This company sells dangerous vehicles

Wen to compact cars as I believe to they were a reputable company. Initially the process was easy helped with setting up finance and got me a car under 10 years old. Friday 29th may I went to the dealership to collect the car with my son.
I told them on buying the car that due to serious ill health and two children one who autistic and the other type1 diabetic, I needed a reliable car.
I part ex my car with small amount of finance left to pay this was suppose to be settled.
They assured me the car was given a MOT and a great car. I trusted them BIG MISTAKE!
29th I drove off the fore court to have warning light for low air pressure. Put in Diesel 30 quid and put air in no tyres had dust caps I bought them message compact cars and told if air pressure was still low Monday bring it back. Already having a feeling something wasn’t right. I drove five minutes up the road to Asda. Went in did a shop on leaving I realised there was an issue with the throttle. As we made the turn towards the lights I said to my son I’m going to have to drive back in to Asda using only couch power as we turned completely failed throttle no brakes or steering. If this was on a motor way the likelihood of a major smash was high. I dread to think! I was upset rang Louie, who asked me if I was a member of AA and use them to sort the car! Reluctantly I did as I was stranded in Bridgend car boot full of shopping and my son who type1. Two hours wait for the aa who were brilliant. He tried to sort it but said it had suffered a catastrophic failure and wasn’t safe to drive. This cost me another £75 as my part ex car was on the policy. I then had to be towed from Asda back to compact cars.
I was told mechanic don’t work weekends so would have to wait. In the meantime I looked up my rights as I had this car less than a hour. I didn’t have faith in them or the car as this had supposedly had a new mot. Over the weekend decision was made I wanted a full refund and my 1000 deposit and part ex car. I ended up going down Monday even though they were trying to stall me having it all back. Sunday evening I had a email from my part ex car finance company saying I had a 131 payment due. So thinking they had not paid the settlement I rang them and paid the 275.80 myself. Making my part ex car legally mine.
Compact cars had no financial claim to my car. When I went down Monday even though I’d spoken to the new financial company and asked for the agreement to be unwound and an invoice sent to compact cars Dean told me not to come to the dealership. Even though they had my car my 1000 pound and the faulty car.
I wasn’t leaving without my car and money. He didn’t know I had paid the finances settlement myself. I waited to inform him as I had a feeling he was on the computer trying to pay it to make it more difficult for me to have a refund. I’m still out the 75 pound towing fee the 30 petrol and the inconvenience caused and stress. Safe to say I left with my car and 1099 refund.
I think they think a women on her own is stupid and can be conned.
He had the audacity to ask me for a good review on here or trust pilot.
Do not use this company the failure on this car could have killed me and my child. I have all the paper work from the AA with diagnostic codes that a wrong throttle cable was fitted and it failed. They don’t care about safety. It’s not a risk I was willing to make. Never again would I recommend this dealership. BE Warned

We’re very surprised to read this review, as the situation on the day was handled professionally and ended calmly. You initially left us a positive 4 star review before later removing it, which reflected how the interaction actually concluded.

When you arrived, your friend/neighbour was verbally aggressive towards our staff, but after she apologised the conversation became constructive, and we all shook hands before you left. You were given the choice of a repair or a refund, and it was actually us who recommended the refund so you could be back on the road quickly in your part exchange vehicle rather than waiting for workshop availability.

To clarify the facts: you received a full refund, including the £99 admin fee which is normally non refundable, and your part exchange vehicle was returned to you because this is required as part of a finance unwind. We also re taxed your previous vehicle for you at our own cost so you could drive it away legally. The only reason you were advised not to come down immediately was because we were waiting for the finance company to issue the invoice required to release the funds back — this is standard procedure and completely outside our control. This is also why you were in our sales office for some time, as we were waiting for First Response to send the necessary documentation so we could process your refund correctly.

We work closely with First Response Finance every day and have an excellent relationship with them. They specialise in supporting customers who may need additional help with their credit, and we value the trust they place in us to handle these situations properly. As soon as they confirmed the unwind and issued the invoice, we processed everything immediately and exactly as required.

We understand the situation was stressful, but the version of events described here does not reflect what happened at the dealership. We acted promptly, fairly, and in line with all legal requirements, ensuring you were fully refunded and back on the road the same day.

Great Service and quality vehicles to suit all budgets.

We have bought several vehicles from Compact Cars and Vans over the years and have always found the service excellent. The staff are knowledgeable, and friendly and nothing is too much trouble.

We have always been impressed not just with the service but also the quality of the vehicles we’ve had.

So much so we are now on our second generation, with our son purchasing his first 2 cars from Compact too.

Fab team, fantastic service and quality vehicles at a great price with loads to choose from !

