Swoop helped us put together a terrific…

Swoop helped us put together a terrific itinerary and everything went off very smoothly. We loved the hotels they selected for us and the information on the website from planning for the trip to sites to visit on our free time was immensely helpful. There were a couple of small glitches that happened during the trip, none of which were the fault of Swoop, one being a late pickup at one of our hotels. The hotel staff called the after-hours Swoop line and they quickly helped resolve the problem.

No customized service and prices higher than rack rates

I’ve now tried using Swoop Patagonia twice over the past three years, and both experiences were disappointing.

In my initial inquiry each time, I was very specific in the comments section about my travel dates, the activities I wanted to do, and my overall budget range. Despite that, I received a generic, canned itinerary that had little to nothing to do with what I requested. It felt like they simply pulled keywords and sent one of their standard packages, followed by a push to schedule a two-hour phone call to “plan” the trip.

If you provide a detailed comments section on your website, why disregard what clients actually write? I’m happy to have a call, but a reasonable starting point would be a high-level itinerary that reflects the information provided. Instead, I was sent something almost entirely unrelated to my request.

When I pointed this out, the advisor (Danny) responded rudely and became snarky when I said that a call would be a waste of time unless he could provide an itinerary that at least met some of the criteria I had clearly outlined.

Do the basic groundwork before asking for hours of someone’s time to refine a trip.

I had a similar experience with their sister company, Swoop Antarctica. In my experience, they present a top-dollar itinerary by default and then push back if it doesn’t align with what you’re looking for.
Ultimately, I created my own AI-generated itinerary—drawing on my experience living in Chile—and was able to design exactly what I wanted in under 30 minutes.

In today’s digital world, I expect better. At a minimum, read and incorporate the information customers provide before requesting lengthy calls.

If I’m planning to spend $20,000 or more for a solo trip to South America, I expect a higher level of service. In the end, I did better planning it myself. Swoop appears to act primarily as a reseller for high-end resorts, and I found better pricing by booking directly. The “customized” itinerary they sent included only one day in one of the destinations I had actually asked to visit.

Overall, a frustrating and time-wasting experience.

Hello Dana,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I’m sorry that our response left you feeling frustrated — that’s never how we want anyone to feel after getting in touch with us.

I want to acknowledge that you were clear about your dates, interests and budget in your enquiry. We did read what you wrote, and Danny based his initial response on the information you shared with us. That said, written requirements rarely capture the finer points that shape a trip: pace, the level of comfort that feels right, or what really matters most to you once you’re there.

The outline we sent was meant as a flexible starting point, not a fixed package. Everything we propose is fully customisable. We use that first draft to open a conversation, then shape it properly around you once we’ve spoken.

We prefer to talk early in the process because it allows us to understand those nuances quickly and properly. A 20–30 minute conversation at the outset often saves hours of back-and-forth and leads to something far more thoughtful. It’s never about pushing for a long call — it’s about making sure we’re designing something that genuinely fits.

Danny reached out because he lives in Chile and has lived in the Atacama region himself. That first-hand knowledge is exactly why he wanted to speak with you directly. When someone is planning a significant trip — especially at the level you mentioned — being able to share lived experience, practical detail and honest perspective can make a real difference. His intention was to add value, not to waste your time.

I also want to be clear about pricing. Our rates are the same as booking directly - we don’t inflate them. Our role is to use our knowledge of Chile and Argentina and our relationships on the ground to shape the right fit and support you before and during your trip.

If any part of our tone came across as abrupt, I’m genuinely sorry. That wouldn’t reflect how we see our relationship with travellers. We respect the time, budget and trust people are considering when they reach out to us.

I’m glad you were able to design the trip you wanted, and I truly hope you have a wonderful time in Chile. It’s an extraordinary country, as you'll already know from living there, and there’s nowhere quite like the Atacama.

Wishing you a wonderful adventure,

Lauren

Swoop were great

Swoop were great. From a planning call, to helping with veggie food, and places to run, they were available and knowledgeable. Transfers were seamless, and when one local partner messed up, they were there to fix it.

Most memorable family trip

We had an awesome time in Patagonia. We went with our daughters and I wanted this trip to be memorable. We enjoyed every moment of the trip. Ecocamp in Torres del Paine was fantastic. All the logistics managed by swoop was seamless. We just enjoyed waking up every day and go for an adventure. I want to go again.
Thank you swoop for planning an awesome trip

Made Patagonia feel easy and stress-free

We booked a self-guided W Trek through Swoop and had an amazing experience from start to finish.

Everything was clear and well organized — from the platform and emails to the Zoom calls and pre-trip meeting. As first-time trekkers in Patagonia, we felt very prepared and confident going into the trip because all logistics were handled and explained clearly.

