The Instructor team at the Gym

The Instructor team at the Gym, Normanton Road, are the reason why I still attend. Friendly, helpful and caring are just a few of their traits to mention. Their classes are exceptional, where they actively advise and support the participants. In 30 years, of attending gyms, they win hands down!

money

absolutely loved this gym while going there, taking all my kit. working out on the machines and weights, the gym group pricing where of a normal range price as there wasn't any plans to go personalized, keeping it clan and option to get a personal trainer for al needs

Manager is a disgrace

This gym used to be good. Since this manager has been in charge it’s been a disgrace. He is rude to customers and makes the whole place feel uncomfortable. The gym is always a complete mess with weights all over the floor and the manager just leaves it that way. Disgraceful. After 5 years of membership I have no option but to cancel and go elsewhere. Tried calling the gym to express my concern and there is no physical way to contact a human being. So instead I will leave this review. I have already emailed them and had no reply whatsoever. If this is how you treat your long established members you will soon have no members. Terrible experience.

Made to feel uncomfortable by Managers approaches

Been going to this gym for years. Cancelled my membership and gone elsewhere. New manager is a bit of a perve with the young women, makes me and other women feel very uncomfortable in the gym. Wonder if he has a DBS.

Bad Manager

I attend the derby gym on Friday 10th March around 520pm to find my pin wasn’t working. The gym PT came to the door and told me that my pin had been suspended by the manager as I had been using chalk in the gym the night before and the new manager doesn’t like people using chalk in the gym. The PT told me I had to talk to the manager to get reinstated. However the manager had already gone home so would’t be available until Monday. The PT said the manager was only in the gym 9am-5pm. I explained that I work all day and can only attend the gym after 9pm so wouldn’t be able to see the manager in person. So the PT sent the manager a text message with my phone number so the manager could call me to discuss the issue. However the manager hasn’t bothered calling me and my pin is still suspended. I then went on the Gym's live chat on Monday 13th March and spoke to a representative who told me he would email the manager to ask him to contact me. However the manager still didn’t contact me! Tuesday I then took time out of my work to go to the gym to try to speak to the manager. I went down at around 230pm on 14th March. The managers office was closed and the manager was nowhere to be seen. I pressed the green button and waiting for 10mins and no one came to attend to me. I then emailed the complaints department at head office, however still no one has got back to me. So I have now been waiting nearly 2 weeks and my pin is still suspended and the manager hasn’t called me or contacted me in anyway.

I have been a member for 7 years and find it appalling that the gym would treat me in this way. I have been a loyal member for all these years and find the way the manager has treated me as unacceptable. Firstly I have always used chalk in the gym and can’t understand why it is an issue after 7 years of membership. The PT told me the reason the manager suspended my pin was because he was trying to “Stamp his authority” on the gym. This is terrible customer service and all it does it alienate your loyal customers.

All previous managers have been great but this new guy seems to be on a power trip. Since he took over as manager just this month the gym has got worse. The gym is dangerous with so many weights left as trip hazards on the floor etc. why is the manager picking on me for using chalk (which isn’t even mentioned in the membership contract or gym rules), yet he allows the gym to be in a constant state.

Also I am very upset that clearly the manager was discussing me and my details with the PT. This is clearly also a breach of GDPR.

My girlfriend and several of my work colleagues are also members of the gym and they have also commented on the new managers attitude. He appears to put the effort in to being friendly with the young female members but seems to not put the same customer service efforts into other members. As a result, all of us are cancelling our memberships and going elsewhere.

Terrible Gym Manager in Derby Gym

New Manager is a joke. This guy has just been given the managers role at the derby gym. The guy has no management skills whatsoever. Since he took over the gym is a complete mess. Weights all over the floors 24hrs a day. Machines broken. People walking around in ski masks covering their faces acting intimidating. People walking round with no shirts on. Two people at a time entering the pods etc and this has been done in front of the managers face and he does nothing. He sits in the office all day taking his wages and eating food whilst the gym area is a disaster. The guys got no customer service skills either. You need to get a manager in who is skilled in management. Giving someone the role just because they have worked as a personal trainer is not a sensible route. This gym was great when previous managers were in charge. I can only see the gym going downhill.

Not great

Came to derby for a few weeks with work, usually use the gym group Telford, the comparison between the two is crazy. Derby gym is not kept tidy, weights everywhere and not in correct places (Left by the users, need to get better gym etiquette) and equipment is minimal for the amount of users. Telford gym group 10x better. Not worth it, even for the price.

Fantastic

The first thing that hits you is the cleanliness just fantastic. Plenty areas for your personal space . Plenty equipment also skipping ropes rubber strength bands . The staff take pride in their appearance. Members put the weight back when finished. The cleaners are great. It is nice to see a professional managed gym.
