Attempted to book a cycle trip in NZ this evening and after completing the necessary screens and inputting my payment details I got ‘timed out’ (basically I took too long) but worryingly my card payment had already gone through; initially used the chat bot but thankfully 😅 got referred to the excellent and helpful Chloe who managed to verify the payment and reconnect this with booking details I’d earlier completed. This was a worrying situation for us and we were so relieved and pleased that Chloe was able to sort this out for us. Well done Chloe and thanks for your excellent customer service, we can now look forward to our bike trip

Helpful for advice on travelling in Australia and New Zealand, but I've had 2 negative experiences with them that made me quite upset, they feel quite hawkish in trying to get you to spend money with them. One in which they falsely advertised a campervan in New Zealand as a self contained vehicle. They refused to give me a refund of the deposit in cash but instead, after much debate with their online team and over the phone, as travel vouchers for their company. That money should be given to me in cash, not vouchers I have to spend with them.
The second negative experience came when I was discussing a trip along the east coast of Australia. I was very lacking in knowledge on costs and what to do with the travels and I found one of their travel agents to be fairly rude about my lack of knowledge and slightly aggressive too. I set quite a low budget and this really upset them, they said there was 'no point putting it together if your budget is $500 and you don't want to do the things that makes the east coast the east coast :('. I was definitely wrong about such a low budget ($1000 was about what we spent in the end instead), but I found them really passive aggressive in their response.
Chloe was very helpful, doing a manual booking for me when the website wasn't working. She was very efficient and an asset to your company.
I went to book for Uluru tours for our visit in June 2025. I was looking for sunrise and sunset tours that are value for money given the economic condition we have. And I got to chat to Katie and helped me point to tours I can consider and got the tours I wanted within our budget because there's 5 of us travelling. She was so helpful and gave us a discount as well on top of the cashback I got after booking.
My husband and I, a retired couple from the USA rented a Star RV Polaris 2 from Duncan. We couldn’t have been happier. The camper was comfortable, fitted out with almost anything one could want; cooking equipment, bedding, towels, camp chairs and a table. We drove it around Tasmania for 10 days on various terrain including windy mountain roads. It handled beautifully and, at the end of the day, provided us with a clean, comfortable, economical accommodation. We were well oriented by staff at the pick-up location and, though we never had to call in with any questions, I understand from other campers, that if there are issues, Star RV’s support system is pretty responsive. If I have one criticism, it’s that there were no utensils for making coffee. A French press or some filters would have been welcome. All in all, we enjoyed the experience and saved a considerable amount of money on meals and lodging.

Cancelled our booked tour well within cancellation period and in line with the operator’s (RealNZ) policy, as stated on Backpacers deals maim web page.Despite RealNZ refunding Backpacker Deals, they initially refused a refund, citing small print T&C’s . Only after intervention from RealNZ and New Zealand Travel Tips was a refund given. Would recommend dealing direct with tour operators and not a 3rd Party, as the former are more flexible on refunds.
Duncan has been the best operator that we could ever had. He has always take attention about us, and has been super care about everything, telling us what to do and manage the better way possible on everything. Also, we had some trouble for the cairns weather and he has help a lot!
I contacted Backpacker deals via chat and worked with Katie from customer support. She was extremely helpful and prompt in her responses. She was able to offer suggestions for getting the best price on a number of of tours were are looking to book when we are in New Zealand. Great customer service.

Without DQ we would’ve ended up with a lot less for a lot more money!

I spoke to Dave Y who listened to what I wanted to experience. They then gave some great info on what trips Backpacker Deals has on offer, and suggested a particular trip.
It was not available on the day that I needed but Dave was able to work some magic and make it available.
