We're a small, family-run business based in West Wales, recycling whelk shells from our family's seafood processing factory rather than sending them to landfill. We crush, clean and dry the shells into a sustainable, decorative product ideal for use in the garden and beyond. The shells are available in various bag sizes from 1Kg to 800Kg bulk bags. Great for; Mulching garden beds. Useful for drainage in plant pots. Perfect as a decorative top layer in containers or pathways. These are great!
Ordered the shells, a selection of seeds, and terracotta watering spikes.
I had never heard of irrigation spikes before, so thought I would give them a try instead of having to stretch the hose all the way to the other end of the garden.
I've been using them for the last 2 weeks now and honestly think they make a difference to my watering schedule.
The shells look lovely on top of my garden pots and seem to be keeping the slugs at bay from my dahlias.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I'm sorry to hear that one of your terracotta irrigation spikes has broken.
Although terracotta is naturally fragile, the spikes are designed to withstand normal use, so this certainly isn't the experience we want our customers to have. We haven't received any contact from you about this issue, and we're sorry we weren't given the opportunity to put things right before your review was posted.
Your order also included a Hori Hori knife, so we hope you've been pleased with the rest of your purchase. If you could get in touch with us at shop@shellonearth.co.uk, we'd be more than happy to arrange a replacement or refund for the broken spike. If you could please include a photo that would be very helpful.

This is actually the first time we've been made aware of the issue, so we're grateful you've brought it to our attention. I can see from our records that you purchased one pack of five irrigation spikes, and we'd be interested to know whether it was just one spike that broke or whether all five were affected.
If an item arrives faulty or breaks during normal use, we're always happy to offer a replacement or a refund. Unfortunately, as we hadn't been contacted before this review was posted, we weren't given the opportunity to put things right.

I got some ceramic spikes to keep my plants watered during the heatwave. They are fantastic quality and arrived really quickly! I had even emailed the day after I ordered to ask about when they'd come because I was a bit nervous about the heat, and the person who replied was lovely. Would definitely recommend this company. My plants are still alive and the spikes are working great!

Crushed whelk shells
The product is lovely and looks so pretty in my pots. It was delivered on time. As I opened the bag it smelt of the sea lovely I ordered another bag straight away.

Slugs hate it!
I'd heard of Shell on Earth but then forgot to look them up until it popped up on Facebook about them being at Chelsea. The biggest decision was what size to get as you don't know how far it will go. I went for 11kg. The product arrived really quickly. As a 73 year old woman I could lift it. It comes in a strong polythene bag. I decanted it into a jug and poured it into the tops of my summer bedding pots and around hosts. Not a single bite mark on any leaf. It's amazing. I'll be back for more but what I'd also like, Shell on Earth, is a storage container with brand name on as there's no closure on the bag. Buy it. You'll not regret it.
