Terrible service.

Unfortunately no option for Zero stars!
Bought a Peugeot 3008 automatic from this so called "dealership"last year, nothing but bother. And after two break downs now to be told the gearbox is knackered. Noises started a few weeks from point of sale. Passed about to the garage who they use, then to see Riverview had closed. Not a chance car had been fully checked over before sale!

Do not recommend this company to…

Do not recommend this company to anyone, bought a big car for a big family, was assured the car went under a full service and had an mot recently to get the car, no papers for the service and MOT due the month after we got the car, noticed a burning smell when we drove the car in the 1st week and tried to ring garage to see it was PERMANENTLY CLOSED. Took months for us to get round the finance company, complaints and engineer and payments being took for a car that was about to set on fire. Engineer came out and told us it looks like they tried to do a quick fix on the car and made it worse and said if we had kept driving it would have went up in flames with 3 children using the car daily for school.
And now for some reason the company is open again??? Should have stayed shut for selling unreliable cars.

Terrible service

I was asked when I bought my car in November 2023 to leave a review, I thought I'd leave it a little while, it was a large purchase and wanted to be sure I'd made the right decision.

Well, 11 months later I don't think I have. I've had no end of problems with the car since I got it.

The problems started within a week of purchase. I live in Devon and purchased the car and drove it home from Stockton-on-Tees, a nearly 400 mile journey home (probably more than that actually as I took a detour via Sheffield).

The first issue was an engine light appearing when driving to work, this was within 5 miles of home. I drove the car home in limp mode and contacted the garage for assistance. The car was covered with a "Gold" warranty from Autoprotect based in Essex. I was told it covered lots of different faults and just to drop it to a garage and the warranty company would cover it. Oh boy was I wrong. I contacted the warranty company and they advised to take it to Halfords Autocentre which I did. They cleared the fault but couldn't re-create the issue. I then spoke to the garage explaining that I wasn't happy that it had developed a fault so quickly, their response was less than helpful.

A couple of weeks later the exhaust started blowing. I took the car to Kwikfit and was quoted almost £600 for the repair. They said it had been "bodged up". Having just spent £6000 on the car I was a little miffed.

About 6 weeks later the next fault, the brake fluid was low. I called the AA out and they topped up the brake fluid. A few days later the same issue occurred. I contacted the warranty company (as figured the garage didn't care after making the sale) and was told that a rear brake calliper was leaking. To the credit of the warranty company they DID cover this but I was without the car for another week causing me to miss work.

Three weeks later, the engine fault came up again on the way to work. I called the AA and they diagnosed the fault immediately as a misfire due to a faulty coil. I called the warranty company and again they said "Take it to Halfords". I couldn't afford to be without the car AGAIN for another week so I ended up having to pay nearly £200 for a new coil and spark plugs.

6 months in another fault. This time with the timing. Called out the AA again and they managed to reset the timing, they said if it didn't resolve the issue then it would be an expensive repair (something to do with the cam shafts).

8 months after purchasing the car, a coolant leak. Took the car to Halfords, logged it with the warranty company and didn't hear a thing. After 4 days I picked the car up as the warranty company hadn't responded. During this time I've been ill so not able to use the car much, having to top up the coolant when I was able to use it. Called the warranty company to chase and they don't cover it because it's a coolant housing and not a mechanical part.

On top of this there's now a leak inside the car when it rains and water gets in soaking the interior, I don't even know where to start with that!

Suffice to say I'm very disappointed in the car. With the faults I won't get nearly what I paid for it, the MOT is coming up and I've still got to pay hundreds if not over a thousand in repairs. I'm very disappointed, to them it may not seem like much for a £6000 car but to me taking out a 5 year loan for a car I was hoping would at least last me until it the loan was paid off it's a huge amount to lose.

