crap do not join. I had trouble at work and needed their help, haven't heard back for weeks and keep getting passed around

Bullying Distribution workers at Tesco into Industrial action. Loss of pay to employees and bonus. I paid into this union for 32 years, they did nothing for me. All issues I had during that time were resolved by myself and my manager.

No help!! Waste of membership money

My husband worked for Sainsbury’s for 14 years and was deducted a union fee for UDSAW monthly. Dispute having an accident at work, the union did nothing. This was 5 years ago. Since then I have contacted them many times in an attempt to get him out of the union, asked that his fees be refunded and still they continued to take the money but no action!!! Please do not join as they are no help at all!!!

Usdaw reps try to make membership worthwhile, but thats not what I think. I work for a major company in the uk that were not only breaching my contract but their management actions broke the law and did not care! This was ar a time when the UK Goverment charged to to take a case to tribunal which has now being deamed unlawful. Citizens advice looked at my case and told me what I already knew and declared that I would win my case easily but it could cost me more than £1000 if I remember correctly I think it was £1250 and the judge did not have to award costs or give me my job back. I saw a women in the staff room sitting away from everyone not speaking to anyone in the staffroom. Someone who knew who she was asked me to speak to her as she knew she was from usdaw. I did and was disgusted to to hear the women say she did not say anything because she did not want to upset the management!

That tells me a lot. I was offered a free will as well as other offers if I joined the union. I did join but the will that was offered was not worth the paper it was written on because it id all done oneline and no signature are witnessed. that may be ok for some if you have family/friends but I have neither. I took it to a high street solicitor who refused to witness my signature because they had not drafted the will in the first place. The law on fees being paid for tribunals has now being recinded and for me at least the will was useless joining I consider was a waste of money. I think I was better off just saving the union dues that would have being paid in a savings account. Usdaw phoned me a number of times whist I was a member to to sell me other products, and they never did help me with my original problem!

Please don’t join them if your thinking of working for Tesco they won’t help you one bit I’ve experienced it myself they knew all about my issues before I even spoke to the union usdaw they are always on the managements side be warned!! 😡

After over 20 years of membership I have left it! The one time I needed help from them after being scapegoated by my managers at Sainsbury's, they did nothing. Our UNION rep was worse than useless and spent more time creeping up to the management that she was supposed to be helping defend me against!!! Even the area rep (Eastern Region) did nothing but say, not much we can do really. Seeing as USDAW did nothing, I've wasted my subs for the past 20 years!!! Even when I emailed them to tell them I wanted to cancel my membership, they didn't even ask why!!! They don't care about their members and are a complete joke. No wonder these big companies walk all over their workforce with next to know representation. To anyone thinking of joining, don't bother because you'll be on your own when push comes too shove!!! Worst union ever!!!!

They have no interest in helping workers. They left me a week before my court case because I rejected half of the money I'm really owed as a settlement. Stay away from them!! They will switch you from one person to another, nobody will deal with your case for good sake. Avoid avoid avoid!

Horrible. I have dealt with harassment from management at my place of work due to my disability. Not once, in 5 years, could I get our union officer to come help. They are a lot of hot air. No action. When I did have to contact the union officer, he was short and rude and made it clear he had no interest in helping. I used the legal help after suffering an injury at work that required surgery to fix. After 3 years of waiting for the legal team to pull their finger out, the decided they can’t help me. Completely useless and incompetent, the lot of them. They only care about taking your money. I’ll be speaking to a solicitor about getting my money back.

Totally incompetent, only interested in you joining up so they get money from you. If you need to join a union, make sure it’s not Usdaw. Even the general secretary “Paddy Lillis” does not respond to you when you appeal a decision.

Waste of time and money,made to feel like your the problem,it seems that they work in the best interest of Tesco instead of for you. Frustrated as haven't been able to get any further with a manger breaking my grievance. I just have to deal with my creepy manger or leave. Been made to feel like I'm just being difficult or blowing this out of proportion was hung up on phone by the rep and kinda told off because my husband called head office to complain about this whole situation. It was basically told have to comply or I'll be isolating myself seems as though they can't do much next best thing is take it outside of store. I have no trust in usdaw reps the staff in my store have no trust in the reps there as they all know that they are very biased as they are very chummy with management. I was told by colleague that usdaw are a waste of time and work for Tesco best interest. I now realise having been through my very serious matter that they were right this is definitely the case. I do not recommend them I don't and didn't feel protected throughout my whole situation. Usdaw at Tesco are a complete shambles. I'm leaving and joining the GMB as I have been told by colleagues and my husband that they are better.

