I had a very disappointing experience with this company. Their customer support team was not knowledgeable, and when I asked for updates on the progress of my account, they were unable to provide any meaningful information. At that point, I decided to cancel via chat.
To be fair, the contract does state that cancellations must be done via email. However, when I canceled through chat, their support agent never mentioned this requirement and instead led me to believe my account was successfully canceled. In my view, it was their responsibility to properly inform me rather than mislead me into thinking the cancellation was complete.
Months later, when protest season ended, they claimed they had no record of my cancellation and told me I should have canceled by email. By this time, I had already hired another agency, OwnWell, who I strongly recommend. OwnWell’s platform is much more user-friendly, their customer support is excellent, and they even waived my fee when there wasn’t a significant tax savings. That level of fairness and transparency really stood out.
In contrast, despite the circumstances, Tax Cutters still sent me an invoice for work I had canceled. Even after I explained the situation, making it clear this error stemmed from their poor communication, they refused to acknowledge any responsibility. The invoice was minimal (~$8), but the way they handled it was unacceptable. They were dismissive and rude during interactions and told me they would not cancel my contract until the following year unless I paid the invoice.
In short, while the contract technically required email cancellation, their customer support misled me, failed to communicate properly, and then punished me for their mistake. This was unprofessional and unhelpful. I cannot recommend this company. OwnWell, in my experience, is the far better choice.