AVOID THIS BACKSTREET GARAGE

My Son Joe Fraser paid £3500 for this car from Riverview Cars in South Shields, £3000 of that was on finance with Blue Motor Finance....,After driving the vehicle for nearly 4 months doing an average of 1000 miles per month the car broke down and it was recovered to a garage of the dealers choice(a garage they actually own too ) they diagnosed the car and informed me that the Cylinder head gasket and the turbo had failed.....,The dealer stated that it was not covered by their warranty and they would not fix the car. It was then recovered again and sent back to me, the finance company sent out their mechanic to look at the vehicle and then decided that it was drivers error, how can it be my error when coolant and water levels were checked regularly by me and no indication via electrics on my vehicle showed that there was a problem, the finance company then wrote me a letter stating it was my fault???? even the mechanic stated that it could not be driver error so now I am left with a vehicle that will cost me at least £2000 to fix, this is nothing short of being a total disgrace and my solicitor is now looking into it, this finance company are a disgrace and when I was ringing them it could take up to 2 hours to get through to them, I urge you not to use this company as they do not look after the consumers rights. Riverview Cars have a history of selling bad cars if you look on Trustpilot so I would avoid buying from them and keep away from Blue Motor Finance....How does this garage consistently get away with it?

Avoid at all costs

Avoid at all costs. My partner bought a bmw from them. Right from the start there were issues with oil leaks and blue smoke from the tailpipe and steam from the bonnet. Contacted them and they asked us to bring it back in. I performed a cylinder head leak test and it failed. When we took it back the garage rang my partner and said there was nothing wrong with the head gasket and said the car is ready to collect. It was then instantly apparent the car was not right AGAIN. Very frustrated by this point as they keep fobbing you off and say bring it in and they will sort it. The car constantly steaming from the bonnet and blue smoke from the tailpipe. Once again we took it back and they came back with the radiator was leaking so fitting a new one for us (even though they said they done a coolant pressure test the first time it was in). Second time picking the car up I followed my partner through the Tyne tunnel. While sitting in the traffic the car was bellowing white smoke on tick over and when she went to pull away there was loads of blue smoke. We sent them the video I took and my partner said she just wanted her money back. The garage then said we can’t do that as they haven’t fixed the smoke out the tailpipe yet even though both times it want back was because of the smoke from the tailpipe. Also after we got the car back the second time we noticed the front bumper was massively miss aligned after they changed the radiator. One side of the bumper is almost touching the bonnet on one side with a huge gap on the other side. Then a couple of days later we went to pick our daughter up from camp and when we opened the boot to put her suitcase in the boot we found out they just stuffed the belly ban covered in oil in there. We then contacted them again in email to which they never apologised in any way and just simply said “any garage that is vat registered can claim the warranty” so basically go away you are not getting your money back. So please, please avoid this garage at all costs

Unfortunately there is no option for ZERO stars. Terrible customer service. Please carry out due diligence before purchasing from this company. Experienced similar issues to what have been raised on here. Please avoid at all costs

Shocking customer service, sold a car when I was in the process of finance. Viewed a car just before they shut took details for them to process finance, had to wait as they put the incorrect term in for the agreement, sorted out finance first thing in the morning, only to be told they sold it in the hour it took them to sort out my finance. All they could say was ‘well you didn’t put a holding deposit down’ sorry I thought you’d not sell it for 5 seconds whilst I was trying to buy it. Horrid company appalling customer service.

Shocking bullies

Shocking customer service that tried to blame us for mechanical and electrical issues.
Tried to make us get our own recovery, even though it broke down on the way home.. As per other reviews paperwork was missing that they advertise as being present.
We gave them a chance at repair only to have the car break again on way home.. this time they wouldn't let us reject it, claimed it was repaired (third time) only to have the brakes lock up.
They refuse to refund even though consumer rights allow you to reject.
They don't know what they are doing with mechanics and electrics and fixing up broken /accident damaged cars to sell as A1 condition full service history etc, which are lies. As per other reviews paper work was in the post lol .. the warranty isn't going to be worth the paperwork so don't let this falsely reassure you in to buying.
We had no to accept the car or go into legal dispute because they won't honour legal obligations.

Riverview Cars at 1a The Foundry, Commercial Road, South Shields, Tyne And Wear, NE33 5SE, is a dealership that I strongly advise everyone to stay away from. My family had a horrific experience with this place. They sold us a Renault Clio, which turned out to be nothing but trouble. They promised a pre-sale service and minor bodywork repairs, but these were nothing but empty words.

At the time of purchase, they assured us that a major service had been carried out and the service documentation would be provided. However, on pickup, they conveniently mentioned that the service document was with their garage in Cleadon, which, as it turns out, is owned by the same family. This raised immediate red flags.

