A Lifesaver for My Indoor Jungle!

I cannot recommend Smarty Plants enough! As someone with a notoriously "heavy hand" when it comes to watering, this kit has been an absolute game-changer.

Premium Quality: You can tell right out of the box that this isn't some cheap gimmick. Everything feels high-end, durable, and thoughtfully designed.

Brilliant Concept: The tech behind it is so intuitive. It has already saved several of my plants from certain "drowning" and continues to keep my watering regime in check.

Lovely Team: Beyond the product itself, the team behind Smarty Plants is wonderful. Their passion for plant care really shines through in their customer support and overall vibe.

If you’re a "helicopter plant parent" who tends to overwater, or if you just want to take the guesswork out of plant care, get this kit. Your plants will thank you!

I’ve been using the SmartyPlants sensor…

I’ve been using the SmartyPlants sensor for a while now, and the difference in my plants is honestly amazing. They look healthier, more vibrant, and I feel much more confident taking care of them. What really stands out as well is their customer support team; they’re super responsive, helpful, and always ready to assist. Overall, a great experience

Got these as a gift at Christmas and I…

Got these as a gift at Christmas and I absolutely love them! I also love their customer service they are so fast and efficient and actual solve any problems! I really love this company and I am saving up to buy more sensors!!! If you are a plant lover GET THEM!

Great simple product, light sensor is hit and miss

Simple, recyclable packaging with exactly what was purchased. Delivered on time and with ease. Easy to setup via the app and the product itself. My only issues are no charging cable and the light reader is a hit and miss sometimes. I have a glow light which sometimes doesnt pick up despite moving the sensor at different angles. Great app layout with some information to improve areas but with this great sunny weather , glowlight and the sensor saying its too dark i can only give this a 4 star.

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave this review - we're really glad the setup was smooth and that you noticed the packaging.

That's also part of the same thinking that sits behind the cable, it was a deliberate decision to not to include a charging cable. The sensor uses standard USB-C, and people usually have plenty of these at home. In our experience those little bundled cables almost always end up in a drawer or, worse, in landfill. Pairing that decision with recyclable, minimal packaging felt like the right way to do it, but I completely understand it can catch people off guard - we appreciate you flagging it.

On the glow light reading - you've spotted something that is worth explaining (feel free to skip the technical bit; the short version is the sensor is working as it should be, and that it's about to be made it even smarter). Like most plant sensors, we measure light in lux, which is essentially a measure of visible light weighted toward the green part of the spectrum. Plants, though, mostly use the red and blue wavelengths for photosynthesis (making food from light) - which is exactly why grow lights look the colour they do. So a strong grow light can genuinely look "dim" to a lux-based reading, even though your plant is getting plenty of usable light.

The good news is that there's a lot more going on inside the SmartyPlants monitor than lux alone. We measure additional wavelengths, and in the next few weeks we're rolling out a new metric that analyses light quality alongside light intensity - how much of the light reaching your plant is actually useful to it. No other houseplant sensor does this (we've got a patent pending on it), and it's going to be especially relevant for your setup with the glow light.

Honestly, our goal is that you never have to think about any of the above if you don't want to. There's a lot of science under the hood, but our job is to translate all of it into one simple answer: is my plant healthy, and if not, what do I do about it? We'll reach out when the new light-quality feature lands, we would love your take on it.

Great service

Sad to see such a negative review after our experience. We (wife and me) had difficulty pairing the sensor too. We got a reply the same day though. When we still had difficulty (my fault not theirs) I even got a call from the founder Ben (great guy). He took me through the process and made it super clear. He told me they're updating their process to make it even easier in future.

They are a relatively new company and super passionate about what they've built.

I was really impressed with the service we received and I'm excited for our monsterra to last a lot longer now.

Disappointed

This is an excellent idea and I bought three for my partners birthday.

We have spent an entire day trying to get them working. Support is non existent with no replies or acknowledgment via email. One device has eventually paired correctly, but the other two are not connecting at all and simply come up with an error saying contact support…… really helpful.

At the moment I can only recommend that people stay away from this product as it clearly doesn’t work.

Hi CP, thank you for leaving a review - and we're genuinely sorry the setup experience was so frustrating, especially as a birthday gift.

We did want to address the support point with full transparency: we replied to your email within 3.5 hours of receiving it, late on a Sunday afternoon. We're a small team and respond personally to each support ticket (we don't use AI to automatically reply). This means we can't always respond instantly, but we do always reply as quickly as we can.

That said, it's genuinely helpful to hear that not receiving an immediate acknowledgement added to the frustration. As a result of this, we have put an automated response in place so that anyone raising a support ticket for the first time will get an instant confirmation that we've received it and are on the case.

The issue you raised was resolved in <36 hours. We've reached out a couple of times since to confirm everything is still working well, though we haven't heard back from you on those.

We're really glad you love the idea, and we hope the sensors have been doing their thing since. If there's anything still outstanding, please do drop us a line - we're always here.
