Do not hire Transfer Service Rome
I ended up with this service booking through Jayride. I was to be picked up at Rome seaport on the morning of Thursday, 9/15/22 to be driven to Rome Airport to fly back to the states at 12:50 that same day. My Jayride transfer email had the pickup date but not the pickup time, so on 9/12/22 I had a Royal Caribbean (RCI) customer service rep call Transfer Service Rome from sea to coordinate the time of my pickup. As I stood by the customer service desk I heard the rep tell Transfer Service Rome that the the ship would begin disembarking at 7:30. When the call ended, the RCI customer service rep told me that Transfer Service Rome said their driver would only wait 30 minutes for me to disembark and then he/she would leave. The RCI rep tried to assure me that I could meet this arbitrary timeframe but I felt uncomfortable with having just 30 minutes to disembark with hundreds of other passengers coupled with my need to be at Rome airport NLT 9:50 (Turns out the RCI rep’s assurance, while well intentioned, turned out to be wrong and it was almost 8 o’clock before disembarkation was allowed to begin, it was mass chaos at the disembarkation exit and I would have missed this ride). A couple of hours later, but we’ll outside the 48 hour cancellation time, I had the RCI rep call Transfer Service Rome back so I could cancel and I got on the phone. The gentleman I talked to spoke little English, was extremely rude, told me to send him a message to cancel, said goodbye in Italian and hung up. I immediately followed up with a cancellation email using the email address on my Jayride confirmation. I then paid RCI for a bus ride to Rome Airport. When I attempted to get my $145 back from Jayride, I was informed that I had not officially cancelled according to their official cancellation policy (you have to Google their policy) even though I used all the contact information availed to me on their confirmation to make “changes” to my booking (I assumed cancellation was a change). I’ve come to understand that Jayride farms out ride share bookings out to incompetent companies like Transfer Service Rome. Evidently without much oversight as I unfortunately discovered during this experience.
Update: Jayride, who again farmed this misadventure out to Transfer Service Rome, contacted this so-called service ( I have copy of this email) and ask them why they did not forward my cancellation request to them in a timely manner. Jayride also ask did they want to refund my $145. In broken English, Transfer Service Rome rep replied that I insulted their operator, I was a liar and they did not want to refund my money. Jayride did not pursue this any further even though Transfer Service Rome did not address Jayride’s question about forwarding my cancellation request. I’m not a liar; there was no reason for me to insult anyone; and Transfer Service Rome pocketed their cut of $145 for doing absolutely nothing. And of course Jayride got their cut. So where is the incentive to do the right thing? The answer is there is none.
