Made a mistake with my regular…

Made a mistake with my regular medication and had to pay to see a doc and get a prescription abroad. Asked for help with this from Switched On Insurance - no help given, it's up to me to find out how I get medication from a doc in this foreign country and they're not paying anything out as it's my own fault I didn't bring enough and then quoted terms and conditions. What a disappointment. It was an honest mistake (a la Rachel Reeves) and what's the point of travel insurance if not to help when you make a mistake?! Thanks for nothing. Perhaps I should have lied and said I'd lost my medication...
Following the reply from them: yes they reiterated that they CANNOT allow my claim. What a joke! AVOID!!

settled but timely

Absolutely Terrible Experience with Taurus Insurance



I’ve never written a review this bad before, but Taurus Insurance truly deserves it. My claim process was an absolute nightmare from start to finish.

First, they demanded a mountain of documents just to even consider approving my claim. I had to dig back 2.5 years just to find the original proof of purchase — which is ridiculous. Then they wanted proof of usage, which took me three weeks to get, involving multiple calls and emails with people who seemed completely clueless about what they were asking for.

After finally getting the claim approved, they told me to return the device for repair — even though it was something that clearly should’ve been replaced outright. They promised I’d get the repaired device back within 10 working days. I sent it the same day, using Royal Mail tracked next-day delivery.

Now it’s been 8 days, and when I called Taurus, they said they still haven’t received my device! That means I now have to chase Royal Mail about it — after already dealing with Vodafone, mobiles.co.uk, Lebara, Google, and now this nonsense.

And to top it all off, they happily took £100 excess, plus the ongoing £14 monthly premium, for what has been a truly awful service. These people are money-makers, not customer helpers. I would 100 times rather go to a local repair shop than ever deal with Taurus Insurance again.

Avoid them at all costs — terrible company, terrible service, terrible communication.

Avoid at all costs

Avoid this company at all costs. They are the insurer behind gadget policies from places including Switched On Insurance, and the Post Office.

This is a Gibraltar-based budget insurer who operate by rejecting as many claims as possible and being as difficult to deal with as possible, in the hopes you'll give up. Spend your money elsewhere.

I had an expensive MacBook Pro covered for Theft and Loss under their Ultimate policy. The MacBook was either lost or stolen and they've refused to honour the policy. They've been an absolute nightmare to deal with. Do not give this company your money. There is no point paying for an insurance policy that they won't honour.

Unacceptable Business Practices

I lost my phone on the 23rd of August and have still not received any resolution on this insurance.

Taurus have multiple ways to make this a sludge practice. They have multiple confusing webpages for making a claim, resuming a claim, or checking a status all being on different urls with different log in credentials.
If you put your password in wrong once you need to wait 30 minutes (totally unneccessary).
They ask for an inordinate amount of supporting documentation which is completely unnecessary.

They breached their own timescales for responses. Everything about this is to avoid paying anything. I am so disappointed that this company was used. I will be contacting the financial ombudsman about how this practice can be acceptable in todays world.

A COMPANY THAT TAKES PEOPLES DATA PROTECTION AND USES IT SCAM... – DO NOT TRUST TAURUS INSURANCE

This is one of the worst, most companies I’ve ever dealt with. I gave them EVERYTHING my passport, police report, personal bank statements, every bit of proof they demanded. After making me wait for over a month, they declined my claim using a made-up excuse that my device “did not have the manufacturer’s recommended security features activated.” WEAK VAUGUE EXCUSESS PACKAGED UP AS A PROFFESTIONAL COMPANY BUT INSIDE WORKNG LIKE A RING OF GANG.

Their own policy says claims are only rejected if that feature isn’t on “without good reason.” WITH OUT GOOD REASON THIS IS WHAT IT SAYS.. I GAVE them a good reason and full PERSONAL INFORMATION AND POLICE REPORT evidence. They completely ignored it.

This was biased, manipulative, and dishonest from start to finish.

They’ve passed my sensitive personal data around multiple departments, no control, no respect for privacy. I had to spend my own money registering my phone as lost and stolen, and they don’t even refund that.

