Nematodes for Box Tree Caterpillars does not work

We purchased the nematodes for box tree moth caterpillars from Green Gardener. Cost £20. Applied as directed three times, we are still picking out caterpillars, 40 yesterday, not done a thing. We had caught it early but the bushes are devastated now. Absolute rubbish. Just a warning to Save you money.

Aphid infested Philadelphus saved by ladybirds

Due to an aphid infested Philadelphus, I ordered SB Invigorator spray, 25 adult ladybirds and 50 larvae which were delivered quickly with clear and easy to use instructions. I emailed Green Gardener with a query and received a swift response with helpful advice. The result has been amazing and I needed very little of the SB spray as the lady birds and larvae saved my shrub. My only issue was that personally, I found it difficult to manage the larvae with the paper bags and next time I will order 100 which come in a cotton release bag with strings which looks easier to attach to the shrub.

Missing bags for ladybird larvae

I ordered a pack of ladybirds and larvae. The ladybirds were all fine but flew off who knows where- but that’s the nature of the product.
The larvae arrived without release bags which makes it very tricky to release 100 larvae and I feel many have been lost/eaten by ants because of this. I emailed Green gardener but they ignored my email. The bags are an essential part of distributing the product and to forgot to pack them is one thing; to ignore request for help quite another. I notice a similar review a week or so ago so maybe they have an ongoing problem. Wouldn’t use again.
After green gardeners response on here I got in touch and they offered to resend or refund. I opted for resending and received a new pack of larvae with release bag. As a bonus they also resent more ladybirds, which is much appreciated. Upgrading rating to 5 star. Things can and do go wrong, but it’s how companies fix it. Many thanks

Hi
We're up to date on all our emails, response time can vary within our operating times (Monday to Friday 9am-3pm) but we usually respond same or next working day. If we haven't already got back to you, feel free to give us a call on 01493 750061 or drop us an email to orders@greengardener.co.uk with your order details and we'll be happy to assist further.
Ants don't eat ladybird larvae, they move them off the aphid infested areas as the ants share a symbiotic relationship with the aphids for the sap they produce. You'll need to deal with the ants (Vaseline or barrier glue perhaps) to help the larvae do their bit.

Hope that helps, we do however wish you well in your future orders elsewhere if you should so decide :)

Best Regards

ladybirds where art thou?

Bought the 100 ladybird larvae, followed the instructions, 2 weeks later, can't see any larvae in the bag, or on the plant and not a single ladybird!
(but now have plenty of aphids)

Thanks for your reply. Interesting that you blame the aphids and try to sell me more products! I checked the bag twice a day, as well as inspect the plant (a small honeysuckle) very closely for any larvae (please don't try and sell me a magnifing glass too) - unless the larvae are 'off doing their thing' on another plant, I am not convinced it worked. I expected to see at least 1 ladybird by now. Am resorting to bug spray as plants now infested. Harumph!

ok, i'll hold off on the bug spray for now. Still sceptical. Until i spot a larvae or ladybird, i'll believe i paid £17.99 for some shredded paper! (however, if i do spot either i'll add more stars).

Hi Ren
The ladybird larvae will be off doing what they do naturally, there is presently a lot of aphids about this year we hear.

It sounds like your aphid infestation is breeding quicker than the ladybird larvae can eat them. If your only relying on the ladybirds appetite to be enough it sounds like you'll need a lot more ladybirds to tip the food chain balance in your favour.

Alternatives are spot treating with soapy water/Sb Invigorator or introducing lacewing larvae (theses are used commercially and a lot more effective).

