Great local gym
Great local gym. Staff always very friendly and they really know their stuff. The classes are great. Would highly recommend Dave, Maria and Jamie whose classes I’ve taken.

Signed up to the Gym in Newcastle…
Signed up to the Gym in Newcastle Gosforth. Went there and couldn’t get access. There were no staff there at all (on Monday afternoon). Eventually had to call the helpline, and was told there was a glitch in the system and I would have to pay the joining fee again, but wait 10 days for the refund on the first one. I didn’t trust this would work. And I don’t see why I have to waste my time for your error. Especially as I just wasted my time and money getting to the gym.

The Gym, Gosforth - Very Poor
Tried The Gym Gosforth, Newcastle branch (on an overpriced £9 day pass) and was extremely disappointed. The variety of equipment is so poor (e.g one squat rack & one lifting platform/powerlifting cage the only very tiny areas available for barbell work, not a single straight pull up bar in the gym, one ski erg… I could go on). Much of the equipment seems like it isn’t maintained at all with really rusted dumbbells, uneven flooring, and ageing machines. The Gym provide a ‘representative image’ online when you’re signing up - the Gosforth branch looks absolutely nothing like this. Considering the location, I’d expect this gym to be much better maintained, have higher quality equipment, and be setup to cater for a wider variety of workouts. Potentially the worst gym I’ve attempted to train in.

I had never been to a gym but they made me welcome and now I’m a regular. Staff are helpful friendly and knowledgable. Always clean equipment and plenty room. No one made to feel anything other than they belong because the staff there are all great

Poor equipment maintenance
Overall, I like the gym group. Good staff, solid equipment, classes, flexible opening time and not expensive. However, at my home gym there are consistently 4 to 5 machine stations out of action at any one time because there aren't enough carabiner clips. It really isn't the fault of customers, who would benefit from guidance. At around £2.99 a pair you should be able to remedy this for £10/15. With more regular and visible staff presence in these areas you should be able to encourage and educate customers to leave the clips in place. And for the last 2 days, 5 of the treadmills have the 'I'm injured' notes on them. So, 10 bits of kit out of action today, despite being closed for 2 days of planned maintenance last week. Along with cracked perspex, ragged handles and ropes (approximately £50 to replace), it all seems a bit shabby to me.

Great facilities
Great facilities and really clean gym. Everyone is friendly and approachable. The staff are super helpful. The classes are varied and the PT’s are very knowledgable too. Overall a brilliant gym.

Overall not.a bad gym
Overall not.a bad gym, could do with some slightly heavier dumbells and some more.power racks. Would like people to stop using phone and concentrate on there workouts more.

Great gym - highly recommended!
Been a member since it opened but only really used for the past couple of years.
I’ve used other commercial gyms as well as specialist gyms over the years in the region and The Gym group offers excellent value for money.
At times it can be busy but you can easily due what you need to do without much waiting time.
Staff are helpful when needed and mainly just let you get on with it if you’re confident to do so.
Good mix of machines/free weights/cardio. Newcastle East and Newcastle City gyms have some variations in handles/bars but I refer the layout in Gosforth.
Only recommendations would be considering adding dumbbells beyond 38kg.
Also the Bring a Friend invites don’t seem to work - had trouble every time a friend has received an invite and tried using the allocated PIN - more of an issue when no staff on site as friend cannot attend. Happened with a couple of other members so assume it is a wider issue rather than just an isolated one.

WIFI hopeless
Generally I like the gym; good opening hours, decent classes, good range of equipment. However they really do need to sort out their WIFI. It seems to be a 4G deadzone and the gym's WIFI is frankly hopeless.

Since signing up to the gym in January - have appreciated all the help, advice and support from the personal trainers in the classes e.g Dan, Jamie, Rai,Logan. First time I have remained consistent in going and it’s helped to finally aim for my fitness goals.

I go first thing 7am there's ALWAYS equipment left out. Getting a bit annoying now that it's left like sh*ttip

I enjoy the gym very much
I enjoy the gym very much, it’s clean along with excellent staff and trainers however there need to be more weight equipment such as leg press, hack press and higher weights e.g. 40kg, 50kg.

Circuits with Coach Dave is always a fun class. He mixes things up & challenges you. Some good stretches at the end too.
