Incredibly easy to subscribe and give them money, incredibly difficult to cancel that subscription. It cannot be done online, when I asked their online support why I got no response other than to phone the number. When I phone the number is busy. Horrible, cheap, sneaky tactic from what I thought was a reputable organisation.

Terrible experience in getting a free trial.

if your a pensioner who doesnt have a smart phone, and only uses the internet, its virtually impossible to cancel.

you have to use the app to wait for an advisor, or, phone them and wait like i hav for 2 hours.

I am appalled by the Times - and expected better. I am an overseas subscriber and it says on the Times website that the subscription can be cancelled by email. I sent the email to cancel more than a month before it was due. They said I had to call but the number they provided was wrong and didn’t work. It is also difficult because of the time difference. Looked up the correct number online - the first girl was snorting and sneezing on the line and kept putting me on hold. After 20 minutes on the phone she put me through to someone else. Still no confirmation that it has been cancelled. This is a nightmare! And I have now been charged ten pounds for a month’s subscription. DO NOT go near them!

You get tied into a contract you can only cancel 3 months before the renewal…by phone. I did this and they forgot to cancel it. I then had an unpaid invoice for over a year or two and they would not delete my GDPR data until I paid the invoice for a contract I had been told was cancelled. Despite the notes on the account highlighting the customer service rep tried to cancel and failed to do so (without telling me). There processes do not allow them to delete the account until you pay… over the phone.

The app is slow and dated hence I wanted to cancel almost instantly. It’s just a modern day legal scam. Much better outlets with modern apps and approaches out there. My data was essentially held random. I paid the invoice for an easy life and had my data deleted.

I can't believe TheTimes would act so fraudulently! Same story as everyone else here. Cancelled way before subscription (5/11/25) charged for subscription on the 1/12. They have all the control as it doesn't fall under a direct debit, you can't cancel any future payments with them! Called again today, to be lied to suggesting they had reimbursed me. Asked for a follow-up email of my cancellation and still waiting.... No doubt a further amount will be deducted on the 01/01. Worrying that only 2 5 stars provided for the whole of 2025.

In Australia. For 2 weeks now the iPad keeps locking-up and I have to shutdown and restart the iPad. What has caused this?
It seems to be a revamped software issue because it was ok until this new upgrade happened about the same time.
I have stopped using the Times and have switched to The Telegraph which gives me all the uk news. So, goodbye Times!

Unbelievable how such a long-standing institution has stooped to defrauding customers. As other reviews say, these people are thieves, and don't even do it with a smile. I have a LONG chat conversation transcript I'd love to post showing just how callous and absurd these people are. I have bank receipt showing payment, showed it to the rep, and they went from telling me I didn't pay at all (literally telling me over and over I never paid, then I sent the proof of payment), to then claiming I paid Google and not them (bank receipt CLEARLY shows it's paid to The Times). They're simply fraudsters, and I will be reporting this elsewhere as well. Do NOT do business with these people, not even for a basic subscription. Illegal business practices.

DO NOT under any circumstances get a £1 deal from The Times. Once you instantly sign up online its virtually impossible to cancel. There is no way to do it online and they make you call them. You wait for ages in a queue and then get cut off. Once you do get through they interrogate your reasoning. Even at the end of this painful process, they dont actually confirm the cancellation. Utterly disgraceful practice. I will never ever read or pick up The Times again. Journalism is in any case, abysmal.

Took a yearly subscription. Asked for it not to renew automatically. They said they couldn't do that but that I would be notified in advance when new payment due after the first year. Received no notification. Called one day after yearly subscription ended. They refused to cancel my subscription until I had paid the outstanding (by one day) new payment. Literally refused, and said they would continue to keep subscription active until I had settled.

I’d give a ZERO rating if it was possible. I phoned to cancel subscription, 5 days before renewal date. I was assured it was cancelled. Yet to my surprise £30 was taken from my account despite the fact that I was told by their customer service rep it was definitely cancelled. To add insult to injury a further £25 was taken from my account 2 days later. When I called to complain and demand a refund I was told there was nothing that could be done. When I pushed to speak to a manager I was then told she would escalate it to management..!! This after 45 minutes. Their behaviour is at best unprofessional and incompetent, at worst it could be viewed as fraudulent. Do not trust them ever again. I’m waiting for a reply more in hope than expectation.. Times your brand suffers from all of these shocking reviews.. Get your act together…

Totally unethical subscription service , don’t fall for the temptation of a discounted trial period . Full cost £30 imposed on the day of trial expiry without notification . Trying to cancel takes you over so many hurdles but persist and don’t accept any of the promised benefits & discounts offered just insist on cancelling. £30 totally wasted !

Disgraceful business practices from a British business; much like every other reviewer I signed up for a trial subscription online, and when it came time to cancel the Times makes it nigh impossible. This is not the way to breed customer loyalty, and should be illegal in the UK.

Times is a fraud newspaper, Don't ever get into their trap of free subscription for 3 months. They will never notify you and you cannot cancel it and they will keep your card details and deduct your payment after your free subscription period ends. Times cannot be trusted.

Cancel subscription and thieves still take money and refuse a refund. Previous months paid monthly but they then took 3 months the day after cancelling….,

Cancellations. The first guy hung up on me. He asked for email address and name, then after I gave that, he asked for customer number then hung up.

Second time I called, they said it's in the 14 day cooling-off period (I.e. I tried to cancel after 6 days), so if I cancel now, I'd lose the 3 months and 3 weeks of subscription remaining. I said fine, I'll call back in 8 days and leave you a one star review.

I am in the process of cancelling my suibscription after increasing subscription price hikes with little notice. You can subscribe to Times online but they require you to call them to cancel. I am so far 20 minutes into a cancellation phone call, having been transferring to a second department to action this. The Times deliberately makes it difficult to cancel your subscription so people eventually give up. It amounts to nothing short of dubious and unethical business practices. Stay away!

Very time consuming and inconvenient that you have to call to cancel this online subscription. Left on hold for 30 mins with awful music so they're trying to make it as difficult as possible to cancel. Really disappointed in a reputable company making this so difficult and I won't be purchasing the Sunday Times in print again either.

Lost £50 due to their awful trial period which they don’t notify you is ending. I paid for £1 for 4 months and have been charged £26 twice now due to their poor customer service contact methods so not being able to cancel this new subscription which they didn’t let me know was starting.

Utterly terrible. No response to online renewals, no response to emails. Phone calls don't connect. Online chat is the only way to get through. God knows where the operators are based, but they don't read messages properly and everything is ahuge hassle. Next year I'll give up and cancle if it's still this bad.

When I talked to the cancellation team they were very rude and said they were not interested in my feedback as I had read one article. Probably the rudest person I have spoken to in a customer service team ever.
