What I love about Xiaogua Chinese is that it gives you the opportunity to actually use all that vocabulary and grammar you’ve spent so much time learning!

Learning Chinese from textbooks is one thing, but being able to put it into practice in real conversations is something completely different. Xiaogua gives you that opportunity, helping you become more confident and comfortable speaking Chinese in a way that’s much closer to real life.

Another thing I really love is the people you meet. The classes bring together people from all over the world, so you’re not just learning about Chinese language and culture, but also about the lives, experiences and cultures of your classmates. For me, that makes it so much more interesting!

We all come from different backgrounds, and although we’re different in many ways, we’re also surprisingly similar. And we all have one thing in common — we want to improve our Chinese!

I’d also like to give a special mention to Mengmeng, my one-on-one teacher, whose patience, encouragement and ability to keep me motivated are really appreciated, especially on those days when I feel like my Chinese isn’t improving! And of course, a big thank-you to Yuanyuan, Sarina and Luna, who all make the classes so enjoyable and interesting.

The teachers are lovely, the conversations are interesting, and you get to meet some awesome people along the way.

I’d definitely recommend Xiaogua to anyone who wants to take their Chinese beyond the textbook and actually start using it!

To say I'm obsessed would be accurate. This program is seriously so much fun and I am picking up on so many new words. I feel so much more confident speaking and, somehow all of this is allowing me to remember grammar structures I’ve learned but haven't used often. I'm so grateful and happy.

Xiaogua Chinese excells in helping students gain conversational Chinese. They use a variety of methods including leveled videos, small group discussion, and one-on-one sessions. This is a great place to learn and practice Chinese within a global community!

I ❤️ Xiaogua Chinese!

I honestly love the way Xiaogua teaches Chinese! I've been with them for a while now. The comprehensible input method just makes so much sense to me. You learn by listening, understanding and engaging with the language, rather than spending hours working through textbooks until your brain is fried! 😂 It makes learning so much more enjoyable.

Another thing I love is that all the teachers embrace this approach. Between my 1-on-1 lessons and small group classes, I get to learn from different teachers, each with their own personality and style, and also other students. It keeps things interesting, and I think being exposed to different teachers is a real bonus when learning a language.

I’ve spent the most time learning with Luna, but also had lots of lessons with Zhifei, Min Min, Sasa and Fan Fan, and they are all absolutely wonderful! They make the classes fun, engaging and something I genuinely look forward to every time.

Honestly, each time I travel to China my colleagues and I can literally hear the difference! I don't think there is anything more inspiring to keep learning.

If you’re thinking about learning Chinese, I can’t recommend Xiaogua enough!

I think Xiaogua is well-organized and professional in their approach to language-learning. There is a clear plan, and I appreciated that. All the tutors I interacted with were kind and professional, with clear goals.

I spent a year with Xiaogua and went into it with what I figured were fairly modest goals, just to be able to talk about my work with more ease and confidence. I studied Chinese through high school and college with pretty stagnant progress, only entering Xiaogua at an advanced beginner level. Throughout that year I found myself falling in love with the language all over again, my one and one teacher, group teachers, and classmates all making for an exceptional experience. I felt comfortable, supported and interesting in every conversation we had and managed to finish the program at an advanced level. Truly a worthwhile experience for any Chinese language learner.

Not worth the fees. Majority of lesson time are in group classes and didn’t benefit me in the least bit. Could have spent 1/3 of the cost for a one on one tutor. Also being on a different time zone causes a lot of scheduling conflicts.

I understand the study/learning methods they are encouraging but I feel like it’s extremely overpriced.

I’ve had many different tutors and studying experiences and this would rate below good on my language learning experiences.

If you already know some Chinese and you’re looking to refresh and/or expand vocabulary this isn’t the one.

With Xiaogua Chinese I've gotten further in 8 months than I did in the previous 5+ years with Mandarin apps. When I started, I could understand some things but barely speak. My confidence now is so much higher and I'm way less afraid of making mistakes. I have definitely learned a ton; I can actually have conversations with native Chinese speakers who know very little English with few problems.
The quality of teachers with Xiaogua are excellent, the content is always high-quality, and my 1-on-1 teacher Sarina has absolutely been the key to my success. Your teachers make sure what you're learning is relevant to you individually and they can coach you on anything you want to learn. I'd recommend them to anyone.

I’ve been learning Chinese at Xiaogua Chinese for about a year now, and honestly, I really enjoy it! I really like the CI method because it works super well for me and makes learning Chinese feel much more natural.

I also love that there are both 1-on-1 classes and small group discussions, so I get lots of chances to practice speaking. I’ve also met so many people from different backgrounds, made new friends, and got to share our experiences with each other.

