Avoid at all costs

I'm writing this because I don't want another family to go through what we are. We are all so angry and upset. Legal proceedings are to begin shortly so I can't go into the details now. Please Please go elsewhere it will be worth paying £2,000 more than being let down. You've been warned!

Advice please

Not a review! Just advice, our camper only has two mains sockets and no USB ports. Trying to figure out how we use and charge anything with out being hooked up?

What a mistake! Please think carefully!!!

I placed an order with Big Wave Campers for a camper conversion in late May 2020 and was told that the build period was three to four weeks.

I was taken in by the laid back, "matey" approach and was very excited at the prospect of getting the camper. What a fool I was.

Between June and early August communications with Big Wave were diffcult as they rarely answered the phone, returned calls or responded to emails. In early August I got a delivery date of 4 September with no apology. Despite this being nearer to three months than three weeks I was uplifted by the news.

On 2 September I got a very coldly written email telling me that my allocated van had failed its mechanical inspection and that Big Wave would have to cancel my order and give me a refund. I hadn't chosen a van, they had, and they offered no alternatives just that they were cancelling my order. After several emails where I requested that they find an alternative van and fulfil the order I got an email telling me that if I wanted a van to the specification ordered in May then I would have to pay an extra £3,000 to £4,000.

Has the original van ever existed? Had they started the conversion? Had they just discovered that they couldn't fulfil my order for the agreed price? Well, frankly, I may have my suspicions but I will never know for sure. Regardless, it seems downright disgusting that Big Wave treat their customers in this way.

If you decide to order a camper from Big Wave Campers because they are cheaper than other companies then best of luck to you. I really hope that they treat you better than they have treated me.

One star awarded because you can't give less.

I have now ordered my camper from another company and I can't tell you how pleased I am, in hindsight, that I didn't get a Big Wave Camper.

Matt I would firstly like to apologise that you feel you have been treated in such a way. I would however like to clarify a few points.
1. Your order was placed just after lockdown when ourselves, like most, had no idea the tragic impact that Covid19 would have on the world. Because of this many places did and are still yet to re-open therefore having a knock on effect on everyone. This being the reason many supplies were not available.
2. Having looked into your file there are in excess of 20 e-mails to yourself keeping you informed of the situation.
3. The van was due to be ready as agreed on 4th Sept and when the final checks were made the workshop found there to be a mechanical fault which may have occurred at any point in time. Due to this we were not in a position to sell the vehicle. We did contact you explaining this and at the same time said that as you had been waiting for so long and with the current on-going supply issues it would be the fairest thing to offer you a refund. Less that 12 hours later you had sent in your bank details and were paid back your £500. Giving no indication about an alternative ? There never was a conversation about a more expensive vehicle ?
By you sending your bank details and being paid straight away it would appear that although disappointed, appreciated being able to go elsewhere to source a vehicle and that you were not strung along.
It has been and still is a very testing time for many companies and we can only once again apologise for how you feel you were treated.
As the enjoyment of owning a camper is such a wonderful experience we are pleased that you have been able to order another van and wish you all the best.

Not disappointed, definitely recommend.

I had been looking at conversions for a while and always went back to Big Wave Campers website. I found the styles of conversion available were worth the money. In the end with how popular they were we ended up having one done over the phone. We chose the type, colour, wheels and interior then waited for a collection date. It was rather strange parting with a large sum of money on something we had never seen before. We were not disappointed when we went to collect it 4 weeks later. Since then we have been out in it as much as possible.

We collected our brand new conversion…

We collected our brand new conversion today and we couldn’t be happier with the service as everyone was really welcoming and friendly!
The process was so easy from start to finish including getting finance down to the sales team selling us our new campervan
I was hesitant at first due to the reviews but went with my gut and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made.

So so bad!!

