AVOID BUY BACK RIP OFF
AVOID BUY BACK RIP OFF
Buy back policy is a RIP OFF do not take the option to pay for it as they don't buy back all your currency at the rate you paid for it only up to the value of £250 sterling the rest is at what ever the rate is on the day this is not explained to you when you're collecting your currency the only time you get to know about it is if you click on a ! when ordering it on line, this is where they hide this information. ( This got explined to me when i made a complaint over the phone like everyone clicks on the small ! )
Then when you have paid for it and they have got your money it then appears in your confirmation email. (again explained this in my phone conversation)
FEELS LIKE THE HIDDEN COMMISSION ON CAR DEALS AS I'VE JUST BEEN STUNG TO THE TUNE OF JUST SHORT OF £180
This is not a buy back it's a partial buy back never use asda money again for my currency.
RIP OFF AVOID
I would rate minus if I could
I would rate minus if I could. I have just been told that for every month of inactivity on this card. I get charged £2. Why did the lad that blagged us into this not tell us that and why has it taken them 2 years to mention this. We have never been told. Well good luck asda. You will not be getting a Penny of me and I will fight this all the way. Will also be moving my phone contract away from them now. What a rubbish way to treat customers.
I had an extremely disappointing…
I had an extremely disappointing experience with Asda Insurance.
My flights were cancelled, and I submitted all the required evidence, including proof of the cancelled flights and my accommodation costs. Despite providing the documentation, my claim took around three months to deal with.
In the end, Asda Insurance did not pay anything towards my claim, despite the time I spent waiting and providing the requested evidence.
The whole experience was extremely frustrating and left me very disappointed with the way my claim was handled. I would strongly recommend that anyone considering this insurance carefully checks the policy terms and the claims process before purchasing.
temperamental
I find the topping up the card very temperamental, sometimes it tops up other times it declines, very frustrating when i am on holiday in Europe and can't top the card.
One of the biggest mistakes I’ve made…
One of the biggest mistakes I’ve made was getting this money card.
I took it with me to Turkey, and honestly, I was shocked by how many extra charges I ended up paying. They were taking charges from almost every transaction through the foreign exchange rate.
When I topped up around £500, I was also given a poor exchange rate. Then, when I withdrew €100 from an ATM abroad, even though my account was in euros, they charged me €110.98 — that’s an extra €10.98!
On top of that, they were charging around €2–€3 on individual transactions. All these small charges really add up.
My advice to everyone is: don’t get this card if you’re travelling abroad. You’re better off exchanging your money into euros or the local currency beforehand and taking cash with you. At least you know exactly how much you’re spending without being hit with extra charges on every transaction.
Based on my experience, I definitely won’t be using this card again.
Unreliable transactions and poor customer service
The card is completely unreliable and most of my transactions get declined (not great when solo travelling). Ringing customer service is essentially useless because they don't know why the transaction has declined and their most helpful advice was to "use a different card"...
Do not buy!!!
Bigest scam. They charge a huge percentage, the service is poor, and it's very difficult to get through to help center. I waited for an hour just to get through. It also often doesn't work the travel card. So many problem. Very disappointing.
Daylight robbery
I haven’t used the card for a long time, I accessed my account today, only to discover they have been placing an inactivity fee on my account. They have taken over 1 hundred euros from my account. I called CS to ask how I go about getting a refund, to be told that I won’t be getting my money back. I am absolutely fuming and will be withdrawing my money asap.
Lost the card and cant get through on…
Lost the card and cant get through on phone to order a new one keep getting put on hold My local Asda currency has closed down still £60 on card just going to take the loss as its to time consuming with the lack of communication.
Very bad No recommend
Very bad. I do not recommend this card at all. The fees are very high, and there are a lot of problems. Customer service is terrible. It is impossible to reach the support team. The help line always says there is a high volume of calls, and no one answers. It is also impossible to get a reply to emails.
