Worst Experience with Yelp Ads - Beware of Misleading Tactics
If you're considering Yelp for your business, save yourself the headache. My experience has been absolutely terrible.
From the start, I was misled by Michael Alsaigh, who assured me I wouldn’t have to pay anything until December. Turns out, that wasn’t true at all. I started getting random charges on my account without explanation, and when I tried to get help, their customer service was nonexistent. They promise a “30-second wait time,” but when you actually need help, no one ever picks up—I’ve waited 30, even 45 minutes with no response.
Yet, if you want to run ads or give them more money, suddenly they’re quick to respond. Their aggressive and rude sales reps (often calling from random numbers) kept pestering me with, “How are your Yelp ads running?”—as if it’s their concern. It was beyond unprofessional.
What’s worse, I believe their system is completely fraudulent. The so-called “clicks” on your page are likely from scammers or bots just running up your bill. You're not paying for real customer engagement—you’re paying for fake activity. It’s a broken, shady system.
I had to take drastic measures to protect myself: I canceled my Yelp Business account, shut down my Venmo card, and ordered a new one to ensure no further unauthorized charges. This was, hands down, the worst experience I’ve had as a business owner.
Yelp does not prioritize helping businesses—they’re just out to make money, and they don't care how they do it. Don’t fall for their traps. Stay away.
A travesty.
Our business has several five star reviews that Yelp labels as not recommended. While they're happy to broadcast the four negative reviews and not count the good ones at all. In Arizona real estate law that's called steering and it's illegal. Yelp should be investigated.
YELP...a bunch of California internet crooks
It the option was available, my rating for YELP business would be less than a zero.
Recently a review posted about my business, Cheat River Lodge & Cabins, from a person that did not stay at our property. I notified YELP and they refused to remove it. It contains false & inaccurate information, mentioning a one day stay in a 'room'. We do NOT rent for ONE night stays, and If you visit our website, you will clearly see that we do not have 'rooms' as cabins are pictured. Additionally, the picture that the person posted has no relevance to our properties. I asked YELP to remove this listing as well as other listings of locations that I have no association to me. They refused, and asked that I provide a 'personal' photo of myself in order to reply to the reviews. My image is my personal property, and I am not going to provide them with any additional information to publicize a listing that I do not want. I asked that they remove my listing, and they said they wouldn't because they were an internet 'directory'. YELP is a slimy bunch, hiding behind the loopholes that the California liberals value by promoting the use of their website with false and misleading information.
Yelp sucks
Yelp sucks. Especially for businesses. They negate good reviews and promote bad reviews for no reason at all. Stick with Google, trustpilot, and any other social outlet but Yelp. They suck.
When you trust software over actual…
When you trust software over actual people, something is wrong. I’m a small business and get many reviews on yelp, google, facebook and to the other businesses the refer people to me. It would seem that especially yelp does not like people giving me reviews. The last at least 3 reviews I received yelp took off. There excuse is there software believes they are not credible. I got news for you yelp. I keep records of all my customers and these are people that are just thankful for the work I do for them. The fact is that all of my customers are referred to me by my competitors. Goldsmith and Morrison Jeweler’s here in Bowling Green Kentucky. Why don’t you ask them if they think these reviews are real. This is why I don’t use you for advertising!
Sincerely, Keith Hageney

When you use Yelp I give Yelp -10
When you use Yelp, you find out why they chose that name. They scam, and you can not remove your information. Then you lay down and lose all your money, and Y E L P. Do not use Yelp, period. I am not the only one who has experienced their deception.
DON'T DO IT!!
Don't put your information on this website... They sell your information. You WILL get destroyed by ad salesmen and other less than necessary salesmen of which a lot of them are overseas and can seem like they are scamming you. To top it off, they don't have a system for you to "opt-out" or cancel payment of your subscription. Which is a breach of rights to privacy. It WILL be one of your biggest mistakes!
Yelp (tries to) forces app use
I would like to read some reviews. Yelp has an option to choose online as opposed to app but as soon as I click on 'read more' it will only take me to 'open app'.
I will no longer waste time on yelp.
Review
This platform is so awful. They removed all of my genuine reviews.
