Bad Management in Madrid

Absolutely horrible experience. The apartment itself is fine but the management was horrible. The walls are thin and you can hear everything in the rooms next door, which I guess is the norm in Spain from what I've heard. Even though in their long contract it says to abide by their "rules" which includes no making noise after 10pm. For my entire stay, the person next door talked on the phone until 2am every night, and management only tried to do something after I complained 3 times which was almost 2 months after my original complaint. (Edit: I know this because although Marta did reply asking me which unit it was, she did not reply again after that and the noise persisted, then I tried to contact her again about the problem a few weeks later, and the noise persisted again. Two weeks before I left, I couldn't help but try to contact her again because nothing changed at all. Then she finally asked me what language they were speaking (very obvious that she did not actually locate and contact my neighbours before, hence your claim that it was addressed immediately does not stand) , presumably to identify the tenant, and the day after that the noise immediately stopped. And no they did not move away because I could still hear them during the day. It's interesting how you try to say that the problem was addressed immediately, as if one simple reply to my first message = solving the problem.) When the lightbulb in my room was broken it took them 10 days to fix it (Edit: I checked again and i actually took 19 days to get it fixed), and the first time they came, they looked around in the kitchen and left, saying all the lights worked, while I repeatedly told Marta (the person in charge of Madrid) that it was the light in my room that didn't work. Most importantly, when we left, Marta kept on insisting that there was supposed to be a painting in one of the rooms, and that the foot blankets in both rooms are missing, when I've never seen that in the apartment, nor do I know what she is referring to. However judging by the other 'paintings' in the apartment, she must be referring to a framed black and white photograph of a bycicle. After multiple attempts of telling her that we did not steal anything, she charged us over 100 euros for the "painting" and foot blaneks combined and I think that is absurd. But it's hard to not believe the missing of the painting and foot blankets was not orchestrated from the beginning, but it also might have been an honest mistake. (Edit: You say that you always check the apartments before check-in, but that is evidently a lie because you did not check anything before I checked in.)

Marta absolutely sucks at her job and does not bother to do anything for her tenants. She refuses to communicate and replies after several days when it is her primary job. I really don't know how she got this job and how she is not fired yet. (Edit: Judging by the complete lack of accountability in the reply to this review, I don't question how she got this job anymore, since lack of accountability seems to be the standard at cotown.)

So Marta, if you see this, learn to do your job properly and I hope you are enjoying the money you took from me after you find the foot blankets and the framed picture in your storage. (Edit: I apologise and take back my message to Marta, because by reading the other organic comments here, others seem to have faced similar issues with the blatant money grabbing at departure, so it might not have been Marta's personal problem, but Cotown's issue. However, my complaints about the quality of her service still stands.)

And please, 24/7 attention and efficient management? That's laughable at best. Try 6 hours a day 5 days a week, if you're lucky...

Almost forgot something very important. They initially tried to overcharge me 70 somthing euros for rent on their system, as the rent and deposit amount was normal the first time I checked, but mysteriously increased by 70 something euros a few days before my first month's rent and deposit was due. Thankfully they changed it back after I confronted them about it, even though they pretended not to know what I was talking about at first.

First of all, we will ask you for a bit of respect towards our team, specially knowing that we are recognized for our 24/7 attention and efficient management. Fortunately, we know how to do our job.
As per the evidences we have, the noise complaint was addressed immediately. However, it probably had its effect gradually.
In reference to what was charged to you, please note that we always check the apartments and rooms before a new check-in, so it's not possible that something disappears by "mistake".

I have been a residence with the…

I have been a residence with the company for 3 years. I continued to persit with the company due to the service they had been providing and I was happy with it, but things started falling apart, and especially with the change in their customer service. Been charged multiple times even when they had nothing to do with, and for the inconveniences I have had caused by them as a company have many to be considered a coincidence, but not once I was refunded, just apologise. But been the first charge and carry the cases terribly.

We regret that you have this perception of our customer service, we just try to act according to the contract.
You have many ways of reporting the initial state of the room; if this is not done and at the end of your stay there are damages, you should take responsibility on them.

Bad experience, feeling scammed

Flat was very nice, but this is sadly overshadowed by the bad experience I had with Cotown throughout the stay. They came up with the most ridiculous reasons to charge us extra fees on top of the already high rent and “entry fee”. They charge a “final cleaning fee” of 75€ but my room was not cleaned before I moved in. My biggest regret was not taking pictures of my room before I left: I was accused of spray painting a wall and they took 100€ off my deposit for it.
Cotown went to absurd lengths to take money out of my pocket and I would not rent with them again.

I would recommend Cotown

Would recommend Cotown, I have had a great experience with them here I Barcelona. Will especially praise their customer service, they are helpful and most importantly replay and fix any eventual problem quickly. Overall a good experience even though, in my opinion, the apartments and the equipment are in need of a little more love.

Carísimo para lo que ofrecen

Sólo las habitaciones más caras tienen luz natural, el resto dan a la escalera (ni siquiera al patio de luces) por lo que la ventilación es nula.
La limpieza bisemanal deja mucho que desear, especialmente tras el cambio de compañía, pues no limpian con ninguna profundidad y la casa queda casi igual que como estaba.
Luego el servicio 24h es inexistente y a la mínima que la situación se complica ni aparecen. Cuando me fui llevábamos 3 meses con una gotera en el baño y una hamaca rota. Además de pedir por activa y por pasiva un juego de cuchillos que nunca dieron (no, no quiero 5 cuchillos cerámicos de diferentes tamaños cada uno para un uso, quiero muchos cuchillos normales con los que los 5 compañeros podamos pasar el día sin ir pidiendo turno para usar los pocos que hay que corten,no los de mantequilla).
El piso está bien para pasar unos días o un par de semanas máximo porqué, aunque lo hayan reformado, el precio que se paga por los servicios que ofrece y las carencias de equipamiento hacen que la relación calidad-precio sea pésima.

Nos gustaría mencionar que los precios y características de cada habitación son indicados previo a la confirmación de la reserva. Cada cual puede decidir si le interesa reservar y qué opción se ajusta más a sus necesidades.

Todas nuestras habitaciones cuentan con ventilación, pues de lo contrario no dispondríamos de la cédula de habitabilidad.

Nos sorprende que comentes que nuestra atención es nula. Hemos revisado tu caso, y a 2 días de solicitar los cuchillos y sartenes, ya los teníais disponibles en el apartamento. Nos reportase el incidente que te ocurrió con la hamaca a 1 mes de tu salida, y desconocemos por completo que hubiese una gotera en el baño, especialmente teniendo en cuenta que nuestro equipo de mantenimiento lleva a cabo revisiones de los apartamentos de forma recurrente.

Desafortunadamente nos confunde que digas que nuestros apartamentos son solo para pasar unos días o semanas, pues tú te quedaste 10 meses con nosotros.

Lamentablemente, no compartimos tu punto de vista. No obstante, seguiremos trabajando para mejorar.

Fue una experiencia increíble, los coordinadores me ayudaron ante cualquier duda, el piso es muy bonito y moderno con todo lo que necesitaba. La habitación muy bonita y los compañeros de piso eran geniales, hicimos una familia :).