Within weeks of buying the car, the timing chain slipped, causing extensive damage confirmed by the AA. We gave the dealership a chance to make it right, having the vehicle towed to Britannia Garage in Cleadon. However, they shockingly claimed that the repair was not covered under warranty. We pointed out that they were legally obligated under the Consumer Rights Act to fix the issue within 6 months of the sale, but they refused to honour their responsibility.

To make matters worse, they tried to backtrack by claiming the service book was inside the vehicle all along. We're currently pursuing this case through Trading Standards.

My daughter's first experience with buying a car has been nothing short of a nightmare. She's been swindled out of £6,000+, and her trust in car dealerships is shattered. We're now doing our part to ensure that no one else falls victim to these unscrupulous individuals and their interconnected businesses. Steer clear of Riverview Cars and their associated establishments at all costs. Your hard-earned money and peace of mind are at risk here.

un trustworthy, liar,

This garage or more over the owner ERIK bought a satnav screen from us upon delivery wanted to return it within 1 hour apparently it was not working, his wife also called up as said they had bought one else where because it was delayed getting there. it was delivered in the time frame stated on the original order on 1st choice. they returned the part we refunded the day after returning yet he has the neve to lie and try and cheap people out of there hard earned money, see other reviews below not the first time he has done this and wont be the last i would not recommended this business to anyone

Don't buy a car from these cowboys, car has faults and won't pay to repair. Had car less than a month, warranty is not worth the paper it's written on. They won't pay for repairs. Stay clear from this garage

Keep away from this garage

Keep away from this garage. They sell unroadworthy cars. My son bought a Vauxhall Astra from this garage and we have had it independently proven that, when the timing belt was changed by Riverview cars they failed to tighten the main bolt to the correct torque, which meant that within time the main and auxiliary cogs came loose. When we challenged them they tried to deny they changed the timing belt, even though it was on their sales advert on Autotrader. They sold my son a warranty that was different to that advertised on their website plus the paperwork came 5 months after the sale of the car. They advertised it would be a platinum warranty where everything was covered, however he received a gold warranty which did not cover the investigation work and only covered £500 worth of repairs. When we challenged them they tried to hide the Platinum element of the warranty on their website. Check what they are offering as it's probably not what is advertised on their website. We have taken this to South Tyneside Trading Standards who have put them on their watch list, so please if you have any problems with your car let them know. My son could have been seriously injured with the shoddy work they did on the timing belt. As other people have said in their reviews, do your homework and avoid this garage.

Avoid these at all cost

Avoid these at all cost. Bought a car 7 month ago. Had nothing but bother with them. Car supposedly comes with a warranty but Riverview don't supply paperwork for said warranty. Had to pull out for repairs to car. Would never buy from again. Do your homework and search Internet. Lots about the company if you look.

vauxhall astra purchase SH12 LCP

purchased a 2012 vauxhall astra from Riverview Cars on 12/1/23 reg SH12 LCP. It was delivered to me on a transporter by a third party arranged by Riverview Cars. the vehicle arrived with numerous issues : heavy scratches (advised there were none - i have written and video evidence of this) , squeaky clutch - again video evidence. heavy rust / corrosion on the underside of the car - again i specifically asked if there was any rust / corrosion and i was told nothing. Most distressing of all is that the vehicle apparently passed an mot and had a service within the last two months but the rear near side brake pad has been found to be disintegrated when i had to take the car to a local garage to investigate a rubbing noise under breaking. Riverview cars informed me that prior to delivery the vehicle underwent a 30 mile road test - and no issues were reported. the only explanation they had to this was that the brake pad must of disintegrated between collection and delivery to myself .. utter nonsense. supposedly serviced but only 81% oil life remaining after circa 50 miles from the service. i have had numerous emails / texts relating to this issue and all the garage have offered is £100 for my trouble. the car is not safe to drive and i have a detailed report from my local garage which highlights all of the issues. Riverview cars did offer to take the car back for a refund but i was told i would have to cover both the original cost for delivery £300 and be responsible for the return of the car. its completely unacceptable and not as described. as of today (20/01/23) i was asked by Riverview Cars for the local garage (Hingley Autos) to send them a report as they told me the £135 + VAT quoted for the replacement of brake pads was excessive. Erik said that brake pads are £8 and with fitting would be £65 from them. needless to say this has been a horrible experience and i would happily share my experience with any interested parties. my email is richj6362 @ gmail.com. i can provide details of my experience with River View Cars. i have now commenced legal proceedings with this matter.
