I had to call to make sure I was completing it correctly I would advice to do that when completing

I think maybe the forms should have this written above each box
Ie: name that you was born with ?

I would give 5 for the overall experience how ever I can imagine that people would complete it incorrectly if they don’t call first and get the instructions above.
Also I was charged a price and paid after completing the form correctly and then received another email saying that I needed to pay more due to the case being complex. I think this was not good either as this should have been priced all in from the beginning.

However, we do need to correct a key point. You contacted us on 02/08/2025 explaining your situation, which involved multiple previous name changes. We responded with clear instructions on how to complete the form correctly, and provided you with a quote in advance.
We specifically advised that an additional £18 fee would apply due to the complexity of preparing a document reflecting multiple name changes. This was explained to you before you applied.
You then chose to proceed and submitted your application on 19/03/2026.
Our standard form is designed for straightforward name changes. Where a case is more complex, we always explain the process and any additional cost in advance — which is exactly what happened here.

Shocking… I applied for a copy of me…
Shocking… I applied for a copy of me deed poll certificate from when my name was changed as a child and they said they were unable to find it? Also then said that I’d need to pay for them to look into it further or apply for a new one. The fees I’d already paid were for searches only. This wasn’t made clear when I purchased the item online. Please do not use them.

Dear Carla,
You paid to search our archives in order to obtain certified copies of your Deed Poll from when you were a child. We only keep Deed Polls in our archives that we issued previously and the customer paid extra at the time of ordering (and posted their signed deed poll back to us) to store in our Archives.
The very first sentence of the order form (https://www.deedpoll.org.uk/apply-for-a-copy-of-your-archived-deed-poll) states: "If you returned your signed Deed Poll to us for archiving – as part of our Legal Copy and Archive Service – we can issue further legal copies from our archives."
It also clearly states at the start of the second paragraph of the order form: "Please note, the £14 fee you initially pay is to search our archives and records. If your Deed Poll is not in our archives, you can ask us to issue you with a replacement, in which case the £14 you paid will be used towards the fee for your replacement Deed Poll. If you do not require a replacement Deed Poll, the £14 is non-refundable." We do not understand how you can state "this wasn't made clear when I purchased the item online."
It transpires that your Deed Poll from your childhood was never ordered from us in the first place, so we wouldn't have a copy of it in our archives, as was made clear in the first sentence of the order form. As stated above and on our website, you can put the £14 search fee towards the cost of a new Deed Poll (so you don't lose any money on a fruitless search) as proof of a former name change. We are the only Deed Poll company that keeps archives of signed Deed Polls we have issued. There is no other archive for you to get a copy from, so you would have to purchase a new Deed Poll anyway, assuming you require proof of a previous name change.
We are sorry to hear you failed to understand what you were ordering.

Why am I receiving emails from you to…
Why am I receiving emails from you to say I need another deed poll certificate for my now adult children? They double barrelled their surnames 10 years ago and according to the government website a deed poll is valid until you die or decide to change it!

You received that email from a scam company that uses the website deedpolls.org. That is not us. You are correct that you don't need a new deed doll.
They have recently started a new scam by emailing all of their previous customers like you who purchased a Child deed poll from them in the past, and are now trying to convince you that you need an Adult deed poll. This is incorrect and they are trying to scam you.
Please check the email address that sent you the scam email, and you will notice it wasn't from us (we are deedpoll.org.uk). If it's not too much to ask, can you please remove this review from our TrustPilot page and place it on theirs? It's important the public knows they are a scam.
