alumni from Oxford, Cambridge, Columbia, LSE, and many more esteemed institutions that have connected me to a well of immeasurable academic and career opportunities. Beyond the influential professors, authors, and scholars I had the opportunity to connect with, I have created lifelong friendships with students from all over the world each with their own unique and powerful ideas. Furthermore, once your program comes to an end, your journey with JLI doesn’t stop. The institute has become an invaluable tool towards my academic success as well as a family that I can rely on. If you have the opportunity to attend a summer program, I recommend you do anything in your power to go, as it is truly a once in a lifetime experience.

I attended the John Locke Georgetown University summer program and it was entirely worth it. The staff and faculty were amazing and I walked out of it with new knowledge and friends across the world. The professors who were brought were clearly well selected and provided a new insight into IR and politics. Would recommend to all looking for an amazing learning opportunity over the summer.

I attended the John Locke Summer Program in Georgetown this summer and had a great time! I was genuinely challenged about my beliefs and felt incredibly inspired by my peers, preceptors, and lecturers. There are so many memories and friends I made that will stay with me for a very long time. Would recommend to anyone looking for an intellectually stimulating way to spend their summer.

My time at JLI changed the way I see the world. Between the lectures, the debates, and the late-night conversations with staff like Pia and even Mr. Cox himself, I learned patience, how to argue fast without losing respect for the other side, and how to be wrong without getting defensive. I came in as a student and left as someone genuinely rethinking how I want to grow, as a debater, a thinker, and a person.
