This is a tricky review to write. There are heroes, and mysteries. Settle in...
I'll start with the plan. We needed a shower room, mostly for use by our disabled son. The Wickes service offered the right shower, raised loo, controls, nonslip surfaces, etc etc. And, their marketing tells customers this: "From planning and design to installation and aftercare, we’ll help you through every step of your journey."
Except that's not what happened.
Hero 1 - the designer. He has gone out of his way to 'pick up the pieces' from the stock picking and delivery services, who delivered a random set of goodness knows what to us, at equally random intervals, some broken, some the wrong part entirely, etc.
Mystery - the store manager. We wanted a very simple thing to give an answer to, but the Designer wasn't there and nor were any design colleagues. We asked the store manager. He told us he was going to ask someone to assist. Didn't. Just left us standing for ages. Took no interest whatsoever in anything his store was doing, or assisting anyone in the design side of things. Felt like we'd stepped into interdepartmental hostilities somehow.
Hero 2 - the Installer. An independent contractor who was magnificent - he took on the challenge of putting together an actual shower room as per the design, using skill, judgement, shopping for parts himself, and working with us to sort out endless problems from the Wickes central end of things.
Mystery: Customer support are divided into some sort pre, during and post-installation teams. They don't really work together, or with any other department, as far as I can tell. One ignored us completely for the first few weeks, only answered about one contact in five from us, and then told us info that was just plain wrong for much of it.
There was a third hero - one of the post-installation customer people who took ownership of the last of the extraordinary situations we'd been left with, and worked with the Designer to get it sorted.
Elapsed time, weeks longer than originally forecast.
Can I recommend them generally, based on our experience? No, afraid not. Though the designer was great, and the contractor was a find. We were just sad that our disabled son had so many weeks of disruption that he couldn't really cope with, though no fault of the heroes in this. If we'd known that Wickes don't really offer a 'design and build' service, we'd have done it all very differently and just paid for the design, then found our own contractor. Worth a thought for others perhaps.

Nina was a star I was having trouble loading my Wickes trade pro app due to internet issues, Nina quickly got me connected while helping a college with there issues.

Was served at Wickes in Winnersh by Nina. The service was impeccable. She was Friendly, very kind and pleasant.
She helped me get a trade account as well which helps get a nice discount too..
The service was so good that it actually made a great impression..
She's a great example of what customer service should be like..

Had a great visit today which just made me smile. Laura on the checkout asked what I was up to when she saw the new paint rollers I had. I explained my decorating project and she offered a great little life hack which uses Pringle tubes to store paint rollers overnight without having to wash them out. It really works!! Laura was so pleasant and engaging that it really made a difference. Well done to her 😊

Highly recommend Gordon’s kitchen design services at Wickes, Winnersh. Super helpful, knows his stuff, really understood what I was looking for and didn’t oversell or steer! Plus, he’s just an all-round really nice guy to deal with :)

Also impressed with my kitchen fitting team, very polite and friendly, with decades of experience. Completed the kitchen reno quickly and accurately.

Overall a super smooth process from initial idea to completion and I’m thrilled with the results. Definitely recommend Wickes at Winnersh if you’re thinking of refitting your kitchen.

Poor service experience

I had a disappointing experience with the Winnersh branch. A staff member called me during working hours to cancel my appointment and then asked me what I wanted to design before even discussing the appointment properly.

When I asked for an estimated cost for installing a walk-in shower and tiling, I received a very vague response that it would be "above £10,000" without any detailed explanation or quotation.

In contrast, the Slough branch provided excellent service. The staff there were helpful, professional, and much more willing to discuss options and costs in detail.

Based on my experience, the level of customer service at the Winnersh store was far below the standard I received from the Slough branch.

I came in a few weeks ago to the Winnersh Wickes to get some bits to freshen up my front door. I was a little clueless on some parts I needed and 2 days in a row the wonderful Nina was there to take the time to help me find all the parts I needed around the store. She was so helpful, so friendly, and made me feel completely at ease. She deserves a payrise! There are not enough Nina's in this world.
Great customer service, and also super helpful when returning parts I needed to exchange too.

Hi, we have recently had a new kitchen, bathroom and downstairs cloakroom all designed by Wickes and they did a great job. We had the Kitchen fitted by them aswell but not the bathrooms. Max Goodison was our design consultant for the bathrooms and did a great job.

Nina served myself, she was very helpful. Knew her stuff, when i asked a few questions. She answered them like a professional. So Ten out 10 to Nina and the wonderful staff at the Winnersh Branch.

I want to thank and praise the shop assistant Nina who was on the till as we approached with a large quantity of heavy purchases
My helper lady was pushing the wheelchair and we were talking about how she can manage my chair and also take the goods out to the car.
Nina immediately realised the problem and arranged someone to take our purchases to the car and also came out to help loading in the car.
She is an asset to the stores. People like her make what the store stands for

Gordon Goodison has designed our cloak room and he has provided a great customer services. He has a great understanding and product knowledge. I am very impressed the way he helped me and provided me support.

Went to Winersh store today i am a trade member and have been for a few years now and receive weekly deals on a Sunday for the week but for some reason I didn’t have the app so was always hassle to get my discount on today’s visit i explained to the lovely lady at the till and she went out of her way to help me through the process of downloading the app so everything worked for me been there hundreds of times before and no one ever helped so a very big thank you to NINA.

I was looking for a particular type of E14 light bulb. I went to Wickes, Winnersh to buy this. A member of staff, Nina, was most helpful in checking the price and locating the article for me.

This is a review for Red Dragon the installation company not Wickes. My contact was Simon, who kept me updated throughout the works. The installers were polite, efficient and always cleaned up every evening before leaving. I am extremely happy with my bathroom and would highly revommt

Shopping for items to refurbish my kitchen. The bespoke kitchen and bathroom design staff were very helpful in ideas and helping me buy. The result- Wickes got the bulk of my purchase

Fantastic process from start to finish. Lucy at Wickes in Winnersh was an amazing designer who put a huge amount of thought into helping us design our perfect kitchen. The contractors they recommended - Red Dragon with Simon as the boss were amazing. Punctual, polite and have done a fantastic job. We are delighted with the outcome and will definitely use both in the future.

We had a new bathroom fitted with bath, walk-in shower, cabinets and sink unit. We chose Wickes after receiving bids from three different companies. Wickes were great value, not the cheapest, but we are so pleased with the finished product. Max at Wickes in Winnersh did a great design and went through several options with us.
The installers were Red Dragon Ltd and these guys were amazing. The quality of workmanship was outstanding. The tiling work was truly remarkable and very cleverly done. Overall, there was great attention to detail. The installer (Claudio) was friendly, hard-working and courteous at all times. He was also very particular about cleanliness, carefully vacuuming at the end of every day. Simon (the boss) was friendly and approachable all the way through. Thank you Simon and the Red Dragon team.
We will definitely use Wickes + Red Dragon again as we have another bathroom due for a makeover soon.
The whole project exceeded our expectations. I recommend them both without hesitation.

We are renovating our bathroom and Max from the Winnersh branch worked with us on the design and quote. He did a fantastic job! Working and reworking the specs and offering great advise and continuous follow up through the whole process. Max is knowledgable, patient and thorough in his approach, and he has a great attitude.
