Difficult warranty policies for hot water system
If a technician attends for a warranty claim and determines there is no product fault or the issue is caused by something not covered (like user error or improper installation), they have a service charge payable but they can't tell whether the fault is covered under warranty until the technician arrives.
If they arrive and you don't answer the door they charge a service fee for a wasted trip for no-show but they don't give short time period of when the technician may arrive.
They also need to take a pre-authorisation fee and hold details of a credit or debit card on hold before they agree to send a plumber, meaning you have to give them details of your bank card.
Rheem website quoted "To confirm your booking for chargeable and partial warranty repairs we need to take a pre-authorisation fee. This temporary transaction places funds from your credit card or debit card on hold, we do not process the pre-authorisation until job completion. On job completion we will charge the full amount for works up to $700 for residential applications or $1400 for commercial applications. We will contact you before charging your card if charges exceed those amounts."
