I find it inappropriate that several reviews claim it’s a scam without any proof. I tried Brain fm for nearly two months; I really liked the music and the app's features. However, I wasn't really using it, so I requested a refund within the 60-day free trial period and was successfully refunded. My interactions with customer service were courteous, everything worked smoothly—in short, I don’t think it’s a scam! As for whether it’s just AI-generated music, I can’t say for sure, but I haven’t found a better free alternative (on YouTube or Spotify).

you are asking for credit card details and then claiming its for a "Smooth transition" when you know exactly what you are doing, this platform is evil, whoever is responding to the reviews is lying to the people who are upset with the trial

Most productivity apps rely on toxic gamification, but Brain.fm takes a highly intentional approach. The offline downloads can be a bit slow to sync, but the core audio functional acts as perfect cognitive scaffolding for deep work. There are zero dark patterns or push notifications trying to hijack your bandwidth. A masterclass in ethical tech that actively protects your attention.

Brain.fm uses classic "Dark Patterns" to mislead users. They advertise a "No commitment trial," bait you into providing your email address, and only after they have your data, they demand credit card information "in case you decide to continue."
This is a textbook lack of good faith. If a trial requires a credit card, it is NOT commitment-free—it's an opt-out trap designed to profit from people who forget to cancel. Despite numerous complaints about this exact tactic, they refuse to change.
A company that claims to help with focus shouldn’t rely on cheap psychological manipulation to get paid. I feel deceived. Avoid giving them your data.

The music didn't quite hit the spot for me. My mind got too involved in the music, and different bits of my brain started buzzing too often.
The free trial ended before I cancelled, but they were helpful and sorted a refund of fees. I was worried they wouldn't, but all nice and easy. Top marks for customer service.

Dishonest advertising. Free. Free.Free. give us your details. Not free. Bad behaviour by them in my view. Very misleading.

I have had no negative experience with Brain FM.
Overall I think it has helped me focus easier and better, but I wouldn't say it's been a dramatic change. Nevertheless, it has helped.

Ai Slop generated music, each song sounds like worse noncopyrighted music that sounds like its playing on a cheap Bluetooth speaker through spinning fan blades.
Maybe if someone has ADHD this would help I don't really know but there is better music out there for studying. Their company has some pretty huge promises when you join but it's a little disappointing to be honest

Honestly, brain.fm does well in doing its job. They give you a 3-day free trial without needing your payment details for once. There could be more features, though, like playlists or combining Deep Work and Rain Mix (or something like that). It's still 100% worth it, though.

The app offers a free 7-Day trial followed by monthly recurring fees. You cannot sign up for the free trial without providing your payment details. The app is designed for people with ADHD. People with ADHD are notoriously impulsive and forgetful, and avoid small administrative tasks. This billing practise is therefore prime to take advantage of people with ADHD who will be more likely to sign up, forget about it and end up paying months of fees for something they don't use, experiencing that avoidance/ paralysis against cancelling it. Brain FM could fix this by making the free trial available without inserting your payment details. They won't do this of course, because they would be losing out on money from the people I have described. They'll give some spiel about this being a normal payment method, no doubt. But they have a higher responsibility to think about their payment practises, given the vulnerabilities of the people that they are exclusively marketing this app for.

This app has literally tripled my productivity and focus over the past two years. Once I put it on, I feel immediately dialed in. I’ve tried other music, but the effect Brain.fm has on my focus is unmatched. It would be even better if you added more electronic tracks!

Any service that says 'free trial' but also makes you have to input your credit card details is a scam. Why not let people see if this program will work for them before they commit? Looking at the other reviews here, definitely looks like they make it as hard as possible for us all to cancel so that way we still get charged. Taking advantage over those diagnosed with ADHD is wrong and will never contemplate using this "service" again.
Edit: Their response below is pathetic. No mention of how they are stealing money from people, just a generic, AI written message to try and 'act' like they give a crap, which if you read the other reviews on here, you'll know they don't. DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM, AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

I signed up for the free trial of Brain.fm and cancelled it on the very first day to avoid any charges. Despite this, I was charged the full annual fee of $99 one day before the trial period was supposed to end.
Even more concerning, my account status was changed from “trial cancelled” to “yearly membership” without my consent. This is completely unacceptable.
I contacted Brain.fm about this issue but have not received any response. Charging customers after they have clearly cancelled a trial, and then changing the account details, seriously undermines trust.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this service and strongly advise others to be very cautious before signing up.

My experience with Brain.fm has raised serious concerns about its billing practices.
I cancelled my free trial at the very beginning of the trial period specifically to avoid being charged. Despite this timely cancellation, my card was billed — and notably, the charge was processed while there were still three full days remaining in the stated trial window. I attempted to contact the company again and only received generic responses of "we'll be in touch in 2 business days." With today being Saturday, they might not respond until at least Tuesday - which is now past the end of the 3-days remaining on the trial. Even though I requested the cancellation weeks ago, they didn't complete the initial request and by the time they respond, can claim the charge is valid.
A “free trial” carries a clear and reasonable expectation: if a consumer cancels within the trial period, no charge should occur. Processing a payment after cancellation, and before the trial has even concluded, is inconsistent with that expectation and calls into question the transparency and reliability of the company’s subscription management system.
From a consumer protection standpoint, subscription services have a responsibility to ensure that cancellation mechanisms are clear, effective, and honored without penalty. When a customer takes documented steps to cancel within the trial period, any subsequent charge undermines trust and may conflict with fair billing standards that are designed to protect consumers from precisely this type of situation.
Consumers should not have to monitor their accounts defensively after complying with cancellation procedures. The obligation rests with the company to implement accurate billing controls and to honor its own stated trial terms.
Based on this experience, I would urge prospective customers to exercise caution and carefully document any cancellation communications.

Why is it so easy to sign up but so hard to cancel?
There is no button to cancel why?
I have tried the service, didn't like it. Searched for the cancel button. Its not displayed anywhere??? Only option is to contact support via email, waste my time...
The advertisement got me interested but the poor business practice left me hating.
"Cancel your subscription at anytime" but T&Cs says cancellation requests are processed in 2 business days. Very misleading. Guess I can't cancel NOW and have to wait 2 business days

I cancelled my trial subscription two days before it was due and still got charged for the yearly subscription.

I've been using brain.fm fairly consistently for around 18 months - particularly on the days I really struggle with focus. I find myself just aimlessly 'achieving' tasks that have absolutely nothing to do with the productive work I need to be doing while sitting at my desk, then I remember to launch brain.fm. I notice a difference within around 5mins. It helps me lock in to the task I'm wanting to do, rather than mundane things that simply give me a dopamine hit. I've tried it for relaxation a couple of times - if you find the right music, it can really help. It helped massively the first time, and the second time not as much (but I noticed I wasn't vibing with the music / had some distractions that time as well). I recently reached out to support for help with something and they came back super promptly and resolved my issues. Great service!

Brain.fm has been useful for focus sessions, especially when I’m working for long stretches. The science behind it actually makes sense to me, and in practice it works better for my focus than other apps I’ve tried, like Calm.