Negative -10 review
Negative -10 review - pushy sales people for ads - ads cost quite a bit compared to other platforms - took down 7 legitimate reviews for my small biz that I have had overtime - does not support small business growth unless you shove money into it. Changes information on my profile without my knowledge. Just wow… cant believe they are even functioning

Was spending $2000 a month 5 years on yelp then my dad almost died and I got behind on payment for advertising and they were and still are horrible to me
No loyalty poor customer support
unable to reach them
Never pick up phone
This company is actually picking and…
This company is actually picking and choosing which of my customer reviews are recommended to be shown to potential clients to anyone that looks on my website they think that it's okay to take a beautiful perfectly legit review and not show it as one of my reviews I have contacted customer support and he said that that's not how it works that the system picks and chooses which reviews are shown on my site I don't feel that that is proper I feel that the only way to do it is to show all reviews good or bad should be shown fake reviews should be taken off but a good review or a bad review should definitely be shown as a review no matter what I don't think Yelp should be able to take my reviews down that they've already posted and decided to take down to me this is definitely not fair it's not business like at all.... And last but not least the worst part I was supposed to be getting a 14-day free trial product well they want your credit card for this product so they could bill you after your 14-day trial. Well as soon as I put in my information for my free trial they tried to deduct $50 from my account not once not twice 12 times in a row they tried to deduct $50 from my account on a free trial product and do not recommend Yelp
It is okay but could be better
It is okay but could be better. They need to protect businesses more if they want to stay in business.
I did like however, how they managed to get my business a free account and set it up.
Issued unauthorized charges, Slimy
Issued unauthorized charges, on a holiday no less, even after expressly agreeing they would not. I had to cancel a business credit card and am going to have to file a dispute, then re-connect all accounts using that credit card, just prior to a trip. Big, big hassle! They totally lied, I'm pretty upset -
Complete scammers
Yelp is the worst place to purchase ads for small business owners. They steal your money. The sales rep I had was so aggressive and rude, her attitude actually saved me from purchasing their ads. After, looking into them further turns out my instincts were correct based on my interaction with her.
I would give zero if It would let me
I would give zero if I would let me. Yelp is atrocious for businesses, I would never ever recommend them as a place to list your business, they call call call and call trying to sell you. Its pay per click, I haven't heard of anyone who had got away with spending less than $300. They hide your reviews, you literally have to pay to get them seen, they recommend competitors on the page, they send fake leads, which miraculously stopped once I made it clear several times that I am not giving them my credit card. now I hear nothing, no calls no leads, the leads they sent me, I responded too within seconds, I not once got an appointment from it. also the lead was coming from a zip code way far away from my business. I hope people do the research.
The sales rep told me that the ads with…
The sales rep told me that the ads with yelp would be $30 a day, I said $30 a day, he said up to. I said okay he said do you prefer clicks to website or calls. I said calls. He said okay, I have not received any calls and was charged $855 for 24 days! I called they said all was explained in the call, I said lets listen to the recording together. She replied they can't do that but will investigate. They came back and said no it was explained correctly. That is not true! I distinctly stated that I was okay with that but that it would be based on calls. They said it was explained that it was clicks. Don't do it!
Yelp will rob you blind and laugh in your face!
DO NOT for any reason give yelp your credit card info! They are stealing money from tens of thousands of small business owners on a daily basis. This is proven fact, and can be verified by the complains located in the Facebook group "Yelp Exposed".
I was advertising with them until they started taking money out of my account that I did not owe, without my permission. They have provided fake documentation to my bank to fight the dispute, and they are operating outside of the law without a doubt. As of this time, I have not recovered the money that they stole out of my account.
There is no such thing as customer support, as their support lines are set up to put you on perpetual hold. We've proven this on several occasions by leaving the phone online with their hold music for up to 48 hours. You simply cannot get ahold of anyone.
Yelp is simply a money grab. I'm not even going to go into the fake negative reviews that Yelp employees have been proven to post, or the fact that they will delete you positive reviews if you don't pay.
If you doubt me, go watch the movie Billion Dollar Bully. Google it and watch it on Tubi for free. It tells their whole story. They are so bad that someone produced a movie!