Taurus Insurance are crooks hiding behind fine print, exploiting technicalities to avoid paying out. They are not fit to operate and should be investigated by the Financial Ombudsman and ICO. PLEASE CLOSE THEM DOWN

THIS insurance industry. AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE

Great Company

I went on holiday and my iPad accidentally fell and the screen cracked. This was on the 2nd day of my holiday. I love my iPad so was very upset that this had happened. I had gadget insurance with my travel insurance. Obviously so glad that I had. I uploaded all the required documentation to Taurus on their website. My iPad is 4 years old so was worried that I didn’t have the original proof of purchase but luckily I found it in my archived emails. Taurus approved my claim a couple days later. Said that I can go to the apple Genius Bar and get it repaired. I went to the Genius Bar but was told it was not in stock as it was an older model. They advised me to contact apple care. Apple care dealt with the replacement . Only thing here was I had to send my broken iPad to them and upon receipt and inspection they replaced it with another iPad ‘like for like’.I uploaded all the paperwork and now my claim is shortly due to be paid. I can’t fault Taurus. I contacted them a few times as my claim had to be processed online with apple and not with the Genius Bar. The staff were very helpful in regard to what documents I needed to send.

Warning: Taurus Insurance Gadget Cover is a Scam – and Tesco Should Know Better

I purchased Taurus gadget cover as an add-on to a Tesco backpackers insurance policy, expecting a solid safety net while travelling. What I got instead was a masterclass in how to dodge responsibility.
When I made a legitimate claim, Taurus selectively cherry-picked tiny details to deny coverage. They ignored the bulk of the evidence, twisting the small print to avoid paying a single penny. Every email from them felt like a pre-written script designed to shut me down, not help. Their staff were cold, dismissive and obstructive - more focused on finding loopholes than on resolving a genuine claim.

This isn’t just bad service. It’s a business model built to take premiums and then refuse payouts. Their so-called gadget insurance is worthless the moment you actually need it.

Tesco doesn’t get a free pass either. By partnering with Taurus, they’re knowingly steering customers toward a provider that fails to honour claims and treats policyholders with contempt. A brand as big as Tesco should vet their partners far more carefully and until they do, their travel insurance add-ons can’t be trusted.

Bottom line:
Taurus gadget cover is a scam.
Tesco is complicit by selling it.
Don’t waste your money or risk your trip with either.
Protect yourself and look elsewhere for genuine travel and gadget cover.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

After paying £150 in excess on 22/08/25 after being mugged on my way home after work I still have not recieved my new device. Here's how they have mishandled the whole affair.

After realising my address was incorrect I emailed back within THREE MINUTES to explain my mistake as I was still suffering from the trauma of being a victim of a violent mugging they asked for proof of address which I provided on the same day whilst also claiming that they had asked the phone distributor to pause the delivery whilst they confirmed my details, fine no problem.

Around 5 days had passed and I still hadn't had confirmation of my address, which I still haven't to this day (11/09/2025) so I chased them up to ask if there had been some progress. The response I received explained it had already been delivered (they said it would be put on hold) and was at a collection office near the old address. After checking Royal Mail with the tracking number they provided I could see it was actually at the old address, where they said they wouldn't send it.

The amount of back and fourth has been so ludicrous and painful with the responses being extremely slow and the questions they ask are ones that I have answered previously. For example, I stated straight away I do not have contact with anyone at the old address so it's impossible for me to collect it. Obviously if I knew the tennants/landlord I would've reached out and collected it myself. Almost 2 and a half weeks later they emailed me asking if I had tried to speak to anyone at the old address??? Seriously?!

Also, in most cases I've only received a response following a secondary follow up email.

They will not send a new device even though I paid £150 3 weeks ago and are refusing to accept any mistakes on their part. If I could give 0 stars I would as they are the most incompetent people I have ever dealt with.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Fraudulent cowboys at best

Fraudulent cowboys at best. Took dozens of emails to get them to approve the claim, had to send the same info about ten times. They do everything they can to avoid helping. Then on a £300 watch they offered me £70 based on a different watch they found on Amazon. Check any travel insurance and if it uses Taurus for gadget insurance avoid. They are disgusting scum

UPDATE FOLLOWING THEM LOGGING COMPLAINT.
they increased their low offer by a small amount. No where near value of watch.
Don’t be fooled by the fact they responded on here. AVOID AT SLL COSTS

Extremely Disappointed with Taurus Insurance – Avoid!

