Content was disappointing

I have just received my pack giving me details of my surname. It is a gift for my husband’s birthday. It arrived less than a week after I ordered it which was very prompt, but I was disappointed with the content I must admit. At least I paid a discounted rate, if I had paid full price I would have been very annoyed 😕

Fantastic company the parchment used is first class if you are just thinking “ I wonder if these products are worth the while. “
Please go ahead and purchase they are amazing with so much knowledge postage is free and so quickly received just ordered my second purchase and will order at least 4 more in the coming months 5* plus

Somehow 2 orders turned into 5

Somehow 2 orders turned into 5! I emailed, texted about 5 times and no response! The product is minimalist, at best and took weeks to receive. A nice folder and pretty computer paper that you could print yourself would have been more attractive - I'd NEVER order from them again.

I’ve requested further information from you here on Trustpilot so I can look into this properly and understand exactly how two orders appeared to turn into five, as that’s certainly not what should happen and we’d want to make that right.

For context, our typical fulfilment time from start to finish is around 48 hours, and we always aim to respond to customer emails within 24 hours, so the delays and lack of communication you’ve described fall outside the standard we expect of ourselves. I understand we really struggled to cope with the spike in orders during the Christmas period (for which we are super grateful and now fully on top of) but I’d like to investigate this further to see what went wrong and ensure it’s properly addressed if it wasn't already.

I ordered 2 folders plus one for$20

I ordered 2 folders. For $79.99.
I put in names and dates requested. A promt came up to order a third for $20.00. I clicked and that was it. They never took information on 3rd.
I eventually get 2 in the mail. 1 had wrong date. I emailed immediately. They have not responded. Sent multiple emails,with no response. So I paid for 3. Got 1 correct ,1 wrong and one is missing.

Poo product

Ordered two packs early december one for my wife and one myself. Mine arrived in 10 days (not impressed with quality or content) but nothing for my wife (was intended as an xmas gift) took 2 months emailing before it arrived.. Of course they do reply with apologies and promises to sort it etc etc, even send (dubious) tracking numbers, definitely not worth the money.. In short seems a borderline scam, poor quality product and timewasting customer service. Save your money - dont bother.

When deliveries go wrong like this, it’s incredibly frustrating for everyone involved. We rely on Royal Mail for delivery, which is a legitimate and widely used service in the UK, but when issues occur at their end it can unfortunately make us look unreliable, which is something we take very seriously.

Regarding the quality and content, I’m genuinely sorry that it didn’t meet your expectations. Each page of the pack is shown on our website so customers can see exactly what’s included before ordering, but that doesn’t mean your feedback isn’t valid. We’d really welcome more detail on what you felt was lacking, as we’re always looking to improve and refine the product.

Scammers - don't waste your money

I bought this for my husband as a Christmas present. He thought it was a joke. Thank God he didn’t know how much I paid for this absolute rubbish.

My husband's grandfather was a Polish immigrant. The English legacy going back to the 12th century is therefore complete fabrication.

They state the product is “housed in a premium presentation folder.” What exactly is “premium” about a coloured cardboard folder?

“Handmade & Researched Just for You
“Every pack is carefully researched and handcrafted by our UK-based team to ensure historical accuracy and a personal touch.”

Total nonsense.

“Is this suitable for all surnames?
Absolutely. Whether your surname is the most common or the rarest, every pack is carefully crafted to celebrate its origin, meaning, and journey through history.

How is the information researched?
Each order is individually researched and assembled by our UK-based team using trusted historical archives and data sources.”

Utter garbage.

And 482/482 5 star reviews on their website. Read into that what you will.

No response received, none expected.

If you want to throw away £30 of your money go out and get drunk instead, at least you'll have fun until you're sober.

I do want to clarify a couple of points, as it’s important for us to be transparent. Our Surname History Packs focus on the origin, meaning, and historical development of surnames, rather than an individual’s personal family tree. Where a surname has English roots, that reflects the documented linguistic and historical origin of the name itself, not the full ancestry of every family who later carried it through migration.

All of our packs are assembled in-house by our UK-based team using established historical sources, and we’re careful to be clear about what the product is and isn’t on our website, including showing the full layout and presentation in advance. That said, expectations around tone, presentation, and perceived value can differ from person to person, and I’m sorry this wasn’t the right fit for you.

We absolutely do respond to customer enquiries and would be more than happy to review your order or discuss your concerns directly if you’re open to that. If you’d like us to look into this further, please feel free to get in touch via email with your order details.

turned up damaged and i was told i’d be…

turned up damaged and i was told i’d be sent a replacement with an express delivery. this was over 5 weeks ago. I have emailed them again today with the same email address and now the email has been returned as undeliverable?? The product would have been nice and good quality had it not been poorly packaged. Bad customer service and feel like i’ve been ripped off.

I’m really sorry for how drawn-out and frustrating this experience has been. I completely understand why this would feel unacceptable from your side.

