Been with usdaw for 10 years never asked for anything, just been told our nightshift is being binned ..union now where to be seen not even heard from them .
Alltheyve done is kept us on minimum wage ..apparently they have a no strike agreement with morrisons...
Doctors nurses ambulance drivers trains can strike ..but if you put a tin of beans out your not allowed..after working all through lockdown..literally putting our lives at risk .
Avoid usdaw at all cost .put the money in a tin and use it for your own pay rise

With the recent insane inflation, rising bills and rents, you'd think the union would encourage striking like the rest of the country is doing - but no - they somehow encouraged enough of their members to accept minimum wage. We work in a business owned by billionaires!

Very Poor Service & Support.

A widow was refused £925 death benefit for her husband, after providing his Will & Death certificate.

Payment was paid into the bank account of the individual who registered the death NOT the widow.

Usdaw refused to send proof of payment to the policy holders registered home address.

Below is USDAW final conclusion :-

As the Deputy Head of this department, the escalated complaints are my responsibility.  Usdaw is not under any obligation to issue a confirmation payment of claim letter. As previously stated, Usdaw’s grants are not governed by probate or any other government legislation.

 Any correspondence regarding the payment would have been issued to the credible beneficiary to whom the payment was made.

There is no recourse for any further payment and the Union has acted in accordance with its policy for payment of the Death Grant. As such, I will now consider the matter closed.

Absolutely unreliable!! 48 hours notice warning of a very serious disaplinary, call them and get told someone will call back within 24 hours......24 hrs later nothing, another 12 hours later and 3 more calls still no adequate answer, the receptionist advised delaying the company to give usdaw more time to respond. Last I heard on the 4th call, the 1 person to phone me was in meetings until 4pm, such a big union with only 1 rep? Have been paying them for years and nothing to show for it, when your backs against the wall and you need them to help your case there is only 1 rep and they can't even get him to call. I suffer from learning disabilities and the last thing I need is the stress of paying for support that doesn't exist!! I seriously do not wish anyone else to go through this and found these reviews helpful in looking to find out what to do, so as thanks I'm adding my experience.

I am utterly disappointed with the subscription service I have been dealing with for the past five months. Despite my repeated attempts to cancel my subscription, they have continued to deduct money from my wage without any valid reason. I have called and emailed them multiple times, and while they talk politely on the phone, their promises of sending a refund letter have amounted to nothing. This company is far from trustworthy, and I strongly advise everyone to avoid them.

It is evident that their loyalty lies with the company rather than supporting their own staff. They seem to be more interested in on-site promotions to attract more subscriptions, leaving the members' concerns and complaints unanswered and unresolved. This behaviour showcases a complete lack of professionalism and ethical conduct.

In conclusion, I regret ever subscribing to this service. Their disregard for customer satisfaction and their inability to process cancellations efficiently make them a company to avoid at all costs. I hope others heed this warning and choose a more reputable and customer-oriented service instead.

Stay well clear of this “union” they just want to take your money and don’t provide a level of standards you’d expect for a paying member.
They almost always side with employers or rather have their interests as priority.
If they offer you “legal” advice, be prepared to be passed over to incompetent legal assistants that ignore crucial details, are dismissive of corrections and overall neglectful.
Any concerns or complaints you have fall on deaf ears, so don’t think you’ll be heard.
Overall I would save your money and find a better union, you’ll only be deeply saddened that when you eventually come to need help, the false promises they claim never come to fruition.

When I needed them they just wanted to get rid of me. They are useless and no help at all.
Also I cancelled my membership months and months ago they are still taking money out of my pay. I’m so annoyed 😡

Terrible... joined as was advised due to having a hard time at work, know the union won't support in this issue (was pregnancy related) didn't ask for support with this...
Bit down the line I have a different pregnancy related issue so go to them... they won't support and questioned why I'd joined... maybe as I'm pregnant and though I could do with the support, and basically told me any issue I have for the next few months they won't be able to help with cos all pregnancy related issues would classify as the same issue... my issue before starting with them was due to discrimination which I believe is different to an issue related to job related stress (not at all a function of discrimination, and requires different advice I believed)
The other advice offered a 3 year old could tell you... here are your rights (which included nothing at all related to my situation) and you need a risk assessment (one I'd already told them I'd had, and told them the outcome of). Ridiculously poor advice and service
And them questioning why I'd join was just extremely rude and uncaring, I will be cancelling immediately and feel they really need to look at the way they treat people given many of the people that will come to them will be coming to them when vulnerable!

Waste of time you need to chase them down for a rep they completely ignore you .they taking money from everyone and doing nothing to justify it . Government needs to shut them down

Please, avoid them at any cost and don't waste your money on them. They are absolutely useless in pay rise negotiation and in representation if you need one. Either they come at the meeting and stay quiet as a stone or they just ignore you and don't even bother to assist you.

Complete waste of money. The pay raises "they get you" are just the first one that the company offer and with the negatives that usually come with it you end up losing out.

First time using them and cancelling my membership absolutely no help at all i new more than rep absolute joke

Have had to use USDAW on several occasions concerning issues with my supervisor and although the first representative was good, the second was appalling. Spoke to me like I was stupid, asked me rather intrusive questions, kept repeating herself as if I didn't hear her the first time, even put the phone down on me and I was pleasant to her. Very chummy with my manager when I had a grievance meeting, and her attitude towards me was that I 'should keep my head down'. Will contact USDAW about my issues with Joan Gale as she does not have my best interests at heart.

Waste of money, if you get in any trouble and phone call Usdaw all they do is giving a phone number to call which is a solicitor ,lawyer, agent, insurer etc. to call yourself and explain what’s your problem tho😂 they’re not giving any legal advice’s. I did ask for more than one issue in few phone calls in different ways to find out if they are doing what they advertising. No offence but not trusted, sorry.

When you get a 50p pay rise but the company takes your Sunday time and a half away as a response.... Are your really getting a pay rise? Every single time without fail the pay rise comes and more is taken leaving us with less. And this union does not fight it.

As someone who joined to be a rep it was clear to see in the first few meetings with the 'big guy' that this union is in the giants pockets. Anything that i recommended or put forward was squashed with pathetic excuses. Needless to say i did not continue to be a rep for them.

Completely useless. Fold over to employer demands quicker than wet cardboard. Total waste of money, and honestly can't see where all the subscription money goes, but we can all guess ey Lillis.

The 7 month experience I have had with this 'union' is nothing short of terrible. I have requested their assistance on one personal matter which they assured me could be dealt with by way of their legal advice service, the advice was 'get a family lawyer.' Also on one workplace matter, they took my complaint and assured me they would raise it with my employer and get back to me, after 3 months I am still waiting for the update. I have been trying to cancel for what feels like an age, I have requested to cancel no less than 3 times all to no avail so far.

Only a 1 star because 0 isnt an option.

I paid in to the union for nearly a decade and saw no support from them, only more and more problems which were never tackled or even addressed properly in a way that would begin to help the members.

Spineless union who live in the pockets of retail giants. Heard long ago that they signed a deal whereby they would never take strike action, leaving the shop floor staff powerless to being bent over a barrel and having increasingly more work forced on them with compensation falling further and further behind.

Dont join usdaw, if you do want to give it away, I suggest homeless charities, toilet paper, or even make a bonfire you'd get more benefit from giving it away that way
