Unfair Billing Practices and Refusal to Cancel Membership
I became a BellaTec member on January 31, 2025, with the promise of a “free month.” That free month wasn’t a real benefit because the gym wasn’t fully open for regular use — only certain classes were available.
From February through June 2025, I paid $260 per month. I completely stopped attending at the end of June 2025 and have not used the facility since. Despite this, BellaTec attempted to charge my card multiple times without my authorization.
When I formally emailed to cancel, BellaTec refused to process my cancellation unless I paid two more months of dues. Their contract does say “2 months of dues to quit,” but under California law (Civil Code §1812.89), early termination fees are capped at $100 if less than halfway through the contract, or $50 if past halfway. Their demand for more than $500 is not enforceable under California law.
Even after pointing this out, BellaTec still refused to cancel my membership and claimed they would continue billing. I also continue to receive unwanted promotional emails.
I am sharing this experience as a documented account so others understand the risks of signing up here.
