Incompetence that makes you contemplate existence.
My nan died. I rang them whilst executing the will and told them. I sent a death certificate. They posted the last bill in my name.
Rang once explained for the will we need a bill in her name, the account holder for the last 8 years.
Sent the bill in my name.
Rang twice...
Rang thrice...
...Rang 6 times.
Just received the bill in my name again.
Rang again and was told I couldn't deal with it because on their system the account is in my dead nans name and they need to speak to her.
Spoke to them on WhatsApp. Vikash said he has passed it on to the bereavement team so I can let them know my nan has passed.
She died in January, its the 21st of April, they have the death certificate. Southern water are single handed holding up hundreds of thousands in inheritance for tens of people. As they cant get a name on a letter right with 7 attempts.
DREADFUL company that treats customers abysmally.

They sent me an email saying our bill was over £1100 and I went into shock. But... when I logged into our account, it turns out this is our entire annual consumption and we were in CREDIT on our account and our monthly payments had REDUCED.... BUT... There was absolutely NO mention of this in the email.
What a horrible way of scare mongering customers. Imagine if I'd been a fragile elderly person; I'd have been distraught or even had a heart attack.
Southern Water: do you treat all your customers in this abysmal way or were you just singling us out???

Most incompetent company ever
Most incompetent company ever, i moved into my flat in November and I have been trying to register with southern water since November and it has not been possible. I have emailed them. I have called them, they've called me, they then promised a call back. They made me wait a month for a call back and they still have not sorted it. Luckily, I have everything proven via email. So if they try to accuse me of not paying them, I can show that they have not allowed me to register with them absolute shambles of a company.

If I could change provider I would! For a simple issue of rejected direct debit I've already contacted the online chat and then tried the WhatsApp service, awful. So frustratingly slow and useless, they are very polite and respectful but as if they knew nothing and as if they needed to get a cuppa tea in between answers, so utterly useless, repeat the same information again and again without trying to understand the actual problem. I tried calling and with the automated system all I could reach was a automated payment method. All I want is to talk with a human that is giving me all their attention, and not a chat service where they are talking to many customers at the same time. All this on top of being an overpriced polluting service!

I contacted Southern Water regarding my annual bill increase of 11%, which became a monthly increase of 31%...the answer from the phone person was incomprehensible. Essentially the billing process is disconnected from reality and is not at all transparent, they "manage" our bill for us. Then the simple question of how is the estimated usage (no water meter) calculated? No idea. What is the actual base calculation, oh we cannot tell you that. Ok when is the water meter going to be installed...oh there is a 5 year plan...it will be done by "block", so there is a plan? so you will have an estimated timeline - "we cannot tell you that"...so not even by post code? So there is no plan to which the company can held to account. Absolutely the worst company who are simply fleecing their customers, who have no alternative.
Extremely disappointed with Southern…
Extremely disappointed with Southern Water. My bill has increased significantly with no clear explanation and no improvement in service.
At a time when households are already under financial pressure, this feels completely unjustified and unfair. Water is a basic necessity, not a luxury, yet customers are being hit with excessive charges and little transparency.
This has seriously damaged my trust in the company. I expect far better communication and accountability. Very poor experience.

For goodness sake Ofwat, shut this company down... Water in this region is the most expensive in the UK and its CEO's remuneration package is obscene. I have endured a 65% bill increase and missed a bill payment deadline by 5 days over Easter due to overseas travel. Paid yesterday but a cold call harassment today (as payment not showing in their system) suggesting I let these idiots have a DD to my bank account......yeah right... you total sharks...the tapwater you supply in my house is so chlorinated it's vomit-inducing and is so hard it kills appliances very quickly....get out of my family's life....
The craziest Customer Service level
The customer service is an absolute joke! Called to make a payment and was sent an email to a very weird payment method through a link. I checked the name of that payment method and it is an online payment company based in Kuwait with 2 google reviews. Honestly, this is an absolute joke...

my single person discount wasn,t applied despite me sending my council tax bill proving that i get a single person discount on my council tax, they just removed it and issued me a bill for over £800 then when i sent my council tax bill for 2026/2027 they applied the discount,then because they generated a new bill they didn,t reinstate my monthly direct debit,they wanted two instalments of £270,so i had to ring them up to set up the direct debit again,they have caused me so much stress this company,i have only one wage coming in,this is daylight robbery what they charge for water.

very bad company to deal to, removed cause I forgot to confirm that I have disability for life!!! so my bill went £400 to £607!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I'm disable for life, why you sent me a letter? to see if a miracle happens???
I would give this company zero stars if…
I would give this company zero stars if I could. They're not satisfied with polluting our seas and rivers and killing so much wildlife. They almost double their charges and give us a non functioning website out of the 1990s. Every time I went on to pay my bill on their rubbish website it said no payment required yet they were bombarding me with texts and emails telling me to pay and all the different ways in which I could pay. I eventually managed to pay the bill one week before its due date but it still doesn't show on their website which is still requesting the full bill. Is there anything this rip off company can do properly apart from paying your managers and shareholders billions upon billions for absolute failure? You make me sick! Bloody sort your website out! A student could do it better than you lot. Grrrr!

Yo don't care what the customer wright's in the reviews you put the water up last year and spent thousands on new vans that just sit on drive ways doing nothing raw sewage running down the road in margate done nothing for 3 days then used water to flush it away you didn't do anything to find the problem now you put the water up again to get bigger houses and better holidays bet only a fraction will go to getting work done the rest will go in your pocket
Worst customer experience
Honestly I've got to say probably the worst customer experience I've had with any supplier, multiple phone calls needed to resolve the issue, staff ill equipped to help or resolve the issue, staff unable to issue an email somewhat unbelievable in this time, threatening letters sent to a vulnerable pensioner, I don't expect to get a response given the other reviews, all in all unbelievable but if southern water do feel like they want to review my customer reference number is 00 22 92 0 590

Robot person texter offered to put me through to 'an agent', and I thought, "Wonderful!".... And then there was a flurry of messages saying not available / call back / opening hours etc .. do NOT offer something if you can't do it. NOT happy. Only trying to send a death certificate as I need to change to me paying the bills (nearly two years and it still bites you). Point I am making is robot-person shouldn't make suggestions they can't uphold - tell robot the opening hours.

I called to find out why our bill had increased so dramatically. I was told it was due to me having a credit??? That is the wrong use of the word so confusing. Basically I am on metered water but they did not take enough in my dd calculations for a whole year so added £249 onto my bill??? This still did not make the amount correct. I checked we were on the essentials package. Again they assured me I was. I now have a copy of my bill and I am not. Someone was supposed to call me back. they did when i could not pick up the phone. I called back but you cant be put through to them? They will call you three times and if you are busy and cant pick up they wont call back after that?