The planning allowed us to fully focus on the hike and enjoy the experience without worrying about transportation, accommodations, or meals. The trek itself exceeded our expectations and was truly unforgettable.

I would absolutely recommend Swoop to anyone planning a Patagonia trip, especially if you want a smooth, well-supported experience in such a remote and challenging destination.

Overall the trip was amazing

Overall the trip was amazing. The route planning and guided excursions were great - especially the individual guides themselves at each destination.
Our only disappointment was trying to contact Swoop during our trip and getting no response or return call.

The on the ground companies Swoop engaged with were absolutely fantastic in both Chile and Argentina. Everything ran according to plan and was well organised.

Each phase of the adventure-starting…

Each phase of the adventure-starting with the planning, followed by the travel through Patagonia and the follow-up has been thorough, helpful and responsive to helping us enjoy the trip. The trip was memorable stimulating and challenging.
Each day’s schedule provided us opportunities to view and experience unimaginable sights-gorgeous and different colors of the glaciers, sunrises and sunsets from the boat, colonies of penguins. Happy we didn’t cross patches with the Canadian Beavers.
The morning briefings were very helpful and provided the information to make good choices about the physical level of the different excursions. The presentations, though they varied in quality-were at a minimum informative and some were exciting and stimulation. The presentations and slides about the history, evolution and anthropology of the regional populations over time was perhaps my most favorite event of the entire trip.Is it possible for you to post the slides. Specifically appreciated hearing about hunting and gathering communities and about tribes like the The Selk-Naan that lived in the region and eventually became extinct.
My only comment about an activity that was not in great taste was the last night’s dinner conversation about tipping the staff. The staff was great. We had an opportunity to increase our amount to recognize the fine work of the staff-but a lengthy appeal for more money for the staff was not necessary.

Great Experience !

I waited until last minute to set this trip up and Swoop did a great job setting everything up for me except for the flights. They gave me great ideas and recommendations and everything went smoothly. Loved ECO Camp and the Hotel in Punta Arenas was great. The only disappointment I had in the whole trip was the penguin excursion getting cancelled do to the weather forecast. Everyone in Swoop was very nice and responsive to my questions and concerns. I Highly recommend them

“Experience fell short, though issue were ultimately addressed

Update:

After posting my original review, my complaint was escalated to senior management at Swoop Patagonia, who reviewed the situation and expeditiously authorized a partial refund. Once it reached that level, the issue was handled promptly and professionally, which I appreciate.

I’m glad the matter was resolved, and I appreciate the effort made to make things right in the end.

————

I booked a puma-tracking trip through Swoop Patagonia, and it turned out to be one of the most disappointing and misleading wildlife experiences I’ve had in 15+ years of travel.

1. Misrepresented itinerary
Swoop clearly advertised four full days of puma tracking (Oct 11–14). In reality, there were only three. The final day wasn’t a tracking day at all — it overlapped with a completely different program. I booked this trip because it promised four tracking days, and that simply wasn’t delivered.

2. Poor execution on the ground

No dedicated puma spotter, even though other groups at EcoCamp had one.

Guides lacked experience; every sighting we had was due to tips from other groups, not our own team.

Group split into two vehicles with no coordination, wasting time and reducing opportunities.

One guide deliberately held our vehicle back for over 10 minutes during an active sighting, causing us to miss the experience entirely.

For a premium wildlife trip, this level of disorganization is unacceptable.

3. Appalling follow-up and accountability
I filed a complaint immediately. Swoop told me the investigation would be completed within 21 days. Months later, I’m still being told, “We’re waiting to hear back from our partners.”
Meanwhile, a friend who took the same trip and reported the same issues to another operator received a partial refund within two weeks.

If Swoop’s partners are truly this unreachable, that’s alarming. If they’re simply delaying, that’s even worse.

Bottom line:
Swoop Patagonia delivered less than what was advertised, executed the trip poorly, and has failed to take responsibility. I cannot recommend them — there are operators who are far more transparent, competent, and accountable.

The comment from the operator below stating they emailed me with a full explanation is a LIE. More lies and lies and lies.

Hi Rita,

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience with us. I’m genuinely sorry that the trip did not live up to the standard you expected, and that our response took much longer than it should have.

I understand why you expected clear communication and transparency on a specialist wildlife trip, and we regret that parts of your experience - including how the itinerary unfolded and how the trip was delivered - fell short. I know how disappointing that must have been.

We have since written to you directly - on 17th December - with a full response, addressing the points you raised and explaining the outcome of our review. I also want to acknowledge that the delay in getting back to you was not acceptable - we’re taking steps to ensure this improves.

Your feedback has been incredibly valuable to us and has already helped shape changes to how this itinerary is described, and how post-trip concerns are handled. While we’re very sorry for the circumstances that led to this, we do truly appreciate you sharing your thoughts with us.

Lauren