Overall, it’s been such a fun experience learning Chinese here! Definitely recommend Xiaogua if you want to learn Chinese in a fun and supportive environment!

I am learning with Xiaogua Chinese for about 5 weeks and I am totally stunned. I made a huge Progress in speaking . I really enjoy joining the group classes . The comprehensive material they provide is very good and also very interesting , studying it does not feel like learning. I get more my more confident in speaking Chinese .

Learning Chinese with Xiaogua Chinese is simply amazing!

Compared to other HSK 3 standard courses, which might be good for learning how to read, write and use grammar structures, Xiaogua Chinese really has their strength in getting language learners into fluency. Their way of teaching has a strong emphasis on frequently used words, with the option of receiving vocabulary lists for your flashcard app additionally. This way you will be able to maintain basic vocab while adding more and more new vocabulary, as you get to talk about new topics in your classes.

What really stands out for me is the great level of customer centricity. I had a bigger schedule change because of mandatory civilian services in my home country and Xiaogua Chinese straight up changed the schedule according to mine (even if there were other students), within a week. This allowed me to take part in as many classes and lessons as I used to take part, even if some of the desks my teachers sit at are on the other side of the world. Expected issues with time difference etc. have been diminished immediately!

I have been having an amazing time at Xiaogua Chinese, which is not only a language learning program, but a fun community and a strong network of striving cosmopolitans in various branches.

If you're sceptical, get a monthly membership and give it a try. For me Xiaogua has skyrocketted my Chinese. Many thanks to my teachers Yuan Yuan, Xica, Luna and Jiuhan too:)

I have been studying Chinese for a month and the immersion definitely works as phrases and words are in my head now. I dont feel pressure of memorisation and the visuals and repetitive words are a big help.

After 18 months of self study, I had reached a plateau. Not sure how to continue and I felt a bit stuck.
This has been exactly what I needed to get back on track with a solid learning plan. If I had the budget, I would absolutely continue my learning with Xiaogua Chinese. However, the tools I've been given during this time have been amazing, and I'm excited to see where the next 18 months of study can take me.

I LOVE XIAOGUA CHINESE!

I'm probably biased since I've been with them for more than a year, and have chosen to continue studying with xiaogua chinese.

If you're looking for something less traditional than studying from textbooks, super structured learning, then xiao gua is it. It's a program that's particularly geared towards learning passive vocabulary and then integrating it so it becomes active vocabulary through repeated exposure and speaking it out loud with your 1:1 lessons and small groups.

This type of program requires you to really dig deep and draw on internal motivation to get as much out of it as you can. At first, learning chinese feels overwhelming but trust the process and you'll progress so much.

With a month of use so far, I've gone from listening to Advanced Beginner to Intermediate level !

The "goal progress" bar also does a good job persuading me to clock a full 30 minutes (sometimes I'm tempted to quit early after one 15 minute intermediate video, but the progress bar nudges me to finish my time (I choose Advanced Beginner and Lower Intermediate episodes).

I do still listen to the "easier" levels. With "Advanced Beginner", I challenge myself to only watch the video and not follow the Chinese character script.
This is a very good program of videos! The variety of speakers also helps against "fatigue" (not watching the same person talk for 30 minutes / day forever).

I also study Japanese, but the material I use for Japanese is "scattershot" across YouTube making it more difficult to find. 1) I must search for the Japanese videos on YouTube 2) I must interpret what level the video probably is 3) and I must deal with YouTube ads.

To close the review, I will say I was already "Advanced Beginner" level in Chinese, but that was primarily in reading Chinese with extremely poor listening comprehension. Xiaogua Chinese has enabled me to advance from needing Chinese subtitles even for raw beginner spoken Chinese to being able to follow Intermediate-level conversation by ear after about a month (of daily listening for 30 minutes / day).

I’ve been studying with Xiaogua Chinese for a month and I’ve improved my speaking a lot! The program gave me a lot of confidence in my speaking ability. Before joining the program, I had been learning Chinese on and off for years without a proper method or goal. The teachers and materials of Xiaogua helped me focus on specific topics and just speak without thinking too much. I also really like the fact that you can communicate with other learners from all over the world which makes you realise you are not alone. It’s a costly program, but you definitely improve a lot even with low effort (I’m a rather lazy person myself) and a lot of useful materials are curated for you. I’d like to thank my 1:1 teacher Yuanyuan for her great help and patience with me 😊

I generally like the course, but could appreciate a little more structure.

The introductory coaching call was very helpful. We assessed my Chinese level and Oskar gave me advice on my current learning approach as well as free resources to leverage to add more structure to my learning. As an intermediate level Chinese learner, I stilled gained a lot of knowledge from understanding how important consistency and repetition is in my approach. My biggest takeaway is that intentional practice of learning words at my level is better than just exposing myself to the language.
