Mouldy Loaf. Contacted Soreen with no response
Background: I bought 6 packs of Soreen Lunchbox Loaves at Coop, and have been eating one loaf per day - I have had 7 banana flavoured, 5 original (malt), and 2 blueberry soft-baked bars by 7 July. What happened: On 7 July, I bit into the last loaf of one pack and found visible green mould covering the other half. Over the two weeks before this, I had also eaten loaves from two other packs without close inspection, since they were sealed and in-date and I don't always look closely at what I eat every day. Given that I felt unwell every single day last week, I strongly suspect those loaves may have been affected too. Symptoms: bloating, abdominal pain, and persistent night-time gas discomfort, starting approximately 1 week before 7 July. At the time I had no reason to suspect the product, so I did not connect these symptoms to my daily consumption until I found the mould on 7 July. The product's dark colour and strong malt flavour mean that mould is not necessarily detectable by look or taste. Critically, not detecting anything does not mean a loaf is actually safe to eat - this is, in my view, the biggest safety issue this incident has revealed. Realising I have likely eaten multiple contaminated loaves without knowing it is genuinely distressing.
What a disappointment
What a disappointment! I have liked this malt loaf for many years but have always found it difficult to cut although using a sharp knife. When I saw the new sliced loaf in Waitrose i thought it was the answer to my problems. I was wrong. There is a quote on the wrapper that says the slices tend to stick back together. I can't get them apart! Shan't be buying that again. Sorry.

Disgusting I loved malt loaf with butter on it now been changed for the worst and definitely will not buy again
Horrible
I always use to buy soreen malt loaf , but now it’s horrible it’s dry and less fruit I no longer buy it my dad had it for years when I was young and loved it so I’m looking at other supermarkets to see if they have similar
Mouldy loaf
Bought a sliced loaf which was in date by a few days. I opened it the day before the BBE and found mould which looked like it had been growing for at least several days if not longer. It knocked me sick at the sight of it. I contacted Soreen, who asked if I'fd be happy to send it back to them in the form. Received no response. 5 days later I contacted about the original form as I had kept the mouldy loaf as proof. I was emailed in an abrupt style saying the response was sent by letter and it was royal mail's fault the letter hadn't arrived. I've still not had the letter. Awful service! The least they could do is provide the means for a replacement with an apology.
What a joke
What a joke - we buy their products and whilst close to the end of the "best before" but not after - all of their loaves are mouldy directly after purchase. We contacted them after this disgusting find and they posted us a voucher that doesn't even cover the cost of our purchase.
Please go back to the real Original ingredients
The pack says "new recipe" , it is disgusting, dry and tasteless. I would love to know why they are allowed to call it "ORIGINAL " ! Soreen , could you please share with us the original ingredients?
Absolutely disgusting
Absolutely disgusting. Soreen loaf was tasteless, was like cutting and eating rubber - I just binned it.
Absolutely awful new packaging
Absolutely awful new packaging. The Soreen Loaf is perfect as before but the new packaging is a nightmare - hard plastic which is difficult to reseal and easily splits which then makes resealing totally impossible,
Mouldy lift bar in child’s lunch box!
Mouldy lift bar in child’s lunch box!
Cannot believe the lift bar was covered in blue / green mould!! Absolutely disappointed in Soreen.
I have attempted to contact them via their contact form online and it keeps redirecting and not submitted! After several attempts I’ve given up. Even their website seems to be outdated and unusable!
Reminiscing of younger days
Reminiscing of younger days, my wife decided to tickle our taste buds by buying a variety of Soreen Lift Bars.
All tasted of uncooked flour with synthetic chemical flavourings, reminiscent of raw cake mix!
With pride the company's sales patter implies the experience as a delicious squidgee tasty treat.
Think again before buying these!
BEWARE OF SERIOUS MOULD IN LUNCHBOX LOAVES
Be very aware of putting these in your children's lunchbox as I have repeatedly found them to be full of mould and soreen just ignores all communication pertaining to this.
Wish I could attach a photo
Very poor customer service
bought a part backed malt loaf really soft in middle uneatable, filled in a form on there web site was asked if i would send it back i said yes. nothing wrote to the CEO nothing, was NOT looking for anything back except to report the under cooked item .sent a bog standard CUSTOMER SERVICE LETTER UNSIGHNED with a voucher for a replacement product nothing about returning it as they said they would send me a return envelope sent another email to Samworth brothers but nothing
I bought a loaf of mouldy Soreen
I bought a loaf of Soreen, well inside its sell by date and decided to have a slice, opened it and to my disappointment it was covered in mould. We haven’t been having a heatwave here in Cumbria but even if we had I would expect it to be edible if inside the date.
Left a message and the offending photos of the mouldy loaf and guess what? No reply……nothing. So what does that say to you when they have a dedicated contact us page that they don’t reply to. Why should customers be out of pocket for a rancid item.
BOUGHT A SLICED SOREEN LOAF in date
BOUGHT A SLICED SOREEN LOAF in date , at sainsburys
unwrapped and immedietly noticed how hard it was and this just virtually went on into the centre .We threw the ends as they were a struggle to chew.
Wont be ever purchasing again.
This product has been changed for the worst.

Hi guys I'm a big soreen fan have been for years when they brought the soreen sliced loaf out it was a game changer for me it said on the packet to put them in the toaster witch I had not tried before as soon as the toaster popped I instantly was so exited that I put my hand in the toaster and was electrocuted and blown to the other side of the kitchen I'm sticking to the original malt loaf now just slice it yourself and add some butter be safe guys
Dry and difficult to chew
As with other reviewers recall this being moist and fruity.
Mine was dry and difficult to chew and swallow even with butter on.
? Saved money by reducing the fat content ??
Binned it and yet another taste from the past lost
Health and safety issue re horrible soap taste and Soreen won't even acknowledge repeated complaints.
I bought 2 malt loaves, both of which tasted horribly of some sort of chemical soap. One more so than the other. I made a complaint. I made another complaint re not even having had an acknowledgement of the first, let alone a reply. Still no-one replied. So not only is there a health and safety issue, but the company doesn't have either the courtesy or the integrity to even respond re the issue!
Soreen - Great customer Service
I had an issue with a Soreen product and filled in a complaint form on their website and I was sent a voucher to replace the item within a week. However, I felt my particular issue needed more scrutiny and so I decided to email the company. It did take a little while to get through to the correct department but once I did customer services were spectacular. They showed concern and compensated me well with Soreen products. In fact they were more generous than they needed to be. I love their products and the company clearly showed they care about their customers. Well done Soreen!
I remember this product from my…
I remember this product from my childhood. I saw this whilst online shopping and thought I would treat myself to a nostalgic taste. What a disappointment. I believe the outer packaging was tastier and more digestible. They have even rebranded the marketing to make a point of the chewiness. It was always a fruity, moist bake not a single fruit mouth of gloop. To those of us who are a certain age I beg you not to relive your childhood with this impersonator.
Very disappointing and slightly tummy gurgling!
