Thank you to Natalie and the Caribbean Electives team for organising an amazing medical elective in St Lucia!

I spent 6 weeks on the island, and had an amazing time. There was the perfect balance of placement and free time to explore - and we were so lucky to do a range of activities including going to multiple beaches, climbing the Pitons, and learning about the local Caribbean and Creole culture.

Can’t recommend Natalie and our drivers Sheldon, Dino, Nelson, Kurt, and many others enough for making our stay enjoyable, fun, and safe. They were very friendly and accommodating. They always went above and beyond and were really helpful even when we had questions unrelated to placement (e.g. island hopping).

Thanks to them, I’m already looking forward to going back to St Lucia hopefully in the near future!

I had the most incredible summer in St Lucia this year for my medical elective. Fantastically organised and lovely accommodation. I absolutely fell in love with the island and can’t wait to return!

Perfect mix of interesting placement and beautiful, fun location. 10/10 would recommend to anyone considering an elective in the Caribbean!

This year in August I had the privilege of participating in a global opportunity through Caribbean Elective, and the support I received was nothing short of exceptional.

My whole experience in St. Lucia was amazing, an adventure that I'll cherish forever. The month was a great fusion of academia, culture, and adventure. It allowed me to apply my skills, understand a new culture, and make meaningful connections, all while contributing to a fantastic community.

Caribbean Elective, in partnership with my University, made this global experience amazing. I can't express enough how grateful I am for their dedication to helping students like me seize global opportunities. The memories created and lessons learned during this experience are truly priceless. I wholeheartedly recommend the program with Caribbean Elective.

Wow! what an amazing time in the Caribbean and the beautiful Island of Saint Lucia. Caribbean Elective really made the trip and the work experience a valuable life memory for myself and many others in my cohort. The structuring and organizational skills from representatives of CE were amazing and their hospitality was accommodating and warming. I’d like to give a shout out to Natalie for being our accommodation mother, we all loved and appreciated her. Also would like to big up Shernice for her warm hospitality, and the the main man Karan for his Wisdom and caretaking of the house on a daily basis, I held many good talks with him. The drivers were incredibly sociable (Shell Dong, Brandon, Dino, and Nelson) and made sure we all made it on time to our sessions for Caribbean elective, which in itself allowed us to really understand society and politics in Saint Lucia, with the guidance of the beautiful Jenny (our work mother) 18 year old Sheldon and Senator Dominic Feedee. Would highly recommend for a life changing experience. Saint Lucia and their inhabitants have a close place to my heart as a result of the 4 weeks I was a Lucian there.

I was in the nursing programme for the caribbean elective and I loved it. It was a really fortune opportunity to meet different people and culture. The people were friendly and always willing to help. It was also very interesting to go and visit different institutions within the mental health programme.

Where would I even start?! The month spent in Saint Lucia was absolutely eye-opening and fantastic! The vibe of island, the people, the food and volunteering/work experience, everything tied into each other to make it a memorable experience. A special shout out to the Caribbean elective team, specifically Natalie, Shanice and Sheldon! They constantly made sure that we were safe, having a great time and always helping us find different ways to explore the island. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone who is looking to fully immerse themselves into the course they are studying whilst discovering a new beautiful culture! I will definitely be back again!

My placement abroad gave me the opportunity to volunteer at different special needs schools and charities, which was an invaluable experience. I met some of the most inspiring people, who made things work with often very little means. I got to know a lot about the local customs, culture and social discourse, which was exactly what I had been hoping for when I applied for this placement. The organisation ensured that we were provided with everything we needed and we had a superb accommodation exceeding expectations.

I enjoyed my time in Saint Lucia, and I would like to thank Caribbean Elective for this opportunity. I have learned so much from the process, gained experience, and developed interpersonal skills which undoubtedly will help me in the future. Undertaking this experience has been a unique opportunity for me to immerse myself in the practical side of my degree discipline. The program gave me an opportunity to implement our response to the bootcamp project brief, refine our proposal, and present our ideas directly to the council of our targeted community.

The whole program, from the university Bootcamp to the abroad internship, was very well structured and truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I hope to see many more students benefit from this outstanding opportunity.

We had an excellent time in St Lucia, tried to get involved in the culture and the communities and we doubt it would have been possible to do as much without the helpful advice and contacts of the Caribbean Elective team.

We were housed in safe, ideally located, beautiful housing and the day to day difficulties of travel to and from placement were all organised for us to allow us to just enjoy our experience there and take in the wonders of the country in our free time. The Caribbean elective team were great, helped us with necessary adjustments in the COVID period and helped us make the most out of our time there.

The convenience and help given at a very reasonable price cannot be understated in a country that can be quite confusing at time. Everything was made clear and the staff were always happy to advise and help where possible.

A lovely team, came home with some amazing experiences!