I had an extremely frustrating experience with Taurus Insurance. They sent me a faulty and damaged device, and when I returned it reporting the issue, they turned around and blamed me for the damage. They claimed the device couldn’t be restocked due to this so-called damage and refused to send a replacement.
To make matters worse, they held onto the device for over a week before informing me of this decision. Their “dispatch video” conveniently doesn’t show the bottom part of the phone – the exact area where the damage was identified. How is that acceptable proof?
This feels completely unfair and dishonest. It seems like they’re offloading faulty devices onto customers and then refusing to take responsibility when problems are reported. I’m left without a working phone and forced to take the blame for something I didn’t do.
Would strongly advise others to steer clear of Taurus Insurance. Untrustworthy and unprofessional.

Pretty much same as other disappointed…

Pretty much same as other disappointed customers on here - should have come to the reviews before taking policy out.

Slow and somewhat undermining lines of questioning at time of claim. Claim ongoing for few weeks now with no timeline to decline or fulfill.

Never again would I take policy with this company.

The screen on my macbook got damaged…

The screen on my macbook got damaged whilst travelling. The claim has been handled extremely slow - email replies from them are vague and asking really strange requests - for example if my permanent residence is in the UK - which is obvious. They just seem to be putting something off. It's starting to look like the ombudsman will have to assist me further. Coming up to a month with no solution in sight

Update - well over a month into the claim. Pointless back and fourth. This policy was with my travel insurance staysure who. For a broken macbook screen. They are asking for proof of flights, bank statements etc. I'm surprised a company can run like this in 2025

My positive experience

I never leave reviews but since I saw how many bad reviews this company had, I thought I’d share my positive experience. I lost my phone in Italy (iPhone 16 pro). I contacted the insurance company the day after. There were quite a few different documents they required (proof of purchase, loss report which you can complete online in 2 mins, travel documents, information from the provider etc) but i would say all were necessary. I contacted customer service to ask if they could give me any indication of how long my claim would take as I needed my phone as soon as I came home for work and was no longer hopeful that I would get this sorted promptly after reading reviews online.

However, the customer service representative got back to me within 24 hours and the claim was accepted within 48 (working) hours. It took a couple of days for the new phone to be posted but I received it a few days after that. All in, it took around 8 days including weekends to receive my new phone from submitting the claim.

They also sent me a brand new iPhone 16 pro rather than second hand. The colour wasn’t the same but I was prepared for this as they did say that they would send whatever stock they had and I was grateful for that as I cared more about getting it promptly.

Poor company don’t waste your money

All went well at the start until I had to make a claim and the response back to this was declined and for 2 reasons which I found laughable, reason one was the lock on the front door hasn’t been broken to gain access to the room and secondly it was because I left it on charge next to my bedside for when we went out in the night. When I contacted them and asked to make a complain, suprise they couldn’t transfer me through as they only except emails and not phone calls. For anyone going to buy insurance through these I wouldn’t bother they will happily take your money and have nothing in return if needed

Unethical practices

I filed my claim with Taurus on 11th July. Over a month later, I still have no settlement offer — only repeated assurances that my claim is “in final review” with no timeframe for resolution.

Despite providing every single piece of documentation requested, I am still being left in limbo. I formally requested an update on my complaint and asked for a Final Response Letter (FRL) so I could escalate the matter to the Financial Ombudsman as they themselves advised — but my email has been ignored. All I got back was (we have received your comments)

The lack of progress, transparency, and urgency is highly unprofessional and, in my opinion, unethical. Customers deserve clear timelines, honest communication, and fair treatment — not indefinite delays and ignored correspondence. They also do things completely against the policy wording you sign before you purchase the policy. They ask for things not even relevant or in the policy wording

100% rubbish company please people start complaining to ombudsman- this crooks need to be held accountable after my appeal they gave me the same reasoning what’s the point paying since 2021 when it finally happened, they didn’t pay out with the rubbish terms and conditions. Post office need to step in here and get rid of these Cowboys.