I cannot even resolve my problem because nobody responds 1 hour waiting. NO answer. I have spent money calling from abroad and have waited for hours without getting any help. I have also been charged twice, and the card probably does not work properly.

The service i received was absolutely superb great advice & special mention for Terry 1st class
Disappointment with the card
Disappointment with the card, went to Gran Canaria after being told by the store that this was the way to purchase items etc, but no the card doesn’t work so has left us short with money while we are away, won’t use again and will be requesting a full refund of they money once back to the UK. Told we can get emergency funds but no idea where from and how whilst in a country we don’t know, absolutely shocking service both over the phone and the line in store which was a bit false as it’s not a simple tap and go as it doesn’t work anywhere!
The customer service adviser Heather…
The customer service adviser Heather was very helpful and polite. She was very efficient and provided excellent customer service. Keep up the good work! I will enjoy my holiday to Benidorm.

I got some travel money today at Asda in Ipswich and yvette served me and she was extremely helpful and ever so freindly I have absolutely zero complaints, I see there are few bad reviews on here but that must be because yvette wasn't there she was the best !
I had a very disappointing experience…
I had a very disappointing experience with Asda Travel Money.
I went in to sell some unused US dollars and buy euros, which should have been a straightforward transaction. However, the staff member serving me was extremely slow — it took around 25 minutes just to process, mainly due to how long it took him to count the cash. The whole experience felt unprofessional and inefficient.
Because of the delay and frustration, I didn’t even realise he had failed to return my driving licence. Two weeks later, I found out it had been sent via Royal Mail to DVLA instead of being returned directly to me. This could easily have resulted in my licence being destroyed, forcing me to pay for a replacement.
To make matters worse, I discovered this just two days before going on holiday. Not having my driving licence meant I couldn’t hire a car, which significantly affected my trip and cost me additional money.
I’ve used Asda Travel Money before and had much better service, but this experience — particularly with the staff member (initials Jay MRRN) — was far below standard. Poor attention to detail and lack of care had real consequences for me.
Awful asda norwich buero
Claudio in the asda norwich money bureau was rude and not following procedure. I was asked to sign to say I had received the money I bought online before even seeing the money. He checked my id and then asked me to sign. When I questioned why I was signing when he hadn't even counted out the money he said that's how it works here and if I don't sign he wouldn't serve me. After I signed he sloppily counted out the money and shoved the notes without an envelope in the tray. Claudio refused to give me the complaint email telling me to Google it wjich i did and initially someone from asda norwich said Claudio followed the correct procedure. I fed this back to travelex who upheld my complaint and confirmed this is not correct and staff needed training.
Much better alternatives available
I have been stuck in my ways using a prepaid travel card for too long. The exchange rates are poor. The app is pretty useless. You can’t update your phone number on the app so I couldn’t get a verification code when trying to pay for something online. When I had a new card issued after losing the previous one, the PIN must have been updated. I didn’t realise this, and the app wouldn’t display the new PIN, so couldn’t use the card to pay for things until the app eventually decided it would tell me the PIN. When I checked my balance this morning, around £150 worth of currency had mysteriously vanished, presumably funds being held after I bought petrol yesterday, but there is zero indication of this and so I don’t know much I actually have remaining.
I hear a lot of banks now let you use your card abroad fee free and at a favourable exchange rate. On recent trips I’ve been using Trading212’s virtual card, where exchange rates are near-perfect and you get cashback on spending. I’m vowing to never use Asda travel money in future!
Fantastic service at Asda Travel
Fantastic service at Asda Travel
James and Lynn at the travel desk in Asda near Lakeside in Doncaster are always professional, friendly, and welcoming. They make you feel special and nothing is ever too much trouble.
A great service every time — highly recommended.
Pending funds problem
Be wary, and have a back up.My preloaded travel card worked fine for a couple of days, but spent on a Sunday and my remaining around £100 was locked, while purchases were "pending" meaning I couldn't use the balance on the last day of my trip when I would have been buying gifts for friends and family.