I cannot praise the experience the students gained on our trio high enough. From the moment we landed Harry and his team were excellent, providing invaluable support. The trip provided students with a wide range of experiences of the St Lucian health care system, ranging from mental health provisions, to care for the homeless and young boys in care. The students returned from each experience filled with enthusiasm and confidence to take on the following days activities. This is an experience I would highly recommend to anyone.

As the International Placement Supervisor at a major education provider in South Yorkshire, Greater Lincolnshire and the Humber Region (United Kingdom) we partnered with The Caribbean Elective during our maiden Turing Scheme programme in 2021/22.

The in-country logistics provided by Caribbean Elective, and cultural experiences offered were something that we just would not have been able to provide without their expertise.

From an academic standpoint, we worked closely with The Caribbean Elective, to reflect the career development aims of individual participants, meaning the itineraries produced provided each student with enhanced career prospects.

The experiences that The Caribbean Elective team provided for our students in St. Lucia were quite literally life-changing and our learners have their eyes opened to the wider world and further opportunities as well as being equipped with valuable and real work experience. The change in the students upon their return to the UK is marked, the increase in their confidence visible.

Our students wished to give a special thanks to all the staff at the Caribbean Elective including Harry, Sergio and Matt with a special mention from our groups for Shernice who the students absolutely loved!

My time in St Lucia was nothing less than incredible. From meeting the local people to working within the healthcare facilities, everything was truly eye opening. Everyone was polite, helpful and very informative and nothing was too much trouble. I’ve come back very humble and grateful for the experience and I have every intention on returning. A massive thank you to Harry and his team!

When the opportunity came up to go on placement over in Saint Lucia I thought ‘why not, what’s to loose?’ I never thought for one minute I’d gain the experience I did. Harry and his team worked all hours to ensure our trip ran as smoothly as possible, even the 2 hour bus journeys to some of the placements were made bearable by stopping to get the best view of the pitons something we wouldn’t be able to do as this wasn’t near our hotel. Just the little things that added to the experience! Saint Lucia is such a beautiful and eye opening country to visit and I’d recommend this to absolutely anyone who has the opportunity no matter what your learning field is, there’s something for everyone over there. Harry and his team ensured we got the absolute best out of our 2 weeks in Saint Lucia and I’d do it all again in a heart beat!

I am so thankful for the recent life changing opportunity to complete a work placement hosted by the Caribbean elective in St Lucia. I have returned from the trip with unforgettable experiences, and memories. I feel the experience has really inspired me, and it has helped me to better myself, as well as my skills. It is invaluable to be immersed in a such a fantastic culture, socially and professionally. The placement involved working in the local community, in both healthcare and education settings, from this we were able to work with such a wide variety of people, and services that we really did experience so much, and got the most out of our time in the placement. There was also so much to see and do in St Lucia, we had the chance to fully explore, and enjoy everything the island has to offer during our free time. St Lucia has it all, from beautiful locations, a friendly and fun culture, and incredible food. This trip was one of the best things I’ve done and I can’t thank everyone enough.

Honestly the best experience I have ever had. Spending time with the nurses amd seeing how respected they are, and how they respect the patient. My most favourite experience was going to the school, witnessing children from different spectrums, and watching them be creative, especially in music. Which I really enjoyed to watch and participate. All staff were so so friendly, especially Harry and the drivers. Could not have met a better set of people. In our own time getting about and exploring the island was an eye opening experience, the views, the scenery, the friendly citizens. Overall the experience amazed me and I have come back home with a completely different mind set, and a possible career change. We had the most amazing time in St Lucia with Caribbean Elective. I would absolutely recommend using this company to anyone looking to do an elective - it took so much stress out of our hands (especially when preparing for finals), and having local knowledge about what to do and where to go was invaluable. It was also so convenient to have transport to and from placement every day. The accommodation was lovely and in a really safe area. The medical placement was really interesting, we got to see conditions that we would never see in the UK. St Lucia itself was so beautiful, and lots of things to do. Very highly recommend using Caribbean Electives.

Sergio and Harry were excellent hosts and we felt safe and supported the whole time. Our placement and accommodation were taken care of, so that we didn’t need to worry about these during our university finals. We recommend a medical elective in Saint Lucia wholeheartedly.

Caribbean Elective knows the island of St. Lucia very well and their involvement was crucial to the success of our college's January-Term natural science-focused field course, especially given the ongoing COVID pandemic (during threat of the Omicron variant). The in-country logistics provided by Caribbean Elective, together with the safety precautions followed faithfully by nearly all St Lucians, gave us the best possible chance of completing our academic goals without incidence of infection. As a result, our faculty and students took part in the daily activities for nearly two weeks and returned home COVID-free! They tailored the program's science content directly to my wishes, yet also found ways to incorporate safe and illuminating cultural exchange with the people of the island. As a seasoned instructor and logistical director of off-campus undergraduate courses for the last 17 years, I can honestly say that I was able to relax a bit more and really focus all my attention to teaching, because I knew that the field crew of Caribbean Elective had a good handle on the logistics. We will definitely be using their services again!