Hope that helps :)

*Update* The biology of aphids is quite complex and lends itself to rapid multiplication and dispersal. Most species are all female, do not need to mate and rarely lay eggs. Instead first instar nymphs are born and begin feeding almost immediately. Aphids multiply quickly, so it may take a combination of methods as well as repeated efforts to completely control them.
Please note, using pesticide spray as you suggested will also kill the ladybirds. *update*

Condescending customer service …

Ordered a family pack of ladybirds and larvae. Incomplete package as no bags provided for larvae release! some ladybirds were already dead!! In desperation we used our own envelopes Lost all the larvae as the envelopes we attached to the trees were the wrong size! phone calls not returned despite answer machine saying leave a message. Customer service awful. Would rather spend hours writing several emails to us explaining why everything was our fault and not theirs as it was a bank holiday. Condescending! Not taking any responsibility for incomplete package. Claimed not to have received our phone calls until we sent a copy of our phone log ! Claimed to see lots of larvae “running around” in video we sent showing just two larvae moving ! It’s never about the money or a refund . It’s always about how the company treat you ! We were first time customers. we have a mini orchard and allotment ! Could’ve been life long customers. It’s a big fat NO from us !!
Ps the missing envelopes were offered to us AFTER we had already told them that the larvae had all been blown away !!!! A partial Reimbursement was offered for 5/6 dead ladybirds IF we had kept the dead ladybirds as proof !!!! Some of them had fallen into the grass !

Hi Mimi

Thanks for the feedback, we always appreciate an honest review.

Although we did apologise for the packing error and offered to send the missing envelopes you refused that and a reimbursement offer.

The instructions we include are a guide, your choice of alternative application methods during windy conditions respectfully was your own choice and not our responsibility. No proof of dead ladybirds was supplied and the order wasn't returned to us due to it being wrong in any way.

As stated the phone log shows no calls made to us with the number you supplied at the time, when you supplied a different number your calls to us were outside our business hours, again respectfully there’s nothing we can do if you contact us outside of these times, the soonest we would have got back to you because of the bank holiday was Tuesday which we did via email promptly.

We are unable to meet your expectations and we wish you well with which ever new supplier you decide to use in the future :)

Best Regards

Total waste of £50 and they don't allow negative reviews

Spent £50 on adult ladybirds, larvae and a ladybird barn. Complete waste of money. Followed instructions exactly as stated. The adult ladybirds were alive, but disappeared after a few days. The larvae looked dead on arrival, but I thought they were dormant, so I still placed them on the tree in the paper bags provided. 4 weeks on: zero activity and the tree is still aphid-infested. I left 1-star reviews on their website and they did not publish them. BUYER BEWARE!
EDIT FOLLOWING REPLY:
The 'husks' that you mention would have been visible and confirmation of activity were THE ONLY THINGS in the plastic boxes, nothing else alive or dead.

Hi there
The ladybirds will be off doing what they do naturally, there is presently a lot of aphids about this year we hear.

The 'dead larvae' you noticed will be the husks produced as they undergo several molts as they go through their development stages, transforming into a pupa before emerging as an adult ladybird. This is proof of life working as intended.

It sounds like your aphid infestation is breeding quicker than the ladybird larvae can eat them. If your only relying on the ladybirds appetite to be enough it sounds like you'll need a lot more ladybirds to tip the food chain balance in your favour.

Great products, efficient customer service

I had ordered from them before and they have a great product selection. I made a mistake when placing the order and it went to my neighbour, who refused the delivery. When the order arrived back at their warehouse a refund was processed, the customer service was efficient if not the frendliest - but at least there's a person replying and they're relatively easy to get hold of. Their ladybug larvae are good value for money and they have a good selection of non-chemical pest control.

This order had the wrong postcode on it, hence the delivery issues. The first order was refunded as a goodwill gesture, the second order also had the wrong details and is still on its way back to us, as per our emails we'll be in contact again when it's returned again :)

Purchased 2 x Solar Outdoor Pest…

Purchased 2 x Solar Outdoor Pest Repeller.

The product has 2 positive reviews on the website. My negative review submitted a couple of weeks ago has failed to appear.

The pest repellers I purchased do not repel. Targeted animals are not deterred one little bit.

Save your money.

Far too quick for a review

Far too quick for a review. Bees have yet to hatch from cocoons. Vague idea when they would have been dispatched.
Positive instructions on receipt. When I placed them as advised, wild bees fling around them. Are they a threat to larvae.
