I feel so glad and lucky to have been treated by such an excellent doctor. I have had a severe case of keratitis which two doctors that I visited before could not diagnose and treat properly. My vision from my left eye was so bad I literarily could not see anything, as my vision was so blurry. Once I visited Alex he made me feel very comfortable and absolutely felt from the first second that I was in safe hands. Although the diagnosis was almost instant (I think this is due to his vast experience in treating similar cases), he did spent a lot of time on examining me. He prescribed me a detailed medication including eye drops and tablets which I took for a whole month. After a month I visited Alex for a follow up appointment. Keratitis had gone for good. I have now had an eye test and a new prescription. After treatment and with the new eyeglasses on I can now see better than ever before. I give Dr Alex Shortt my highest recommendation.

I had been considering refractive lens exchange surgery for presbyopia for several years. Having been discouraged by the commercial approach of a certain high street provider, I researched other possible clinics and was impressed with the Optegra website and online reviews. I attended an Open Evening where Alex presented a clear and honest appraisal of all the risks and benefits of both RLE and laser surgery and I immediately felt I had found someone I could trust with my eyesight! From my initial consultation through to the operation itself and excellent post-op follow-up, I have been struck by the professionalism and dedication of the entire team and would recommend Optegra and Mr Shortt to anyone considering these procedures.

Alex Shortt and his team provide an excellent service. Everything from side effects to expectations are discussed well in advance. The operation is painless and short and Alex gives you every confidence that although these days it is a relatively common form of surgery, he cares about your eyes. Everyone I met at Optegra was courteous and well informed. I'm glad to say I now have 20:20 vision and have consigned my many sets of specs to the recycling bin.

I am pleased with my multi focal lens surgery. Very helpful and friendly staff . Explained how they were going carry out the procedure. During surgery I was comfortable and pain free. I was able to see shortly.The After care service is is excellent. Couldn’t ask for any more. Though I still see hallow(circles). Advices will settle in a few weeks .

Alex has achieved what other consultants said was not possible or did not feel able to tackle. I had IOLs fitted incorrectly 5 years ago, I have had 5 previous procedures by other consultants to try to correct this, all failed. The result was that when I visited Alex I had not driven, read a book, watched tv or been able to cross the road safely for 5 years. I had two lenses in my left eye which Alex removed and replaced with a correct lens in the correct position. I knew from seeing other consultants that after 5 years this was a very difficult procedure. Alex was supportive, clearly explained the procedure and contingency plans if his preferred option was not safely achievable. The operation was more than an hour but he explained what he was doing throughout, there was no pain and I could see the care he took. Cannot recommend him high enough if you want a safe and skilled eye consultant. I wish I had found him years ago.

My prescription was not as it should have been for after care and the operation has now made me much more short sighted than it should have done.
The staff are all very friendly and the clinic is good. Be sure you really want to risk the sight you have before you have surgery.

cautious at first in regard to having both eyes treated at the same time - however the results are amazing as I now feel that my eyes are back to how they were in my teens- both long distance and close vision have improved incredibly well. i have every trust in Mr Short and how the operation was conducted

I cannot recommend Mr Shortt highly enough. Very organised and gets back to you quickly with any questions you have. Is very thorough in his explanations and makes you feel at ease before surgery. Surgery was quick and the results were brilliant. Aftercare was top notch as well.

After a disappointment following NHS treatment for cataracts, finding Mr Shortt and Optegra was like finding a door to heaven!
I was very depressed when I first came to Optegra and was unsure if my sight could be corrected or improved but after an in depth talk with Mr Shortt, I felt there was hope and the YAG corrective surgery was performed on the same day as my consultation. I'm very happy with the result, I had cataract surgery performed on my other eye after two months later, that is when I really saw the difference between the NHS and Optegra. The team treating me made sure I was as relaxed and as comfortable as I could be, I was informed every step of the way as to what was happening, I didn't feel rushed, also I felt if I had any concerns when I got home, that I had instant access to a team member for advice. very happy customer!

I had LASIK done 2 weeks ago and it was the best decision ever! The procedure was very quick, painless and the result was instant. Dr Alex Shortt was very competent and easy to talk to. He’s calm, knowledgeable and a charming person. During the procedure Dr Shortt explained what he was doing every step of the way. This really made me feel at ease and reassured throughout. He made the whole procedure very simple.

Mr Alex Shortt is one of a rare breed; someone who you instinctively know from the first time you meet them that you’ll be in safe hands.

During my first consultation Mr Shortt carried out various tests on my eyes and then explained in great detail what options were open to me. Although I was very nervous at the thought of having the procedure, his manner was extremely reassuring and his professionalism and obvious honesty made me feel that I could trust him completely.

My trust in him was justified. I had a fully developed cataract in each eye. Mr Shortt removed these and replaced them with toric lens implants. Throughout the procedure, Mr Shortt explained exactly what he was doing and what I was experiencing which put me at ease and made an enormous psychological difference.

The results were amazing. I can say in all honesty that not for one moment did I think that this surgery would change my lifestyle completely. But it did and I no longer need either distance or reading glasses. If anyone is reading this in an attempt to find the very best eye surgeon, they need look no further. And, as a bonus, he has a wonderful PA in the name of Katie.
