Excellent car rental experience in Manila. The team made everything very easy for us, especially arriving from overseas. The car was ready on time, very clean and in great condition. Returning it was just as easy. Great service and reasonable rates. I would happily book with them again.
I booked a small economy car from these attempted scammers through a company called Carflexi, who's tagline is 'No Hidden Costs'. My fiancé and I only needed a small economy car so that we could drive from Manila to her family home in Guimba and maybe spend some time in Baguio while we were there as well.
I received a quote from Carflexi of 6900php, which I thought was quite reasonable for three days rental and I paid a 10% deposit. So we flew in from Cebu and landed mid afternoon and took a Grab to collect the car, safe in the knowledge that it was only going to cost me £25gbp per day plus any petrol that I used because, remember Carflexi's tagline here.
Now imagine my surprise when we turned up with a credit card, an international driving permit, my passport, my valid UK licence and a booking reservation on my phone that quite categorically said, 'Amount Payable at the Counter, 6,900 php' only to be told that the rental charge wasn't 6,900 pesos, but an eye watering 22,000 pesos. When my fiance asked what the extra was for she was told that it was a security deposit. A security deposit for what? I'd already paid for insurance on the car in case it got stolen or damaged. So let's call this yet another attempted scam shall we? Because I know how this one works. I take the car away full of the joys of the open road, and when I return it they suddenly find a slight scratch or worn tyres or some damage to the interior that I didn't even think to look for on collection, and bam, goodbye deposit and that affordable hire car has suddenly cost me £90gbp a day to rent.
We ended up taking another Grab to the bus station and catching the Cisco bus instead, and that attempted scam still cost me 1000 pesos for a grab and a 690 peso deposit. I don't know what it is with Filipinos but as soon as they see a westerner approaching you can see their eyes light up.
Don't use this company. You will get burned.
