Well organised - a few little tweaks could make it excellent
This was a pre-race practice session as it turned out. Being new to the whole thing, I hadn't appreciated this when I booked on the NSSA website because the race itself was a closed event. Anyway, it seemed very well organised. There were way more kids there than I’d anticipated and some queuing but it all ran smoothly. If I was being picky, I’d have liked to have seen the instructors make sure kids didn’t push into the queue - some bigger kids pushed their way past smaller ones every single run. And also given feedback even if it wasn’t solicited- my son is a little under confident asking in situations like that so he missed out a bit.

Thanks for your review Angharad. Just to put this into context. The training session was a pre race practice session for a large event. The centre can accommodate far more trainees but we limited the numbers to improve the experience - Queuing at the lift is inevitable but queues were kept to a minimum and the children got plenty of runs. Coaches tried to speak to all the trainees throughout the evening.

Great first ski racing experience
This was the first ski racing for our child and it was a great experience. Good organisation. Clear, friendly details on how it worked. Not too busy and the NSSA was excellent.

Fab time at Swadlincote

Great event
It was a great - really nice event that Impulse Racing put on for the National School Snow Sports Association! Very well organised and the the commentary was brilliant. My daughter is now so enthused that she wants to join a race club. One thing - she's only seven and was competing as an under 11, so maybe a younger age group would be good next time. Maybe under 9s too...

New to racing ? Join a session !
As newcomers to racing we were made to feel welcome, you do not need all the equipment to join in - ski hire is included. The coaches were attentive and knowledgable and gave Reuben just the right amount of encouragement and guidance, their skills and experience evident at every stage of the process. If your child enjoys skiing and has all the basic skills and wants to progress I would recommend joining a session, Ru came away with new skills and buzzing from the timed racing . Thanks all !

Amazing training, amazing team
My daughter attended a squad orientation day last weekend. The coaches and the whole team were fantastic and my daughter came home buzzing with excitement and didn’t want to come home. She learnt so much and is looking forward to training with them again. Thank you so much. Ever seen her so excited

More organisation needed
Due to my son over egging his skiing ability we weren't able to take part on the evening and just used the facilities to practice, away from the group. The 3 stars are for the organisation. No one introduced themselves as the instructor, kids were just left to migrate together til somobe came out and started the warm up. It was labelled as an event for all abilities, but quite clearly it was for those with plenty of experience. I only saw one instructor so was confused as to how tuition was being provided to such a large group. It was clearly trials and should have been labelled as such and more staff would've made it a learning experience. We weren't the only parents left to fend for ourselves on the kiddie slope.

Thank you for your feedback, and I'm sorry you felt that the session needed more organisation. The event is for all abilities but there is a minimum standard as stated on the booking page that was accessed in order to book your son onto the session. You did sign your son up for a schools race league session where it clearly states on the booking page that participants Must be able to ski the main slope in control and use the drag lift unaided. As you say, this was due to your son over stating his ability.
Perhaps you mistakenly believed that you had signed up to a ski lesson?
The event is for all abilities but there is a minimum standard as stated on the booking page that was accessed in order to book your son onto the session.
Two coaches were on hand for the entire session to give coaching and guidance (rather than tuition)
We checked in all on time arrivals in and asked parents/teachers to tale the children out to the slope where we sent them onto the lift and one of our coaches gave them guidance for their warm up.
If I remember correctly, you arrived and your son said that he wasn't sure if he could ski from the top. I suggested that he start by taking the lift to the lowest exit in order to build his confidence. He then made an unsuccessful attempt to get onto the lift, at which point, I offered to assist him but he didn't want to try again. After that, We didn't see him and, it appears, you took in upon yourself to take him onto the adjacent slope.
We had a huge range of abilities at this session from children, snowploughing and taking part in their first of these sessions, having never raced before which were catered for more than adequately, with some good feedback and it's unfortunate that you didn't come to see us at any point after leaving the bottom of the main slope in order to voice the concerns that you've stated in your review.
It's a shame that you didn't do so as it's only possible to do something about these issues if they are broached at the time, rather than afterwards, in an online review, rather than direct email.
We'd be more than happy to welcome your son back but, would advise that he take some lessons or has some practice sessions in order to meet the minimum standard. We are able to help with this, should you require.

Great event and well organized. Only small problem that occurred was one of my children's names was missed off the hoodies that they were selling at the event.
We will hopefully be back next year!