So so bad!!! We had agreed a van spec with big wave campers on the 6th July and paid a refundable deposit. We drove to Bude on the 1st August to pick the van up and it quickly became clear that the van was not up to standard. There was mastic drools from the windows, the dashboard was a right mess which was unrepairable and there where 4 engine management lights on! We declined the van and asked for our deposit back which despite numerous phone calls and emails to this point we still haven’t received the deposit. Absolutely disgusting!

Lovely van, well put together

We received our van after a slightly prolonged buying process (Covid related) but always felt confident despite some of the negative reviews. We chose the interior colours and requested a grey van - none were available and we happily settled for a black one (Better spec, 10k on the clock and great value). The build quality is excellent (I have worked on vehicles for 30+ years and have had a good root around!) and we are really pleased with the outcome. A lovely van and one that will provide great trips into Cornwall for years to come - Thanks BWC.

Awful experience

Before I start I want to be clear this is a review on the customer service not the quality of the campervan as we never proceeded to that point in the end. We initially went to visit the Studley site at the end of May 2020 to view a campervan advertised. When we got there we were told the van had already been sold but one could be designed to order for the same price. We had a look at the campers there and they did look decent from a brief look around. We were told they had just got a van with the model and spec we were looking for and they could convert that. We were told we could order with a £500 refundable deposit which we could get back up to the day of pick up. We got swept up in the excitement and agreed to leave a deposit and was assured this could be delivered in 4 weeks and that someone would be in touch the next day with details who we would liaise with to design the spec. This is when the issues started after 4 days no one had contacted us, after I called someone did get back to me on the 5th day to ask me to confirm the spec. We provided this and said we were interested in a number of extras, which we confirmed in writing what they were. Then nothing for a week despite a number of emails from myself asking if they had received everything and asking for details of the base van they would be using and if we could have pictures of the process of the conversion. I finally got a vague response saying they had received the details but didn’t answer any of my questions about the base van E.g. registration and mileage Or about the pictures. I then tried to call several times and emailed to ask for details of the van and for them to confirm all the final costs and the pick up date. I even spoke to the sales team a couple of times to be told no problem I’ll get someone to call you back and they never did. Then nothing again for almost 2 weeks despite repeated emails from myself. Eventually they got back to me several days before pick up was due and they put the date back for 2 weeks stating issues with obtaining upholstery. I understand issues can occur so I gave them the benefit of the doubt then several days before the next pick up there was another email to say they didn’t think it would be ready, not a new date or an apology. At this point they still hadn’t confirmed the final price, that they could fulfil the spec or sent me any pictures of the van being built as requested several times. At this point (and after reading numerous shocking reviews) We decided to cancel our order and get our deposit back. I emailed to ensure it was in writing and to be honest it was the quickest response I had from them to say they were sorry to hear that and that my deposit would be refunded in 3-5 days. As with others experience 5 days came and went and no deposit was returned. I emailed daily mostly to be told this is with accounts and it was being processed. I was then told that it had been processed and it would be with me by the end of the day, 4 days later it still hadn’t arrived. After much chasing I got a telephone number for the ‘accounts team’ in Coventry to which no one ever answered and half the time the voicemail was full and wouldn’t allow you to leave a message. After telling them I would be calling daily both the aftersales and sales team unless I got a refund it landed in my account with no apology or explanation. Overall it was just an extremely stressful experience, and I would strongly urge people to look elsewhere if good customer service and communication is important to them. On reflection and after reading some of the stories about the quality of their campervans I feel we had a lucky escape.

