Gone downhill quickly
This is such a shame, I have been using the Ruislip auction house for over forty years when it was owned by Peter Bainbridge, when the saleroom was always packed and it was fun to go there. Unfortunately now they seem to think they are Sothebys with a 30% commission rate. I have had a bit of a problem with entering some items which the female (who actually stated that it is her auction house) there who didn't didn't really want to offer my items for sale, but took it in, grudgingly after speaking to Ridley Partridge. On the auction day, I watched online, and when my item came up (which had a value put on by the auctioneers of £50 - £100) the bidding panel showed £30.00 but immediately Ridley asked for £10.00 and in the same breath (not even giving any online bidder the chance of bidding £10.00) he said no sale and moved on to the next lot. When I went to collect my goods, I had to wait for it to be re-boxed and while I was having a conversation with the staff, the aforementioned female started shouting derogatory comments from an upper level, which got me wound up, this ended up with one of her staff pushing me and her shouting at me to get out of her auction house. After some shouting by both parties, I finally left in a very irate mood, which is not usually my character. I'm afraid this place has gone down in my estimate, and several other people that I have spoken to. The fun has disappeared from the place, and you can no longer even get a cup of tea and a piece of cake, like the old days. I wish I could put zero stars

Thank you for your review, however, we strongly disagree with your comments and refute your allegations.
We have reviewed the CCTV footage and have discussed the matter at length with our colleagues who assisted you.
Your behaviour was unquestionably unacceptable including:
Violent and intimidating behaviour towards two colleagues.
Abusive and abhorrent language, including sexist language, towards a female colleague.
Violent actions causing damage to our fire door.
Dangerous driving in our car park.
We have telephoned you on several occasions to discuss this matter, but our calls have been unanswered. Furthermore, we have contacted you by email but have received no response.
Addressing your review in order:
Commission rate: This has not increased; it is the same as our predecessors.
Entering goods: You wished to consign printer cartridges into auction and were politely and correctly informed by our colleague that it is not what we sell in our Fine Art & Antique auctions. When you protested, she consulted the Auction Manger who, as a kindness to you, agreed to try them in the auction.
Auction day: There had been no pre-auction interest in the printer cartridges and the auctioneer opened them low to ascertain if there was any further interest, there was not, and your lot was passed.
Boxing: All ink cartridges were in their original boxes and given to you appropriately for collection. You asked for an additional larger box to put the boxes in, this was provided promptly by the colleagues assisting you.
Conversation with staff: You were asked, in an appropriate manner, that it would be best for you to leave the premises because you were upset and loudly protested how you would adversely affect our business.
Behaviour: The CCTV clearly shows you as the aggressor. You take three steps directly into the personal space of our colleague who was trying to assist you. Our colleagues were not physical with you.
Previous customer experience confirms that The London Saleroom has a proactive, friendly and accommodating team and culture, and the Fine Art, Antique, Collector’s and Specialist auctions continue to go from strength to strength and are definitely ‘going uphill’.

I recently had the pleasure of dealing with Ridley from AP Auctioneers and I must say, his exceptional service truly exceeded my expectations. Ridley is an absolutely amazing chap, and it was a delight dealing with him from the start. His professionalism and knowledge in the field are truly remarkable.
Ridley went above and beyond collecting my items on two different occasions, demonstrating his reliability and dedication to his work. His quick and efficient responses to emails were greatly appreciated, making the entire process smooth and stress-free.
I must also commend the entire team at AP Auctioneers, who clearly work together seamlessly to provide a top-notch service. It is evident that they are all dedicated to providing the best experience for their clients. I would not hesitate to recommend AP Auctioneers to anyone looking to sell.

Added 60 lots to a sale all happily accepted including a £ 5/7k item ignored withdrawals and reserves , failed to donate unsold to charity , Called my entries carboot rubbish , charity shop rubbish and done that to others ,seems to have high turn over of staff who are non complimentary of the owner , avoid at all possible far better firms around

POTENTIAL BUYERS BEWARE ------purchased 2 lots described asyellow metal { my understanding is that this term is used to indicate unmarked gold} from the RUISLIP branch via online auction site only to discover on testing that both contained zero gold ---- raised it with auctioneer to be told you are on your own there is nothing we can do to help approx £800 loss for myself including over £300 in fees to the auction house VERY POOR SERVICE --- BE WARNED PS If you have read the response to this post from the auctioneer then be advised that this is a very selective edit of my correspondence and discussions with their representatives and whilst factually accurate does not represent fairly your stance in my opinion --- on the positive side i would like to put on record my thanks to the Cheshire saleroom manager who contacted me by telephone and dealt with my complaint in a most courteous and professional manner

We understand that your review is based on your successful purchase of a brooch and a pair of earrings from our London Saleroom.
We take this opportunity to notify readers that your review is incorrect and incomplete.
Both lots were correctly described as "yellow metal," with no mention of "gold" in the descriptions. When you spoke with our National Manager, you stated that you had "made an assumption" that they were gold, an assumption that was incorrect.
Furthermore, you informed him that the description "had not intended to deceive," which is correct, as there was no deception.
The review is incomplete because it does not mention that the brooch and earrings were irrevocably damaged by yourself when they were broken down into their component parts. Items must be returned to us in the same condition in which they were purchased.
Therefore, your request to return the items was declined both because the description was accurate and because the items had been damaged after purchase.
We would also like to clarify that our colleague did not inform you that you are “on your own.”
Instead, the reason the items could not be returned was explained politely and thoroughly.

We understand that your review is prompted by an honest error in executing your commission bid of £45 for a garden bench at our Devon Saleroom.
When this error came to light our team acknowledged this, apologised, and investigated if a solution could be sought for you. Unfortunately, despite exhaustive efforts, this could not be achieved.
Following your review, our National Manager spoke with you to understand your views and experience to ascertain if any additional support could be achieved. They investigated on your behalf and, unfortunately, arrived at the same conclusion.
The manager of the Devon Saleroom invited you to look at two other garden benches consigned for the following auction explaining that they would support you with this should one of these suit your needs.
You are of course most welcome to any of our salerooms in the future, and should any item be of interest we are more than happy to support you with your bids either in person or by commission.

Postage takes a long time to organise.
The sale was conducted efficiently enough. However:
I brought my items on day 1 of a 3 day sale. I received the invoice the day after the sale ended (i.e. day 4), then had to complete an online form for postage. Nothing for a further two days, when the postage quote arrived....effectively a week after the sale. The good Lord knows when I shall receive the goods!
Contrast that with another lot purchased on the same day (also a 3 day sale) from a different auction house. They rang me the same evening, I paid over the phone, and the goods were despatched the next day, arriving the day after.

We are pleased to hear you found the sale process efficient but wanted to address the concerns you raised. We typically send invoices after the full auction ends to accommodate customers bidding throughout the event. However, you were welcome to request your invoice earlier if needed, which is something to consider for future sales.
Regarding your postage request, we received your form on Saturday 17th August (a non-working day), and provided your quote on Monday 19th August, the first working day following the auction. Your item was delivered on 21st August, just three working days after the auction concluded.
We understand the process felt lengthy, but we believe this timeline to be more than reasonable.
Thank you again for your feedback, and we hope to assist you in the future.