Fantastic experience

Fantastic experience purchasing a used car with Luis! Wasn't pushy at all, gave me plenty of time to look about and left me to it. Will continue going back to Compact Cars for new cars

Bought a 9 seater Vivaro and collected it within a week. Walked us through financial procedures and made it easy to understand. Worked with us on timeline and even came in on their day off on the Saturday to finish final paperwork with us. Whole family has bought most of there cars from Compact Cars and have had great results. Will come again for future cars with family and friends.

We purchased a BMW from Compact Cars on…

We purchased a BMW from Compact Cars on 25 March, and within days it became clear the vehicle had serious faults. What started as a simple battery issue turned into major repairs totalling around £1,700, with the car deemed unsafe to drive.

We contacted the dealer but were told there would be a three-week wait just for inspection, which wasn’t practical as we rely on the car daily. We had no choice but to carry out the repairs ourselves. The car had been in their possession for over a month before sale, so these issues should have been identified—especially as they claimed it had been serviced and had an MOT.

They refused to even look at photo evidence of the faults and repairs, and instead insisted on taking the car back for yet another attempt to fix it.
UPDATE: as of 6th of may we received Over £800 towards cost of the work after compact cars done nothing but mess my wife around told her it would take them two days rang in third days dean the after sales manager there is no after sales just lies after lies 2 days turn in to 6 days and then when he did respond he then passed the buck to the finance company who paid out less then 24hrs later.shocking company don’t go near that crossland either something definitely wrong with the wiring constantly required new lights when we had it for just over a year and the fuel economy on it is shocking crossland reg Cu67xrd stay well clear it will cost you a pretty penny light replacement and fuel! Dodgy cars and 100% dodgy company couldn’t give two sh*ts about the safety of there cars all they want is the money and your done for after that! Very good at sales if you want learn how to fleece someone these are the guys who do it best

We’re genuinely sorry to hear that you feel this way, and we’re glad the finance company were able to support you quickly — we work closely with them and have a very good relationship, which is why many customers with adverse credit are referred to us for help.

However, we do need to clarify a few important points for accuracy.

The vehicle left us with a brand‑new MOT with no advisories, carried out by an independent third‑party testing station, along with our own pre‑delivery inspection. At the point of sale, there were no recorded safety concerns.

When issues were later raised, we offered to collect the vehicle at no cost and inspect it immediately. Under the Consumer Rights Act, the supplying dealer must be given the opportunity to inspect and diagnose any reported faults before repairs are carried out elsewhere.

As discussed in our recorded telephone conversation with both you and your partner, the process was clearly explained, including the legal requirement for us to inspect the vehicle first. You were advised not to proceed with external repairs until we had inspected it, yet you still went ahead.

Unfortunately, the repairs were completed by a third‑party garage before we were allowed to see the vehicle. By doing so, our legal right to inspect and verify the issues was removed, which meant we could not authorise or reimburse work that we had not seen, assessed, or approved. This was also confirmed by the finance company's dealer support team.

Despite this, and despite not being given the opportunity to inspect the car beforehand, you still received over £800 towards the costs — paid by the finance company, who we work with regularly and have a strong, positive relationship with.

We understand that car issues are frustrating, and we always aim to help wherever possible. But we also have to follow the correct legal process to ensure repairs are assessed properly and safely.

​While the initial car buying process was smooth, the after-sales support has been a major letdown. The warranty and care package pitched at the point of sale do not match the reality. I’ve been promised multiple callbacks regarding ongoing issues, yet I’ve received no communication.
​When trying to book a repair, I was told to leave the car indefinitely with no estimated timeframe. As a working family with only one vehicle for school runs and work, "we'll let you know when it's ready" isn't a viable solution. The lack of empathy for the customer’s logistics is disappointing.

Great service

Bought my car from Luis. He was very polite and helpful. As a woman on my own I am not very comfortable in car garages, but he was great, putting me at ease, showing me a selection of cars and not pressuring me to buy at all. I got a car and part exchange on my old car at a price I was happy with. Very happy with his service, and the other salesman that assisted me on pick up day.

Bought a Ford Focus in February

Bought a Ford Focus in February with no service record.Company says they serviced the car. Just paid out £350 for a major service, where I was told nothing had been changed. On top, have another bill for £700 for repairs to bushes and seals.( Should have been picked up in MOT)Also nearly £500 because the Air Con does not work at all.
Not bad for a car that had been apperently had been Mot'd and serviced and only driven 1,500 miles since I bought it.. Tried to contact company twice, went to answer machine, left details but no return call.
Issue has now been put in the hands of Trading Standards

Excellent service

Visited this business, after looking elsewhere and found they had several models of the car we were looking for. Dean was very nice and not at all pushy.
Prices were good and they put a brand new MOT on the car purchased.
I’d highly recommend them.