Mr Hobday, I can only apologise for the experience and service which you received and can assure you that this is not how we normally conduct business. As I am sure you will appreciate these have been difficult times and opening up after lockdown proved this in itself as we are reliant on other businesses as well as our own staff. With reference to the procedure when you place an order our standard contact from Aftersales is 48 hours, however after lockdown staff were reintroduced into the business gradually in order to perform to Government regulations so a back log of e-mails did build up. Photographs of the vans are not taken until they are converted the same as if someone was buying a new build property, it is not a true representation of the finished product. The vans are built in slots and registrations/mileages are not confirmed until nearer the time of completion. Regarding the collection date, unfortunately, through no fault of our own we have had to put some vans back purely due to the fact that not all small businesses have re-opened due to Covid-19 which has impacted on others. The reason your cancellation e-mail was responded to so quickly was that we were trying to work through the current orders as efficiently as possible and the fact you had decided not to proceed was a perfectly acceptable decision under the circumstances. To cause you the least amount of stress this was to assure you that the deal had been cancelled. Our refund policy as per all businesses is 7-14 days and I take on board that you were misinformed. Having looked into your concerns, measures have been taken to ensure that the staff we now have working for us are the right people. On behalf of Big Wave Campers please accept our most sincere apologies.

After an initial mix up with the van we…

After an initial mix up with the van we originally placed a deposit on, Big Wave Campers went above and beyond to ensure our new camper was ready for the planned collection date, even resulting in a newer van with lower mileage.
We love it, our boys love it, and we're looking forward to all the new adventures to come.

BRILLIANT SERVICE

I found a camper on line, emailed asking for extras to be added. We agreed the price. I paid £ 500 deposit which was refundable. Five days later I picked it up. I dealt with Jodan at Studley, he was excellent, he even collected me from the station.
On viewing the van the Reimo rail which I asked to be fitted, unfortunately it wasn`t. Jodan made a call and said the engineer would drive to South Wales the following morning. This all happened, Jason the fitter came to my house as agreed and did the job. I`m over the moon with the van and the service is excellent

12 months on

Like to give things a good test run before reviewing. In summary, great van, great service, superb after service and not a single issue to raise. 35 nights done, 12 booked so far for this year and myself the wife and kids love it.

Prepare to be lied to and not get your money back!

Don't make the mistake of ordering a van from Big Wave Campers & then change your mind, we had to because they couldn't provide the van we thought we had purchased, and they don't refund your deposit. They have repeatedly lied about having made a refund to our bank and we have been waiting since August 2019 for our money. Strongly recommend that you go elsewhere for your camper, there are plenty of better and more honest suppliers out there.

Promised the world

I ordered a van and got told so much lies it was unbelievable.anyway it turns out the van seemingly had a problem with gearbox.every time I phoned I got told a different story I ended up canceling the whole lot. and eventually got my money back I must say after a lot of phonecalls to which some were answered.I got a van not far from studley from a more trustworthy place be very careful out there and do a lot of homework

Fantastic service from start to finish

Fantastic service from start to finish. Really friendly guys who go the extra mile to find you your perfect van. I have bought cars and vans from many places and these are as good as any. Was over the moon with my van! Already took it out on two trips and absolutely love. Buying a VW camper is the best thing I've done since divorcing my wife 😁👍

Excellent for First Time Buyers!!

I visited the Studley site last year to view their campers alongside many others, and I must admit I was very impressed with my entire experience from start to finish. After visiting several times I eventually purchased a van from Big Wave Campers. Being a woman, I was very cautious as this was my first time buying a camper! Despite being very particular with a specific budget, and knowing exactly what I was looking for, Big Wave Campers did not fail to deliver. I was very happy with the Customer Service provided every time I visited and the communication I received during the process. I would advise anyone considering buying a camper to give them a visit! The gentlemen on the Studley site was very accommodating and discussed all my concerns in depth and also discussed all the options that were available to me. He was very friendly, polite and patient, which also put me at further ease.
I now have my camper which I am extremely satisfied with and would highly recommend Big Wave Campers to anyone buying for the first time!

Our Gino D’Camper

We visited the showroom in Studley in March this year with no intentions of purchasing a van.... but when we saw the quality and finished product, we couldn’t help but enquire. The staff walked us through all the options i.e. van model, spec and available options. The team got back to us within a few days after sourcing the long wheel base T6 and at that point we paid our deposit and placed the order. The van was delivered complete within 6 weeks and we wouldn’t change a thing about it. WE LOVE IT. Thank you to all at Big Wave Campers for your excellent work and customer service.