Not worth the money all they do is take your money and sit on their backside. As for their solicitors when they find out they don't get 25% they except the offer and you have no say and get the cheque

Very dissapointing.
Local rep at Gloucester did not seem to want to get involved in a case of extreme zero hours employment abuse. I was abused, goaded, insulted, demeenered, difficulty getting holiday pay and works pension scheme. Every day it was a struggle to contain my temper and I just had to leave before I lost my temper and did something rash.
Local reps advice was to open a case against them but did not seem to want to get involved, or tell me how to open a case.
This was at GARDINER Bros (Leathers) ltd, also known as FOOTSURE / UNIQUEMIX / AMBLERS at Quedgely businesses park, Hardwicke, Glos.
I decided that my membership was a waste of money.
I joined THE WORKERS UNION, who are far more sympathetic to my continuing fight against victimisation, goading and harassment in the ZERO HOURS workplace.

I felt really let down by this union I was with this union for seven and a half years when I worked with tesco who said you should join there union I was a team leader I was threatened by another team leader and management done nothing and neither did the union and when management got staff to lie about stuff that never happened the union said there was nothing they could do but still took my payments even when I was suspended and there legal team never even got in touch about anything that was going on but just told the rep that there lawyers wouldn't be much help and were based in Manchester when I live in Scotland I went to a lawyer and was told they couldn't help because of the affliction with the union the lawyer told only way I could get represention was to go to the law society to find a lawyer that didn't represent a union and when i was payed off I asked if I could still be in the union by paying my dues myself to stay in the union they still took my fee and then cut all ties and never helped one bit but will take your money stay away from this union go and find another union as this one is a non striking union so they have no clot and will back down every time they have no mouth and do nothing but take money

Been with USDAW for 5 years, since working for Tesco, I've found my reps helpful and informative. The regional rep has been I to our store also. I've benefited from many of the services, including a very competitive content insurance. The free will writing service, never bothered to co tact me. Otherwise a fantastic organisation.

I paid them well over 1000 pounds over the years and what I get was being grassed up by jelous reps on site. You doing some "better" job than one of them? They speak to your manager straight away. You doing some overtime? They question it to manager as well. You need some help? Can't do anything for you. Sad to say so but it all probability happened because I'm forefinger. Can't justify spending my money for their services anymore, left today, mainly because of reps on site.

I am not a member but have often sought the opinions of the representatives in store.They are always pleased to answer any questions.
However I feel Usdaw have been really silent re. Covid and the Supermarkets along with the U.K.govt.
Rules not being enforced and this union has let them get away with it.
You need more forceful shop stewards at local levels for a start.
I would never join your union until you speak up more.

Surprised by all the bad reviews. I can't fault them. They've always answered all my questions and I was accompanied to two meetings by a rep one of which saw my withheld CSP reinstated which i don't believe would have happened without my rep. I'm so glad I joined USDAW. My company does not generally recognise unions and we are not encouraged to join them as we gave an internal one however that is always on the side of the business. USDAW is in my corner.

The worst union to join, please do not waste your money by joining in to Usdaw union may be you can deal it better without them. I have been paying for this union last 2 years and recently I had to seek for a help to sort out my sick pay which I couldn’t do it internally. I have emailed so many time but they never replied me instead they call me but never get sorted and the case worker goes on holiday but you never get informed and you have to chase all the time. Since November I have been trying to sort out my sick pay issue and the union never helped me. If you call Usdaw head office to make a complaint about the local office they saying I have to raise this complaint to local office. The worst union to Join.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!

I joined because I was being bullied at my retail job by the managers and they just said to hand a “fair use” form to them!!! Took £10 a month for doing absolutely nothing!!! Didn’t support me when I tried to get paid for my 2 weeks isolation for covid.

And continued to take 3 months worth after I cancelled :)
