Today my elderly mother inlaw went into the whangarei westpac branch as she had 600k to invest. She had the latest investment rates shoved in her face and told to do it online as it was simple. The lady she was dealing with appeared more interested in having lunch with her work colleague than helping a customer. This is disgusting behavior and I will be advising her to change banks
Incompetent staff, unreliable service
Customer service guy was condescending and couldn't even activate a replacement credit card. Completely incompetent bank.

Would give 0 star if I could. Worst bank in New Zealand. Have been trying the last few days to contact them via the 0800 number and everytime I have to opt for a call back as the wait time has been 2 hours or more. Everytime you are transferred there is another wait of an hour or more. The people you talk to don't seem to know what they are doing and ask stupid questions. At times you wonder if the 0800 staff are even in New Zealand and whether you can trust them when they do a security check. Some of them don't even introduce themselves and you wonder if you are about to hand over your security info to a scammer. I don't see this bank lasting much longer in New Zealand as the rate they are going they'll soon have no customers. The branches are just as bad as there is usually a queue a mile long to see anyone as the braches are open such limited hours. What was once a good New Zealand bank is now absolute rubbish. Avoid this bank at all costs. I am now going to another bank which offers much better interest rates than what Westpac can offer and I am not having the same issues with them.
The Worst of the Worst - and then some !!!
I have just returned from my local Westpac branch at Ferrymead after waiting for over 1 hour just to make a cash deposit. Firstly, the cash deposit machine was out of service, then it rebooted but after several attempts to feed the notes, it spat them all out again. I waited in the queue of 3 people for about 50 minutes.
Westpac management should be publicly shamed for the appalling state of the service that they offer.

Wanted to set up a business account and they were useless it felt like they didn't even want me to be a client, no effort into helping me with my querries taking a week at a time to reply, absolutely shocking customer service. Westpac Kerikeri and Kaitaia.Kerikeri wouldnt accept payment on invoice because it wasnt bar coded yep thats right.Gave the subby the bill in cash in stead.Westpac Kaitaia only open mon wed and fri 4 hours each time with 2 tellers .This is a bank that has the IRD agency so i would expect service along same hours as normal business but no 4 hours per day 3 days per week.Told the manager what i thought of her bank and she replied you will never hold an account here,yep you damn right i wont. Crap product crap service ,the mcdonalds of the banking industry.

Absolutely the worst customer service ever! Still waiting to hear back about my home loan top up application from November 2021. My fixed rate ran out Feb 10th, but I'm yet to be offered a new fixed rate. Now I would just like my break costs and exit fees so I can leave this bank 😐

But the service dished out to a frail clearly somewhat confused elderly lady.

i am a 72 yr old pensioner i had mistakenly transfered my food money into the wrong acct it was an acct that i couldnt withdraw from. i rang Westpac but they said they couldn't help me i told them i have no food and needed the money --- nope no can do.i went into a branch same story no we cant help you.i was in tears but they didn't care.when i got home i rang them again and a lovely lady put me through to a very nice supervisor who said go back to the branch give them my name and they will transfer for you. i went back to our branch and again the wouldn't help me. The manager was very rude as was the cashier who both said they wont do the transfer for me i asked to use the phone and rang the supervisor who gave me her direct line,she sorted them both out and the money was immediately transferred to my account to go get some food shopping. The manager and cashier both took the stance of being control bullies but soon got told off buy supervisor i was so happy that one dear lady took the time to help me
Frustrating, irritating, time wasters - WAKE-UP
My Experience applying for a basic credit card with a very modest credit limit. I bank with Westpac, applied on-line through personal online banking, I have a good income with an average mortgage as debt only, my partner also earns a salary. My credit rating is "excellent".
Online form asked me all the standard Q's: income, expenditure etc. etc. "Congratulations you pre-qualify" based on info. supplied etc.
Then, I receive a call; Westpac would like to discuss my application, "it will take around an hour" (mistake 1- seriously) I state I not prepared to spend 'an additional hour' justifying something I really don't 'desperately need'.
Following day, without the 'interview', I am "congratulated" again I qualify (mistake 2 - patronising).
3 days later card duly received (that was good), which states I have to go into a Westpac branch to activate the card (no issue with some due diligence) but I must provide proof of income (mistake 3), identity and set-up my PIN, which I set-up online with the application anyway. Note all my money passes through my Westpac account anyway, showing salary and who pays it for the last consistent 6 years monthly (by a large well known corporate company) the online application asked me this anyway if this went through mt WP account.
Surprise, surprise, I am expected to do this by driving to a branch, only open Tuesday and Thursday 2-4 p.m. (mistake 4) Bite my lip and make the trip with said 'evidence' and, here we are in 2022, the branch physically photocopies my salary slips onto 'paper', not even scanned (mistake 5). I can scarcely believe we live in an age of technological breakthroughs and yet Westpac just wants to make the process as protracted and time wasting and non-environmentally friendly as they possibly can - 'congratulations' Westpac, another customer not won over.
Very frustrating service.
Very frustrating when phone staff advised me I could walk into a local Westpac & receive a replacement new card. Then when I take time off to do so I find, I can’t so frustrating & time wasting.

I'm leaving this good review for one of your employees named Farooque, awesome guy, so helpful and informative, explained things so well so that I understood, very thorough, offered services that would best suit me and that could fit around my budget ensuring I wouldn't get into any hardship, felt comfortable and well looked after, and all round good dude with a sense of humor, thank you so much Westpac! I have been banking with Westpac.Co.NZ for many years FOC getting my pension paid into my Westpac current account.
The service received is still professional, but my local branch is permanently closed, and I have to travel 1/2 hour by car to solve some issues personally, like handling cash. The other local banks owned by Australian banks are also permanently closed, giving Kiwibank in the Post Shop an advantage.

Shocking customer service
Shocking customer service. After 30 years I've had enough. Try to interact with them as little as possible. However tonight while trying to set up a new payee, something went wrong and I'm now totally locked out of my online banking. Tried to call the hotline only to be told they are too busy to take calls today and to ring back tomorrow. Why bother having a hotline if you can't service it
Oh yay..will have to visit a branch tomorrow. That means taking a day off work to fit in with their hours and having to put up with underpaid overworked rude staff. Can't wait.
Not what they used to be
Terrible service and little care for long term customers. ok bank for a simple account, but not worth the hassle if you are interested in credit cards or investments. Moving away from them as this plus poor customer service has really become an issue for them. Sad as they used to be pretty good.