I’ve checked this fully and can see that after the original item arrived damaged, we arranged a free replacement with express delivery. Unfortunately, this seems to be affected by Royal Mail issues outside of our control, including tracking and scanning problems, which clearly made this far more stressful than it should ever be.

We then sent another replacement at no cost, which I can see was successfully delivered on 20 January. While I’m relieved it finally reached you, I’m genuinely sorry for the time and effort this took on your part. When a third party lets us down like this, it reflects badly on us, and that’s something we take seriously.

This kind of situation is extremely uncommon for us, but that doesn’t make it any less frustrating when it happens. Thank you for your patience throughout, and I’m very sorry for the experience you’ve had.

Poorly executed, poorly researched, lazy and lacklustre rubbish

Email I sent to the company upon receiving my order (I was refused a refund):

Hello,

I spent £29.99 on a ‘Your Day in History’ pack for my dad (order #15800) and I have to say I’m seriously disappointed. I expected far more interesting and niche facts - indeed, I expected far more facts in general - than what has been received.

For eg - stating “FASHION TREND: Mini skirts defined British fashion in the swinging sixties” is neither revelatory nor specifically relevant even to the year that he was born (1967). It’s not even an interesting standalone fact.

I’m also pretty appalled that there is a whole section under Economy, where space has actually been allocated on the page beset in red ink (as if this is a particularly important bit), which reads: “Price of a Freddo: Not yet introduced (launched in 1973)”.

I’m unsure whether I actually have to explain the problem with this one. If something was not actually yet even in existence, why is it being allocated space and prominence on an already limited page which is supposed to provide information on the contemporary economy in 1967? I understand that ‘the price of a freddo’ has become a tongue-in-cheek reference point used by - frankly - millennials to trace inflation. My dad is not a millennial. He would not get this reference or feeble attempt at a joke and frankly I would feel embarrassed to hand him this piece of paper as a birthday present. For which reason, I am not going to do so.

I was genuinely excited about this as a gift as I thought the concept had a lot of potential. However, I find the execution to be extremely poor, lacklustre and lazy. I want a full refund as I genuinely feel that I was oversold this product - and for a hefty price too. Extremely disappointed.

Very happy.

I ordered two birthday files, one for my wife and one for my disabled granddaughter. After a few hours I decided I wanted my granddaughters framed. I contacted them by email and said I would send the extra payment by PayPal if they agreed. They replied within the hour and agreed to change the order. Both arrived in time for the birthdays. More than happy.

AVOID AVOID AVOID

I ordered the surname pack for £29.99 paid for it by PayPal less than 12hours later I got a notification saying it had been delivered by Royal Mail but no delivery was made , and after checking the so called tracking app it appears that the delivery was delivered at 01-15 hours on the Sunday morning???contacting the seller they said to check with neighbours in case it was delivered to them , regardless of the fact that the notification was sent out at three in the morning??.
After getting back in touch with them and saying that if it was delivered by Royal Mail to a neighbour I should have received a red notice card from Royal Mail.
The case is now with PayPal and because of lack of communication from the seller it will now be escalated to a claim.
I’m glad that I used PayPal because of the payment promise for money back I feel sorry for the unfortunate people who have no credit card and pay through their bank.
Avoid using this service because it seems to be a Scam and the seller is telling blatant lies.
After a very short sharp email from myself the seller contradicted themselves by saying that they had posted it on the 17/12/25 and not as they mentioned that it was posted on the 13/12/25.
May I recommend that they should change their name to Pinocchio trading.
They may think that everyone is gullible.

I’ve checked this thoroughly and can confirm that your order was prepared & packaged on 13 December, collected by Royal Mail on 17 December, and then delivered successfully on 18 December at 11:52am. The early-morning notification you mentioned relates to Royal Mail’s internal tracking update, rather than the actual delivery time, which we appreciate can be confusing.

I can also see that the PayPal case was later closed, which suggests the item was ultimately received. If not, please do reach out to us and we'll be more than happy to assist.

We’re absolutely not a scam, and we never intentionally provide misleading information. Royal Mail delays during December are unfortunately outside of our control, but I’m sorry for how unclear and stressful this felt while it was ongoing.

If you would be willing to update your review now that the delivery has been confirmed, we would really appreciate it. We’re a small business and it genuinely helps others understand how situations like this are resolved.

Poor and slow delivery and…

Poor and slow delivery and communications. Orders intime for recipients birthday but delivery was delayed. Difficult to deal with.

Edit: Even though A Day In History have replied to this review, given the review was made on 8th December and their reply arrived on 23rd January, this only reinforces my review and the poor and slow communications they have.

This company will not respond to…

This company will not respond to emails. I made an error in my submission asking them to amend it and I will pay the charges. Absolutely nothing except taking my original £29.99 fee. Not acceptable given my politeness, they just come across as fraudulent. Would not recommend them
