The HEB representative, Neil was an excellent communicator and explained the Chip Reverse Mortgage very well. He always made sure we understood all the different aspects and kept in constant contact right up to when we received our funds. He answered messages and phone calls in a timely manner. We would recommend this service to our friends.

Everything was confusing, nothing was clearly explained, and it really seemed like they were trying to push people toward losing their homes instead of helping them keep them. Please be careful and look elsewhere.

Paid attention to my situation and explained step by step how it works. Was like a friend when speaking.

No transparency. Rate they give you is actually wrong as they calculate it per month not per year. Instead of 65.000$ interest in 5 years on 190,000$ loan it will cost 10,000$ EXTRA charge. No explanation. You sign 100 papers BUT NOTHING about full disclosure charges, YOU suppose to call and inquire about miscalculation to discover that their formula is totally different and of course in their favour. Instead of paying 65,000 ? In 5 years, I will have to pay 10,000$ EXTRA as they compound interest on monthly basis. So instead of 6,7% interest it will ACTUALLY be 8% interest!!!

Our mortgage specialist, Holly Hoy, was excellent and answered and explained all our questions and concerns. This type of mortgage was perfect for our situation. With the exception of a couple of computer hiccups it was a relatively smooth process. We thank Holly for her incredible patience.

I did a lot of research before I went ahead with the mortgage. I worked with a great broker who answered all my questions. This is a good option for many people depending on your circumstances. I highly recommend looking into it and not prejudging before you look at all the numbers and options they give you.

At the last minute Equity bank decided to withhold $100,000 from the amount that was approved. This was because I had an arrears on my property tax amount that resulted from EMPAC backdating their assessment by 2 years. I could not pay the reassessed amount, but I did pay my monthly tax bill for 2 years after this exorbitant tax reassessment.
I explained all of this to the agent but his boss would not reconsider the $100,000 withholding.
So on a home valued at $1,840,000 I got a reverse mortgage payment of $200,000 which I think is very unfair.
