My wife has a mobility scooter which…

My wife has a mobility scooter which was brought from able world in lincoln lincolnshire. It broke and it wouldn't work. It went in to be repaired and we paid for the repair to be done. We collected it and the first time she went to use it 'it wouldn't work. When my wife calling able world regards this , she was told to push it. How can this reply be appropriate when someone cant walk on there own with out oxygen at times to be told to push a mobility scooter when it breaks down.

Hi Dave, we do always try to fault find with a customer over the phone in the first instance of a fault being highlighted. In many cases, our over the phone support can resolve a lot of issues to help support our customers quickly, without the need for an engineer’s inspection.

Great experiences.

Have now purchased a stairlift from Ableworld Southampton and a mobility scooter from Christchurch. Really friendly, knowledgable and helpful service. Hard to recommend them too highly.

Helpful and knowledgeable staff and wide product range

My wife and I went into the Wigan branch to look at a rollator for her.
On our first visit Julie demonstrated the models available and gave good advice. We went away to consider and returned to meet Julie and Peter. Both were extremely helpful. At no stage was there any pressure.
We went in last year to look at options for mobility and then too Julie gave us good advice.
So 5 stars all round from us.

Disappointing Staff Experience


My wife & I visited your Paisley store this morning to purchase a walker for my 90-year-old mother, who accompanied us so that she could try out the various models before we made a purchase.
Unfortunately, we found both members of staff to be very unhelpful throughout our visit.
For example, we asked one staff member how to safely fold the walker and how my mother should correctly sit on it and use the brakes. Rather than coming over to demonstrate, the staff member remained standing behind the till and verbally instructed us from a distance. As this was the first time we had looked at walkers for my mother, who is very frail, we wanted to ensure that she could operate it safely and confidently before purchasing. A proper demonstration of how to apply the brakes, collapse the walker, and open it again would have been the level of assistance we expected.
A second example was when we asked another staff member about the difference between the £79.99 and £84.99 walkers. We were told that the seat height was adjustable. When we then asked to see the more expensive model and how the adjustment worked, the response was simply that the side bolts could be removed to adjust the height, followed by the comment, “but you don’t need that.” Again, there was no attempt to properly demonstrate the product or assist my mother in trying it.
Once my wife, mother, and I returned to the car, we all commented on the same thing — the lack of customer care and support shown by the staff.
The walker itself is fine; however, we were also disappointed to discover that the bold prices displayed in-store were ex-VAT prices. This meant the final price of the walker was £15.99 more expensive than the displayed price, which was not immediately clear.
Given that mobility aids are purchased by elderly and often vulnerable customers, I would have expected a much more supportive, patient, and hands-on approach from staff.

If you feel that you were not provided with a full demonstration of the products available to you, or if any of your queries remain unanswered, we would be happy to arrange a further demonstration for you and your relatives. This can be organised directly with the store by calling 0141 889 9925 or by visiting the store again at your convenience.
With regards to VAT exemption, the majority of the products we stock are eligible for VAT relief. We therefore aim to make it clear throughout our in-store marketing that, where applicable, displayed prices are VAT-exempt prices. The process for claiming VAT exemption is quick and straightforward, and our team will always ask customers whether they would like to complete the exemption process if they have a qualifying long-term disability or medical condition

Happy customer

Hi I visited your Woolston, Southampton, Hampshire store with my mum on Friday 15th of May. Mum needed a new single recliner and we were helped by Dean, who couldn’t have been more helpful, guided us on the best chair suitable for my mum. We went to Newport to buy a recliner…

We went to Newport to buy a recliner and received excellent service. Sam the assistant manager was absolutely brilliant . He was very knowledgeable, patient and kind. I would not hesitate to recommend them.

I have been paying almost £20 per month…

I have been paying almost £20 per month for yearly servicing. It's been well over a year now. When I rang to see when my service was going to happen I was told I would be put on a list and the wait would be about 12 weeks!
In effect I've paid almost £240 for nothing!

We visited abelworld Southampton in…

We visited abelworld Southampton in November last year and bought a abelworld Apex Amulite.
I have been using it in and around Southampton for the last 6 months, after having neurosurgery on my lower back.
We spoke and bought the mobility scooter though Dean. He gave us the run through and we've had no problems with it.
It has helped me greatly since being over here. I shall be leaving it here with family as I may just need it again 😃.

Simply the best.

My wife and I called at Ableworld Wigan recently and were greeted by Peter and Julie. We only popped in to buy a walking stick but the attention we received from both was quite exemplary. You could never meet a more friendly, courteous and knowledgeable couple. Many, many, thanks to both.

Julie & Peter were amazing!

Julie & Peter were amazing. I took my mum there to get a stroller. We looked at multiple strollers and because mum has two steps up to her house they constructed a makeshift step for her to maneuver over. This allowed us to establish any possible issues she may have. We tried several and although not the cheapest, we brought one after being at the store for 2 hours. Julie & Peter provided constructive reasoning as to which stroller would suit mum best and now she has a new lease of life, feeling stable whilst walking, and managing to get the stroller in and out of the house. Just wanted to say a big thank you to both of Peter & Julie for being understanding and patient. Could not recommend them enough.

Took mum today to get a new lighter…

Took mum today to get a new lighter scooter- store manager Andrea and also Julie were both fantastic and knowledgeable in helping us choose and appropriate scooter!! Andrea was just brilliant took the time to help mum and guided her in trying different models!!! Cannot thank you you enough for making it an enjoyable and stress free experience for my mum

My brother recently bought a mobility…

My brother recently bought a mobility scooter from the Wigan store. The staff were extremely helpful and gave him genuine advice without trying to push any of their products. I would recommend them to anyone.

At last some response but should not have been needed to chase.

Further to my previous review where I had heard nothing more about my complaint in spite of being promised to phone back.
I have today again been in touch and asked to speak to a Manager.
The person I spoke to said a letter had been sent but not received, to say they had now decided to replace the unit only free of charge, to enable the foot rest to be adjusted safely for use.
A suggestion I had put to them.
If I hadnt been aware of the risk it could have been dangerous and should have surely been checked after installation.
But now give them credit for listening to my complaint. Graham J

I had a wheelchair that needed a brake…

I had a wheelchair that needed a brake service & check over before our travel abroad. No time to book it in .Stephen kindly made time to do the service & reassuring all was good.
I dealt with Matt a few days later when purchasing a chair for my husband. Again very helpful with advice & patient with his customer. Very pleased with Ableworld staff in Cheltenham.

Totally Unreliable Ableworld Stairlift

The engineers who come to repair our Ableworld stairlift are lovely. We know several of them quite well now, as the stairlift has been breaking down at least every three weeks for many months now. We have had to go onto their 'gold' service.which gives 24/7 coverage for breakdowns. which is expensive and we still don't have a reliable stailift. This week it has broken down three times so far.

Amazing and kind service from Dean

First time visit

The store manager at Northwich Cheshire served me today and she was amazing. Explained everything to me clearly and she was very knowledgeable. No pressure selling. I was buying my 1st mobility scooter. Can highly recommend.
